The Right Tool for the Right Job

I can't tell you how many times I've been engaged with another player in a friendly PvP shootout, only to have them suddenly RPG me, when to me, using an RPG was a totally unnecessary amount of force to use.

Another instance is when a player who has been brutalized brings out a Rhino Tank to exact vengeance on his would-be brutalizer, going Off Radar and obliterating anyone in his/her path. A little overpowering for the task, I'd say.

Then, last night during a Survival at Maze Bank, another player was using a Minigun on the first few waves, dominating. But, when he finally ran out of ammo, he died within seconds during the later waves, until he finally quit.

So, I'm wondering, when you're playing, how do you decide which weapons are the right ones for certain jobs? And in contrast, why don't you use other weapons, instead? Do you follow some kind of logic in this? Is there a code of personal ethics going on? Or is it just "whatever works, works?"

For me, I have a select few weapons I use for specific situations:

Robbing a convenience store: Heavy Revolver
Shooting down police helicopters: Minigun
Destroying air freight cargo: Oppressor (so I can swoop in and grab it)
Close combat PvP: Auto shotty
Distance sniping: Explosive round sniper rifle with thermal (because it's awesome!)
Shooting out tires: Mini SMG
Blowing up renegade Rhino Tanks: Ruffian covered in stickies.
Assaulting NPCs with coffee cups: Pool cue
Dive bombing a Car Meet: Alpha Z-1

What about yourself? Any personal preferences?
(Apologies if this topic has been covered. My search did not yield the results I was looking for. Cheers!) :)

For when you just want someone dead but don't really care who or when, or have some random asshole paparazzi in a mememobile chasing you, there is one weapon which will always fit the bill:

aW4cNVv.png

BEEPBEEPBEEP BOOM

If the situation doesn't fit using a proximity mine, change the situation so it does (i.e. goad people into chasing after you into easily-booby-trapped alleys).

For added taste, season as desired by placing on unattended personal vehicles.

Blowing up renegade Rhino Tanks: npc car off the map with stickies

Assaulting NPCs with coffee cups: insurgent

Dive bombing a Car Meet: haven't seen a car meet in a pub lobby yet but i'd probably use a duster

Robbing a convenience store: .50 pistol.

Shooting down police helicopters: Minigun.

Destroying air freight cargo: I don't destroy cargo.

Close combat PvP: Auto shotty, although if they start suiciding I'll break the rpg and stickies out.

Distance sniping: Explosive round sniper rifle with thermal helmet + advanced scope.

Shooting out tires: AP pistol.

Blowing up renegade Rhino Tanks: Insurgent covered in stickies.

Assaulting NPCs with coffee cups: Knuckle duster.

Dive bombing a Car Meet: Hydra, for maximum hate.

Anyone in a jet or wall breach: Explosive sniper, thermal helmet + advanced scope.

Professional Amateur

Knocking over a servo ('Straya, mate): Standard pistol

Rampaging the rozzers: Heavy Revolver+tail rotor= scrap metal

Destroying airfreight cargo: I don't destroy it, but I'll swoop in with the Molotok if I'm feeling evil and want to steal a crate

Close quarters PvP: Heavy Revolver or Assault Shotgun

Distance sniping: Standard sniper rifle, explosive rounds if I find a hardcore Just Dance marksman shuffler

Shooting out tires: AP Pistol or SMG Mk.II

Achtung, Panzer: Sticky bombs und ein Phantom Custom

Assaulting NPCs to tackle the Bean Machine regime: Pipe Wrench

Dive bombing a car meet: I don't find car meets, but if I found one and really wanted to piss people off, I'd use a rigged Ultralight.

Feisty flyboy: Pyro, P-45 Nokota or V-65 Molotok

I'm ignorant af, if it was up for me I'd use the MG MKII always. However:

Robbing a convenience store: Combat MG MKII
Shooting down police helicopters: Minigun
Destroying air freight cargo: Hydra
Close combat PvP: Combat MG MKII
Distance sniping: Heavy Sniper MKII
Shooting out tires: Combat MG MKII
Blowing up renegade Rhino Tanks: idk, never done
Assaulting NPCs with coffee cups: I don't get it, but I'd pick bare hands
Dive bombing a Car Meet: idk, never done

Drive-by shooting: bike (Dinka Akuma most of the times) + compact grenade launcher or sticky bombs

Heavy revolver for everything because if I can't look cool while doing it it's not worth doing.

Im not so creative in GTA O PvP, so im using only 2 weapons: Assault Rifle MK2 and Heavy Sniper MK2 (previous was Special Carbine and Heavy Sniper).
In PvE i also use Heavy Pistol. But not Minigun, in case i don't even own it.

Robbing a convenience store: AP Pistol(only pistol I keep in my wheel).

Shooting down police helicopters: Homing Rocket Launcher OR Combat MG with FMJ rounds.

Destroying air freight cargo: Meh, too much effort for little payout.

Close combat PvP: Sweeper Shotgun.

Distance sniping: Explosive round sniper rifle with advanced scope (if I need thermal, I use the thermal vision in my combat helmet).

Shooting out tires: AP Pistol OR Sweeper Shotgun(on a motor bike)

Blowing up renegade Rhino Tanks: any NPC car filled with sticky bombs while Off-Radar...Or any aircraft with missiles also work.

Assaulting NPCs with coffee cups: good old fisticuffs.

Dive bombing a Car Meet: As a car guy, that's absolutely disgusting.

You always make the most interesting topics, I could go on for hours but let's keep this simple.

For combat against players: special carbine, auto shotgun, heavy revolver.

For combat against NPCs: special and normal carbine, auto shotgun, and combat MG ( burst fire, cause motherf*ckers won't die)

The rest, I really don't plan for. It all depends on how close the enemy is, their health bar, and the range of the weapon. In survivals and in general, my load out is a carbine rifle, Gusenburg sweeper, auto shotgun, and a heavy pistol.

Explosives? Heh, get good.

Robbing a convenience store: handgun or shotgun,
Shooting down police helicopters: RPG or MG/that AR that looks similiar to bullpup, forgot its name, trying to kill the pilot,
Destroying air freight cargo: I would never, but if I had... homing missile?,
Close combat PvP: Assault Shotgun,
Distance sniping: Heavy Sniper Rifle. Marksman Rifle is for wusses,
Shooting out tires: anything automatic, really, mostly AP pistol,
Blowing up renegade Rhino Tanks: never had to, but RPG or 'nade launcher,
Assaulting NPCs with coffee cups: fists or baseball bat.
Dive bombing a Car Meet: dunno.

Drive-by shooting: AP pistol, but I really wish other handguns were effective too. Sawnoff shotgun/grenade launcher when on bike.

Jet griefers: Insurgent with a friend.

I already have the minigun but it feels too OP for most cases. I guess I'll use it if in a pinch or if I really want to f*ck up an annoying player. I wish revolver and .50 pistol were more useful... maybe Explosive Rounds for revolver mk 2?

As for jets, one was hunting me and my friend once. She drove under the highway and I saw Hydra going vertical and starting to lower itself under the street above us. I told my friend to let me out. When she drove off, I picked up an RPG and shot the bastard in the face just when he lowered himself to our level.

That was one MC associate payoff I really earned.

If an opponent is hiding, going into cover, consistently camping a corner/hill (prairie dogging as I like to call it), bombs away. If the opponent wants a gun fight, step out into the streets and have gun fight. I actually feel explosives are always in play, but the corner popping prairie dogs are very annoying and deserve a homing launcher into the ground at their corner.

Robbing a convenience store: Auto Shotgun
Shooting down police helicopters: RPG
Destroying air freight cargo: Pyro
Close combat PvP: RPG / Minigun / Proxy Mines
Distance sniping: Explosive round sniper rifle with thermal (because I don't want to take any chances and awesomeness)
Shooting out tires: Shoot the tires? Who does that? Blow up the car is more like it
Blowing up renegade Rhino Tanks: Rocket APC

Assaulting NPCs with coffee cups: Michete / Crowbar
Dive bombing a Car Meet: P-996 Lazer

Regardless of the items I use being OP. It gets the job done. No fuss no mess. Just DEAD. DEAD. DEAD.

Robbing a convenience store: RPG.
Shooting down police helicopters: RPG.
Destroying air freight cargo: RPG.
Close combat PvP: RPG.
Distance sniping: RPG. Jk. Heavy Sniper MK II / Advanced Scope / Normal Rounds.
Shooting out tires: Heavy Sniper MK II.
Blowing up renegade Rhino Tanks: Pedestrian car filled with sticky bombs while in Ghost Organization.

Assaulting NPCs with coffee cups: RPG.
Dive bombing a Car Meet: Who said that I have to dive bomb them? Even though I would surely use the P-996 Lazer. I'd rather get invited first and pretend to be friendly and then just RPG every car. LOL.

Gta is not a game of balance, much less balance of power, in gta you just come with whatever kills the thing you are dealing with, it's much like rock paper scissors, you have to come with the next best thing that overpowers the thing you are dealing with.

Example: session filled with rocket bikes?, then i launch ruiner 2000 vip mission and i see them comming down like flies.

Hydra, lazer?, sniper explosive ammo.

APC, tank, insurgent?, hydra, lazer, or savage cannons. (Apc could be dealt with semi auto sniper, if you are very lucky and it's comming into you while you are on foot) (insurgent same as apc but with miniguns too).

And so on..

For ground pvp, in this game it sucks, it's waay too much randomized, bullets going wherever they want to go.. usually best thing in the game is mid distance semi auto sniper, close distance heavy mg mk2 or a carbine to the head which insta kills.

No need for RPG unless it's behind cover, same for grenades or c4.

If you are the one being attacked while on foot, and they are comming in any kind of car except the kuruma?, then the minigun of course.

Rock, paper, scissors.

Robbing a convenience store: AP.

Shooting down police helicopters: Close range? Carbine to the pilot. Long range? Minigun

Destroying air freight cargo: I don't do that.

Close combat PvP: Auto shotty

Distance sniping: Explosive round sniper rifle with thermal Shooting out tires: Haven't popped some tires since Vice City.

Blowing up renegade Rhino Tanks: OTR Ruiner 2000.

Assaulting NPCs with coffee cups: Baseball bat.

Dive bombing a Car Meet: I don't do that.

Attacking NPCs guarding Special Cargo: Carbine Rifle.

Attacking NPCs guarding I\E Vehicles: SMG, for its lighter & gentle touch.

Attacking Little Seoul Gangsters: Brickade in reverse, Smoke grenades & an AP.

I suppose I'll actually answer the question:

Robbing a convenience store: Special Carbine
Shooting down police helicopters: Not worth it, don't bother
Destroying air freight cargo: LF-22 Starling
Close combat PvP: No, I die.
Distance sniping: Explosive Sniper (like a bitch)
Shooting out tires: Vigilante's Machine Gun
Blowing up renegade Rhino Tanks: Suicide Sticky Bomb
Assaulting NPCs with coffee cups: Heavy Revolver
Dive bombing a Car Meet: That's mean, bro

Am I alone in thinking that hardly any enemy in GTA Online is worth the cost of HL missiles and sticky bombs?

I usually go with the MKII MG with regular rounds, that way the cost of the other players death will be equivalent to the value of his life.

Explosive sniper rounds though.. I'm glad there's a cap on them before you need to refill, if that bastard held 9999 rounds it would probably ruin me.

I almost never use the RPG because I kill myself with it more often than not.

I pretty much stick to rifles and grenades.

If I cannot finish the job with my carbine rifle, that means I am not close enough to my victim's corpse to ensure they see me curb stomping it into the afterlife.

Unacceptable on all accounts, you must have done something egregious enough to upset me in what I am calling my "mid-life crisis" stage of GTAO and so with that noted; retribution is in order.

In all seriousness though that is my goto tool for many and most situations, if I have to be bothered sniping these days the thermal heavy for a few kills followed by the the marksman to really rub it in suits. I also cannot deny scurrying off to my MOC in order to switch my magazine to explosive rounds in order to dispatch a pesky jet or multi-rocket wielding APC, etc.

Sorry for not following protocol...

Dive bombing a Car Meet: Alpha Z-1

The car meet host in me is saddened about this category. But the car host in me can give pointers on pissing off car meet people without firing a single bullet.

Park near other peoples car so the door scrapes when being opened. Drink beer and eat snacks around the cars when they're parked for group pictures so the bottles and wrappers show up in pictures. Drive slightly slower than the group but stay in the middle of the pack so there's two separated groups. Make the host repeat himself when he's giving instructions. Have a conversation with someone in your house while your mic is on.

I feel horrible for giving you guys these pointers. Great thread as always, fw3. Not gonna answer each question as I typically use the Special Carbine for most things, my favorite weapon.
