I use AA mostly. When i get killed i get killed. No regrets it happens. Might curse when i die lol but that;s part of the game. Die and carry on having fun. :D Tried using other aim modes it didn't work out well for me lol. But that's ok. :)

This isn't going to help anyone but I found a cool trick if your R1/L1 (RB/LB) buttons are broken.

I don't know why but every 2-3 years I go through controllers from fingering it too much having strong fingers. The LB button is always the first one to go, shortly followed by the RB. The one I currently have sometimes has the right trigger get stuck a bit so I sometimes start driving slowly. The previous controller was worst as I had no RB/LB, they fell out and I could see inside the controller. Those buttons are the weapon wheel and cover and no matter what configuration I picked it would sacrifice something else. I was stuck with having no weapons and no cover. The workaround was that I configured it so that when in first person the left trigger would bring up my weapon wheel so any time I wanted a weapon or change a weapon I'd go in first person, swap weapon and back out to third person to aim and shoot. It was a whole thing. It made fights impossible and confusing but I managed. The only thing I couldn't do properly was fly a plane as I couldn't use the rudders which meant landing on the Sandy Shores airstrip took a few tries to line up. Here's hoping someone uses my tip if they got no shoulder buttons.

Glad to see you found a control scheme that makes you enjoy the game in a new light. That's pretty cool. :)

Nice to see how many other appreciate aiming on their own. I play Free Aim on PC with a PS4 controller. Took me 3 years to switch to Standard FPS2 and about an hour to get used to it because it's so much better than the default. Now I make sure all my buddies with a controller at least try a different controller layout as soon as I find out they use one.

what is your attitude during gunplay?

A: Defensive & protective of friends, I don't chase trouble though.

Do you take being killed personal or let it roll off you like nothing?

A: Nothing personal, we all have weapons.

Do you shot talk players or treat people with respect?

A: Mommy says never talk to strangers and eat with my mouth closed.

I'm PC player since forever, anything else than pure total free aim doesn't exist in my mental universe. Keyboard mouse. Period.

I guess the thread was more about how peoples on consoles play GTA.

I've decided to return to pure freeaim. Hopefully I can hone my skills to the point where even "Free aim assist" players will have a very hard time fighting me. Wish everyone luck regardless of your aim preferences.

People are still using Auto-Aim? It's 2017 and people still can't be bothered to aim lol.

I have a lot of friends who prefer Auto over Free. Generally, it's due the steep learning curve if you're not aware of FPS2 controls. Claw method with standard would make my hands ache.

I hate these free-aim topics. They always turn into free-aim tryhards criticizing those who use assisted aim.

I use assisted aim because I'm not really a PvP douche. PvE is my forte and for that assisted aim is NEEDED because the AI is insanely f*cking accurate.

Uh no you dont need AA for the AI. Anyway this thread is for FA, since you said you hate these topics....why are you even here, bringing up your need for handicap mode? lol

You literally just proved my point. Nice job, jackass.

I am kind of a PvP douche, lol. But I also do my fair share of PvE, and agree for the same reason.

Also though, the lack of auto aim changes the balance of certain vehicles. It'll be a whole lot harder to shoot someone out of an APC, etc.

Keyboard and mouse for everything including jets and cars. It's tempting to get a controller for drifting purposes.

As for tryharding / criticizing - PvP in GTA is pure garbage regardless of the aiming.

I gave free aim a try, learned "the head spot" but i stopped due to the increase of lag switchers, explosive spammers and people who take the game way too seriously not that you don't get that in AA but for me anyways FA was so much worse. I will still venture into FA though every now and then.

I use standard FPS2 controls for both first person and second.

I do not take getting killed personally but lord help you if you shut down the clothing store I'm at when I am in the middle of making an outfit. Then I turn into that terminator cop from T2 and I don't stop coming at you ti'll you leave the session.

Actually this thread isn't just about free aim. I don't get why people who use FA feel need to insult people who don't. Its those types of attitudes that keep me out of FA lobbies for the most part. Way too serious about it.

I can attest to the try-hards in FA lobbies trying A LOT harder. Just makes it more fun to kill them though, little safety helmet kiddies trying to pretend that GTAO is a ranked match in Siege -___-

Auto Aim shouldn't have the word Aim in it at all.

Free Aim should just be called Aim.

I have been playing this game for 4 years now I could care less about pvp or death matches.

Maybe I'll snipe a couple people or use the exploding rounds to take down a plane but my fun is derived elsewhere.

If I end up in some shoot out cool good shooting it was fun if you're good maybe I will invite you to some Heists and make some money.

Standard control setup.

Can someone tell me, as a PC player, the difference between FA (free-aim?), AA (assisted aim?) and the according lobbies?

Free-Aim: I guess thats just like i played every FPS-Game on the PC like i always did.

Assisted Aim: "Lock" the crosshair on the target so without further action from me, i keep aiming at the CoM of the target while it moves, but i can adjust as i like and e.g. move up and go for a headshot.

That's how i thought at least.

But what about the different lobbies? Is this a console thing only? Can the aim-type be switched in the options and i only get into lobbies with that aimtype available?

Never really got that difference or why this is seen as a dogmatic decision.

Easy to say you prefer free-aim when using a mouse. Controllers are just an unnecessary difficulty for free aiming. If I was on pc I'd use free-aim too as I did with previous GTA's.

It's on all platforms. Choosing FA or AA will put you into FA or AA lobby respectively, you can't play AA against FA players... Oh wait, you can. It's called Free Aim - Assisted.

On PC, Keyboard and Mouse are always Free Aim, so to switch aim lobbies you need to reconfigure aim preferance in Options - Gamepad - Aim Pref.

Edit: What I meant was that Keyboard and Mouse users can't use Assisted Aim, even in an Assisted Aim lobby. That's a disadvantage, so they better switch to Free Aim.

RnG, which I hate the name, is how you competitive auto aim, anyway. Theres definitly skill involved. FA in GTA, RPG/Sniper are FA.

In my experience, FA is all about driving around in an insurgent or bike pretending like the best players are all in FA. Almost all good players can switch back and forth. The jet cannon explodes in both lobby types.
