If it was (AO) this could cull the amount of kids playing (And SharkCard sales probably), It would also allow Rockstar to crank GTA to 11. They could bring back decapitations and "violent weapons" (Chainsaw, Flamethrower, Katana)

They could also add Sex scenes, Drug use/Dealing, and Gambling.

isn't it pretty much rated 18+ everywhere anyway? regardless AO would not stop kids playing it ie me circa 2004 getting my mum to buy GTA SA at grainger games.

no one cares about age ratings except soccer moms

But with an AO rating you can get away with a lot more in the game

Won't happen. Would mean less sales.

It's not likely but it's not impossible either, They done it with Manhunt 2. But that was back when they sold Cocaine spoon's and mirror's as GTA Merch

Isn’t what we have enough though? I mean I just don’t see the point of being edgy for the sake of being edgy to get a higher rating.

Sex scenes already exist with the prostitute encounters being more detailed in the HD era. Anymore graphic than that and it would just be weird. I can just go to Porn Hub or something.

Drug dealing/Drug use once again already exists. GTA V let us smoke weed, but I don’t think it needs to be anymore than that. I don’t think many people would enjoy seeing the protagonists shoot needles up their arms for whatever reason.

Violence could be ramped up, but it’d have to be done so not to be too much or cheesy. In truth I’d rather see the level of visceral violence come back from RDR and MP3.

An AO rating would effectively kill the games sales. There's a reason publishers avoid that rating like a plague, Rockstar didn't want Manhunt 2 or GTA SA to be rated AO.

I see where you're coming from, GTA already pushes it's rating to the limit, And i kinda agree about the Sex scenes, TBOGT done it well though imo.

Drug Dealing could be more enhanced, It would be fun to start out as a street dealer dealing to Peds, Then work your way up the ladder to a kingpin, As for drug use, Nothing serious like shooting up H, But maybe

stuff you would find in a nightclub, Coke, Pills, Weed

Violence/Gore should be realistic, Limbs should fly in an Explosion/High speed car crash, But yeah an AO GTA to me would be a Mature and Immersive game not for children, kinda like IV on roids

I dunno man, I feel like Rockstar wanted to do it but as you said it would kill sales, Hell it would sell alright due to popularity, It's just AO games are not allowed to be sold from most retailers,

And they're not allowed on console either

I'd love an AO rating so the characters can engage in uncensored f*cking(where they actually take their clothes off), but it won't happen.

I vote 'yes' because i think fewer kids should be playing GTA.

I would like to see more comic violence, like you say, but the HD graphics make that less attractive. - Could it be used as an opportunity to explore darker themes in the story? TLAD has been the peak of darkness so far, but we're playing a crime game and it feels like a Disney movie. Sometimes it seems like there are no consequences to being a criminal; just a lot of fun and hijinks.

That will just add a lot more hassle in the distribution, though I'm definitely in for gores and weapons such as flamethrower and chainsaw.

As for 'kids playing' matter, it's already rated for 18+. As long as it's accessible, they will get it no matter the rating, they will adapt and rise their tolerance to violent and explicit articles. It will be the same old GTA all over again, except with higher rating.

Yes but I don't mind kids playing it as we played it when we were all young, the parent should know clear as day that video games aren't "toddler things" just like movies. The rating is there for a reason.

The Problem is M rated games now don't feel like an M rated game anymore and its getting more and more common. It's all "cartoony" everything feels like a joke.

I have a feeling that RDR2 will posses a cartoony vibe to it as I detected it in the second trailer, I hope I will be wrong but I am sick of it.

Yep. Definitely. There wouldn't really be a major difference. If they can stil get their hands on it their still going to play it no matter what rating change it gets.

Yeah but What if we pulled a false flag attack and Memed stronger rating laws into reality? /s kinda

[EDIT] What a coincidence, A false flag attack happens and trump is pushing for tighter game laws

Settle down lol

R rating and M are the same.

AO rating doesn't really exist lol Plus, it wouldn't matter . The difference between AO and M is nothing.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entertainment_Software_Rating_Board#Ratings - In the ratings system used in North America (+Mexico) M is 17+, and AO is 18+. A lot of retailers won't touch AO rated games, and certain console manufacturers don't allow it either. http://www.ign.com/articles/2007/06/22/the-big-ao I'm sure there's also huge restrictions on marketing when you've got an AO rating. - The "damage to sales" claim is very true, as is the "less kids playing," since it would be harder to get ahold of. It could theoretically destroy sales, but i wonder if Rockstar couldn't keep it afloat with the help of the internet and popularity of the series, or even pull of bigger sales due to the scandal a popular AO game would create. San Andreas was rated AO during the hot coffee controversy, and Manhunt 2 was also originally. Rockstar is the most realistic company to get away with a high-selling AO rated game.

The difference between AO and M is nothing.

The difference is the degree of extremity. You could say that M and AO are ratings made to point out the same qualities of violence, sex and immorality, but AO games are going to have more of those qualities.

The question is should GTA go down the path of increasing the violence, sexual content and other mature themes of GTA to warrant an AO rating?

Pretty sure most Ao games are banned anyway. I've only seen 1 Ao game on the shelf at some mom and pop shop in my lifetime.

Making a game AO isn't going to stop kids from playing it. GTA III is MA 15+, and I still played it all that time ago before I was even 10.

a little Off Topic, but i don't understand why GTA can't ramp up its violence while avoiding the dreaded AO rating.

While i go around los santos headshooting people like this

I can do much worse in the Commonwealth of Fallout

and while the general setting in Fallout is a fantasy world, and killing gouls and mutants isn't a big deal, you can still blow innocent people's limbs and eat their flesh in an almost normal-looking place like a farm or bar... this isn't really a light and fantasy subject.

But fallout isn't AO, as far as i know.

So why GTA would risk an AO with more violence?

If AO could allow the inclusion of more realistic violence then i'm down for it. It will never happen though because it would probably reduce the sales.

R* doesn't seem to want to take the approach. Few reasons why the katana or the chinsaw never came back from the 3D era gta's. They want to keep the gore at a mid-level. That started around IV. I guess R* just doesn't want to pump up the gore in HD-era gta's :/

Sad but true. I wish they would though since the criminal world is not something nice to see and what is shown in GTA is not even close to the stuff that happens in real life.

Won't happen because of the sales and because this is the generation; everything is more or less censored, it seem everything is made for the child..eurrh I mean grown up people with a childish mind.

Make me want to puke all this censor everywhere.

I agree with you OP and I voted "yes".

The Rockstar Gamer 108

Yes. Many kids get spoiled by playing these games. Like we saw "Hot Coffee" in SA.

And the kids may use to visit strip clubs in-game, which might "addict" them or expose them further to p*rnography.

Secondly, many kids learn and want to be badass by hurting others mentally or physically from these game stuff.

Thirdly, GTAs show the victory of the Evil over Goodness. Kids are kids. They may curve their mind in these and think that being a bad and currupt man is their LIFE.

The future of this world depends on further generations. It's up to us how we guide and show them their right way.

Because they done it before

And apparently they were testing it out in the beta stages of V

Fallout is a great series as well, Pretty f*cked up though, Did you know you could kill children and become a porn actor in the old games? in 1 or 2 i think
