Using timers for making money?

Do you use timers for optimizing your money grind routine? I use a timer app, that i use with female assistant voice i took out of the game as alarm for selling cars, weapons and coke aswell as total playing time.

I'm asking though if there isn't some kind of Android or Apple app for GTAO already, it sure would be popular.

The way your doing things makes gta sound like a job more than a game. I just hop on, maybe do some jobs or just screw around with some friends depending on my mood.

I always use a timer app on my phone. First thing I do when I get online is sell a Vigilante, write down the time and date on a legal pad (to keep track of a 30 hr day for selling cars), then start a 31 min timer and make a check mark.

I use WatchMe. It's a nifty free program with customizable timers that you can make play different sound files (not doing ads), but it saves me time, so i can actually do something else in my free time than just play.

Lonely-Martin

I got a notepad for car tunes, paints and wheels etc. And what's in which garage... Too many, lol.

I've never bought into the $/ph methods. I love the knowledgebases that CaliMeatWagon and friends create, and I'd always recommend Jimbatron's 'Lone Wolf' guide to any new player too. From there, I do the things I enjoy and know if I do need info it's here. Otherwise, I like to explore as best as and take my time/losses building my business stats by spending as little cash as possible. Time is never the issue as I'm fortunate in that I can through my personal circumstances, though, I'd gladly change that, but such is life, anyway...

I've been teaching my son the good bits, but also explaining and helping him explore all the lesser played aspects these days, and the stuff R* don't push, contact missions, trade discount missions, Lamar's (I love these!) and so on... All the while the little bits like him being sensible with his bank, at least knowing the long term of just blasting cash... He's still got over $2m since I did his CMM with Rafae, Pedinhuh and another chap who's name eludes me...

I just like to ping about, cash isn't the priority, though I ain't daft, lol (looking at the heist 0% chancers out there, I ain't free, lol), so I seek out whatever takes the mood really... Always have since the start...

The issue newer players have is they're simply compounded by the things that longer term players, in places, played to death along the way... Again, heists come to mind... The difference between a player that started in 2013 and when heists came, if you started upon heists arrival, you weren't really that far behind... $100k got you in... These days, we're talking millions... And that stupid research adding hours, or more millions too...

It's no wonder players have to AFK sh*t, or keep to a schedule... I don't blame anyone that does, just I do feel it's just not ideal... Get's too intense for my liking...

To each their own though, and I always loved GTA for it's diversity in playstyles, though the recent over-push of PvP and ease of it all is too much for my tastes... I like the choice... There's much in life I am more specific with, Like my cars, but that's true of a lot of racing games. Just I like games of old... Plod at my pace, it'll come...

Hence my bitterness at the research. I just don't wanna do it, nor pay to cut time either. But feel compelled to play 'against the grain' a bit here.

I've used timers in the past for the coke and meth business to get a one vehicle sell mission, for selling sandkings and to know when the bunker is ready to sell. It all became too much of a grind...

So I've shutdown my biker businesses and I've set my spawn location to the bunker, so when I start playing I know when the bunker will be ready to sell product. I still sell sandkings, but now just around every hour or so.

And for I/E, if I source a car and the export says I need to wait, I just source another car or do a vip work mission to kill the time.

I didn't need a timer until they made contact mission payouts, time based. If they didn't want players to use timers, they shouldn't have made it take such a long time to make money.

Back on old gen when Contact Missions were neutered, I'd set a 15 minute timer every time I started Rooftop Rumble.

But now I've adapted a "go with the flow and work at your own pace" type of thing.

Not once. I just log on and do what takes my fancy...whether that's selling when the coke lockup or bunker is at the right amount or if I have some high end cars, do VIP jobs in between. I don't like to regiment my game style to that extent that I will do it to a timer. I tend to do that IRL with my work, not with games in my down time.

ui ui ui! i've never thought of that sparkly alvarez! i find it interesting (no judging clutching touching) how others play the game. i don't plan my gaming sessions at all. if i feel like doing some funstunning selling missions alone, i just appear offline. i hop online if i want to play with other mothers and wait for invite and join my flippy friends, regardless what jobs. if there aren't any invites, i just go on call for races or deathmatches and sometimes a flippy floppy match of tennis hihihi. if it happens that i land in a empty session, i just do some stinky fish crates work and deliver one car or two.

the only time i've used a timer was for the crunchy heist elite challenges. but after we completed them, we got rid of the timer and the microphones as well... it was in our guts (or in my fluffy belly), if the timing was good or bad.

Nope, I never used one since my system did not require one.

Sell car, headhunter, source car, hostile takeover, repeat. My character is also semi retired now (aka. no more grinding since i have no garage and hangar space left), so i probably wont use one any time soon.

I don't really try to optimize money making down to the minute anymore.

I made enough money in the drought between I/E and GR that for my buying habits coupled with the lack of garage space I have left I don't need to make that much money anymore.

I do 5 or 6 I/E steals and sales solo then head to the Bunker, it's almost time, give or take a few mins, to do a 210k Bunker sale.

I always used a 4 minute count down on my phone back when I was a mission grinder in the post timed mission days since 4 minutes was the optimum pay out.

31 minute timers to sell glitched X80s.

Though I can't sell them this week because I have a personal 30% discount. Thanks R*. XD

I use my cheap phone clock and my brain. Just over an hour to grind 200k solo on a good day with Sightseer, Trash Talk and Headhunter.

That was the only grind I enjoyed. Mixed with stealing Sandkings and MC sell runs in Blaine County. You don't need a timer because the cool down timers on the VIP missions do it for you.

I have a timer app that I use for various things (laundry, cooking, etc.) that I have a set of GTA timers preprogrammed.

Sell bunker: 2:48

Resupply bunker: 2:15

Export (I/E): 20

Sell a vehicle to LSC: 48

And others.

Lets me do other things while passively making money in game. I can actively play for about 30-45 minutes every 2.5 hours and make decent money while doing weekend chores

Only for the Bunker. I swing by* to see my progress, guesstimate how long it would take & I set my alarm accordingly.

*Although I own the living quarters upgrade for my Bunker, I rather spawn at my Yacht near the NOOSE HQ & enjoy the drive to the Bunker.

I think the idea of using a timer is a good one providing that you don't follow it religiously.

For example: the 48 minute timer goes off to let you know it's time to sell a street car, and you're in freemode anyway and not too far from a mod-shop, so go for it.

But leaving a mission or quitting a playlist because you've got to comply with a money-making schedule is bordering on lunacy, and not the point of using a timer. The purpose of a timer is to give you a money-making 'option' so that you don't waste your time needlessly running around the map. Let's just get that into perspective.

"Dude, you gonna help with the finale?"
"Sorry, my timer went off and I gotta go sell a car, grab a crate and sell some coke"

No. Timers seem anti-fun to me. Buuuuuut, whatever floats your boat I guess. People play for many different reasons.

It really depends on how you make money but I found that VIP timers are a great way to gauge your hourly routine. It all boils down to doing things quickly. I usually stick to my Hydra when doing Headhunter while selling/sourcing I/E cars. There's a small 2-3 minute window that comes up from time to time but I use it as a quick recess to get the blood flowing and get some snacks or use the bathroom. Following a timer to the letter is, in my experience, only fun for the first few times you use it. I'd click "sell car" and the timer would restart to 48 minutes and "VIP Work" so then the VIP timer would restart. I can't recall the website but it showed all the time cooldowns, basically.

In the end I started slipping and forgetting to click something, too busy watching Netflix on the laptop or chatting with a friend. I then eased back into just doing what I wanted to do and using in-game timers. Following a strict routine sounds like it maximizes your profit but it minimizes your fun. Your interest dies and you become this zombie with a controller. I don't recommend using timers if you plan to grind for a long time. I recommend in-game timers, having occasional recess breaks and just having any fun you can while making money.

I couldn't do this; it would mirror my real life work routine far too much and that is the primary thing I long to escape from when I am playing games.

If it works for you and you enjoy it, that's all that matters, but the concept of having to grind and only play to earn virtual money drastically sours my feelings about the game as a whole.

It's kind of interesting about the evolution of this game though - centering all new things around running businesses, jack up the prices, and promote an atmosphere where you actually feel as though you're working a highly repetitve full-time second job just so that you can keep up with everything. No wonder my interest has declined so much! 😮
