I'm Releasing My First Ever Game on Steam and Would Love Your Feedback.

My game Marble Skies has just been accepted onto Steam! This is the first time I've ever developed a game before, so getting community feedback is really important to me

http://store.steampowered.com/app/742460/Marble_Skies/

Marble Skies is a platformer where you control your marble through various levels and try to get the best time for each one. Complete all the levels at your own pace, or challenge your friends to get on top of the leaderboards! Heavily inspired by Marble Blast, we intend to create much more features in the future over the traditional ball rolling/platforming style of game-play. After release, along with the game, and 60 levels of various difficulty, we plan to have weekly updates with new levels, and features.

Here's the first trailer, to get a sense of what the game-play is like. I really want to nail the basics of what Marble Blast had, and then after that, continue to add my own ideas, and community suggestions to the game.

Features -

- 20+ Beginner Levels
Learn the basics of the game. Get to know how to control your marble, and the various powerups you may encounter. Great for new players!

- 20+ Intermediate Levels
After the first Beginner levels, you will start to master your marble rolling skills. Now you're aiming for the best times!

- 20+ Advanced levels
Nothing will be too difficult once you get to Advanced... And then it gets even harder!

- Hand crafted from scratch
Every level is specifically designed to be intuitive, and give you the freedom to play the game in your own time. Want a casual and relaxing session? Or do you prefer to play in speedrun style? It's up to you!

- Arcade style physics
Quick and responsive controls, using your keyboard and mouse, or even a controller mean that every input you make will be accurate!

- Platforming obstacles and powerups
Each new level presents exciting obstacles, and powerups for your marble! Blast your way around with a Rocket, become a gaint with the Super Marble, float like Mary Poppins with an Umbrella, and more!

- Great soundtrack
With 24 amazing different tracks by HOME, you will be humming along with them in no time! Preview or buy the soundtrack here!
HOME - Before The Night: https://midwestcollective.bandcamp.com/album/before-the-night

- Leaderboards
Get to the top of the leaderboards, and show off to your friends! Can you get the fastest time?

- Controller support
Support for all different types of controllers!

Planned -

This is a list of current planned features, for post-launch of the game. This list may change in time, and suggestions are gladly welcome!

- Multiplayer
We will be looking to add multiplayer as soon as possible. Multiplayer will feature different modes of player vs player games.

- Marble Skins/Hats
Cosmetic only. These will be unlockable in-game, for free by getting levels up, playing consistently, or by completing daily challenges.

- Level system
We would like to give incentive to reward players that complete levels, beat their own times and completing daily challenges.

- Daily Challenges
Daily challenges will consist of things like "Beat Intermediate level 10 in 00:50 seconds", or Rolling your marble a certain distance. Something a little different to do each day you play the game.

- Generated endless-mode
Possibly generated levels that you must stay on for as long as possible to get the longest time, rather than the usual shortest time in standard levels.

- Lots more free updated levels
Once released with the 60 base levels, we plan to release around 2-5 new levels each week for FREE! A long with typical bug fixes, and community suggestions.

- Level creator/Workshop
This would be one of the very last things we are considering. Letting the community create levels would provide an almost endless amount of content for other users to play.

Actually looks like a pretty cool time passer, reminds me of an old PlayStation demo disc game that I loved when I was younger. Looks great and good luck!

Creed Bratton

That looks fun. It reminds me a bit of that old phone game "Bounce", but in 3D. I loved that game back in the day. Good luck with your game, I hope it sells well.

I absolutely HATE those marble games with a passion. However, it looks like a really well made game, and clearly a lot of thought went into it. It looks really good - nicely done.

Damn, this gives me lovely memories of Marble Madness on the good old SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis. Game looks great, I hope it does well! :)

Reminds me off the Super Monkey Ball series, which are the epitome of marble games. GGs

I don't think it's a direct rip-off of that game. It looks extremely similar to Marble Blast, which was a game that I was very fond of years ago.

This game looks like that except for the less memorable music and perhaps it has slightly better graphics. I think the thing it's missing is a custom soundtrack. That would make the game stand out even more.

Little update I made to the textures last night.

ORlRDwb.png

After careful consideration, and some feedback, I noticed that I needed to update the visuals. The tiles now give a much greater feeling of depth, and I've increased the brightness, to give a vibrant but sharp feel. This slight change has given the game a brand new and fresh feeling!

What do you guys think? The screenshot is in-engine, so it looks a bit brighter in the actual game, but wanted feedback before I changed everything.

Just got finished with another level, and decided I should record it as a time lapse.

Will this game be eSports ready?

Jokes aside what engine is the game using? Are any bought assets being used?

One of the most important things to me when designing levels is to give the player the option to either play casually, or try their hardest to beat their friends time, or get on the top of the leaderboards. It's eSports/Speedrun ready!

I'm using Unreal Engine, and all assets, are created by me. I did however choose to go with a royalty free soundtrack, as I don't have the skills to create my own sounds. I linked it in the OP, but the music is provided by HOME, you can check them out here to support them: https://midwestcollective.bandcamp.com/album/before-the-night

Thanks.

Textures were comopletely overhauled, and got a new(and better) video featuring some of the intermediate levels.

I'm also looking to get some testers to make a few videos on their play-throughs, and thoughts on the game. So if you're interested and want a copy of the game, and are willing to give some in-depth feedback, then please post below.

If the game does well enough it would be great to have it on all systems, but at the moment I'm focused on the PC release. There will be free weekly updates, and the option to change your marble skin for free! :)

For a hand made game, this looks like it would be a very fun and possibly addictive puzzle game. Great work! If my laptop worked I would probably try to play it. I can see it being a good game for the speedrunning community. Simple, yet competitive and challenging.

I really like the idea of your endless world, but a leaderboard wouldn't work for that because people can either sit there unmoving, or run a bot that keeps them moving in place to log time.

I like the idea of your cosmetics. What would this encompass? The first thing that comes to mind is different spherical objects, like other balls, Pacman, or even the GameSphere from the old Drake And Josh show on Nickelodeon. Would there be cosmetic attachments to your ball, like a hat that would sit static on top of the player ball while you roll around?

What are your ideas for multiplayer? A game like this seems very similar to the likes of the Portal series, so maybe you could make multiplayer some sort of co-op challenge mode? A player has to progress to different triggers that would allow the second player to advance to other triggers, and so on.

Thanks! I've tested the game on a quite low spec'd laptop with only a GT755m. So if you got it working, it would probably run it.

The endless mode would be difficult, not just a straight forward line of course.

At release I should have around 10-20 different skins for your marble to choose from. I plan on adding dozens, if not hundreds more that the player would unlock by getting levels up.

That's a great idea, would be very possible. After release there will be a pvp mode, where you try to push other players marbles off an arena, while collecting as many gems as you can. Thanks for your comment.

Marble racing has been quite popular lately :p

Maybe if you could make some tracks to race through that could be an additional (non-puzzle) mode.

Fantastic to hear your plans! I will keep tabs as I am interested to see where you go with this. Hey, if you got around to making it for X1, I would buy it there for sure!
