It depends on what you want to do. Id say nightshark if i had to choose, because of the explosive resistance and no map icon.

Nightshark has become my daily driver in freemode.. it's pretty fast and rams well. It is resistent to explosives so it's my favorite against the Oppressor.

Tampa is kinda useless imo...the missiles don't lock on. The mini gun turret is powerful but makes the car hard to drive when in use. I think of the dozen or so times I took it out it mostly ended with me blowing myself up.

Depends on what you want it for.

Offense? Tampa is stocked but you'll be dead from an Oppressor before you even realize it's there. Nightshark has sh*t pea shooters that are only good for headshots on Players and NPCs that are driving vehicles, some weird function you should notice when you are on someones ass the reticule for the guns will sorta aim at the head in the car. There are way better vehicles than both of them.

Defense and Survivability? Nightshark all the way, can survive tons of explosives.

Driving/Handling? Nightshark is AWD and fast, handles like it's on rails. Tampa is a Muscle Car, don't need to say much more than that.

Both.

Both fun, both useful.

Tampa for PvE (heists etc), Nightshark for public defending/attacking noobs.

Nether if you go after good players, as you'll get hurt.

Nightshark all the way but even so it's use is limited to getting one side of LS to another with oppressors around. For PvP it sucks monkey balls.

Tampa is too vulnerable and hard to use to be of use in PvP.

Well it depends what you want to do. Do you want to got defensive or offensive?

If you want something that is well protected so you drive around in freemode without getting blown to sh*t, get a nightshark.

If you want something that can dish out damage like crazy and thats useable for PvP and PvE get a tampa.

Despite the map icon the mines put the Insurgent Custom over the Nightshark for me, both have the same level of protection. Tampa is fun in missions. But also get the

mortars, because you cannot use mines in contact missions.

Pick the Tampa if you like periodically paying $20K in insurance when a car explodes too close to it and eats up the money you would have earned from a contact mission

Pick the Nightshark if you want to get from A to B and be pretty much safe from explosives.

Or... pick the Insurgent Custom if you want to be able to leave proximity mines everywhere in free mode and guarantee every person who explodes while trying to LS Customs wants you dead while keeping yourself safe from your own mines.

Tampa is useless except in missions/heists.

Nightshark is useful vs explosives. Explosives from NPC and from people...

Nightshark, if you know how to avoid facing your enemy (bullet protection from front is bad), is a life saver in freeroam.

I would probably say tampa, but to be honest they are different types of vehicle and there are better alternatives for both of them.

Alternatives for the tamper - Ruiner 2000, The Batmobile.

Alts for Nightshark - Either Insurgent

tampa is more fun in freeroam rampages. i only use the dual machine guns tho, all other options are useless imo

Keep in mind that the Weaponized Tampa is going to cost you considerably to kit out. The stock version that's delivered is garbage. The proper lootb...err research will be needed before the car is worth anything. With the initial cost and/or research time out of the way, it is probably my favorite vehicle out of the Gunrunning update. It might be a muscle car, but it is still one of the better handling muscle cars. I believe it is all wheel drive. The frame is ridged when fully armored, and it will punch through squad cars pretty easily.

Now that the Savage can take a rocket I would say that the Weaponized Tampa replaces it as the glass cannon, but I think a more accurate label would be a glass swiss army knife of cannons. Its versatility is amazing and should not be understated. The dual miniguns will turn even lightly armored vehicles into cheese. Sticky wielders in fast cars suffer detonation from bullet spray as soon as they stick their hand out of the window. Following the car is unwise as it has two methods to deal with pursuers and comboing mines and mortars can quickly put down explosive resistant vehicles. The missiles may not lock on, but they make an excellent forward facing backup weapon.

Survivability in the Tampa is going to be mostly dependent on your driving skill, aim assist preferences, and your ability to judge rock/paper/scissors against other vehicles. People playing a ground war downtown? Someone set a bounty on you? Take it around the block for laughs. Oppressors, APCs, and air vehicles heading in your general direction? Leave it in the garage. Doubly so if you play assisted aim sessions.

The Night Shark on the other hand requires no additional research to fully upgrade. Buy it and take it into the MOC to armor up and customize and you're done. It will outrun, out climb, and out maneuver an Insurgent. It punches like an Insurgent easily plowing through roadblocks and heavier cars. Bullet resistant glass will give you light protection in auto aim sessions (as long as someone isn't using penetrating rounds). It should be noted that the window armor plating is purely cosmetic on the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle, though it will stop rounds fired at the front and back that aren't fired straight through the slots. The Night Shark's explosive resistance is ridiculous. You can playfully drive through mines and taunt Hydras and Oppressors all day.

I do think that the Weaponized Tampa would win in a standoff between the two with nowhere to run. Sweeping the dual miniguns in the general direction of the Night Shark driver will kill them quickly. This is a rare occasion though and actually even silly to consider.

Between the two I recommend getting the Night Shark. It's a fraction of the cost of a fully kitted out Weaponized Tampa, and a fantastic armored people mover in a session filled with jet griefers. Only consider the Tampa if you truly have the disposable income, or if it's on a deep sale. As others have said the Night Shark also has no custom map icon and it can be stealthily driven around without attracting much attention. If you already have an Insurgent Pickup Custom it makes the decision more complicated, especially if you have mines unlocked and equipped. The Night Shark's pea shooters might net you a kill on a knocked down NPC or player, but the Insurgent's mines are a far more useful weapon.

Uh... and thanks for reading my book.

What??

Its a great car for PvP too. Everything you point the upgraded minigun at turns into swiss cheese in seconds. Had an intense fight with a fully manned insurgent pickup the other day. They were griefing some lowlevels so I swooped in, aimed my gun in the general direction of the windows and shreded everyone inside the insurgent into little pieces.

The insurgent custom like all insurgents before it is still the absolute boss. Map icons are a benefit in cases like this because there isn't much use coming near an insurgent is there. Between throwing stickies and the proxy mines you are going to have a bad day.

I agree about its gorgeous firepower. It's "spot, click, destroy, proceed". Much like old days' Rhino.

But couple of well shot explosive rounds, or APC, or anything more agile, and you are not Swiss, but burnt cheese :D

That's what I meant : in heists or missions, no human opponent so you are limitless.

But vs players, its firepower is severly limited by its damage resistance.

Well first they have to hit me. :D

The best you can do is to keep moving so they do not get a clear shot.

Tampa mini guns have excellent range, good for taking out people beyond the auto aim lock and avoiding incoming explosives.

I can attest to the Weaponized Tampa being pretty lethal in pvp, even on console. The aiming is pretty squirrelly, but manageable if you're used to playing free aim. It's similar to aiming with a half trigger pull and shooting from the hip.
