ATM robbing sprees

A while ago I realized that it's possible to steal quite a lot of cash from NPC's that have just withdrawn money at the ATM. I know, I'm four years late but I found it kinda cool. The amounts of cash won't exactly buy you a Bombushka BUT it kind if got me curious as to where there's most money to be made and all that.

Also, having played this game extensively, I'm driven towards finding interesting mini-games, challenges and otherwise free-roam stuff to do, places to thoroughly explore, high-end custom NPC cars to steal etc.

So, since I couldn't find any suitable thread, I made this to ask you all if you can share some info on the subject. Am I a descendant of Kraff or are there others like me out there who wonder about this?

The interaction menu GPS has, as some of you may now, a preset "ATM" choice which makes it quite accessible to explore this.

Also, there's nothing like stabbing an innocent NPC in the neck as a means of crowning your criminal self-indulgence, am I right?

I'm guessing the fattest wads of cash will be around Morningwood/Richman/Rockford Hills.

I also went around looking for a certain apartment without using GPS but that was a while ago. However it struck me how much more alive the game world became only by me driving around actually looking at the buildings around me. Potent stuff. Also please share if you have other ideas on how to renew the game and recover from a couple of weeks of The Grind.

Keep looking for the small details. Recently I found out, only thanks to my brother playing the game for half an hour, that there is a "walk of fame" somewhere in Richman (or other district, the one in the mid-north of town). You know, a pavement with stars on it, and Holly... Vinewood stars' names carved into it.

Not exactly thrilling, but I recently discovered that if you go to one of the low-end barber shops (not the snooty Bob Mulet), you can actually sit down on the sofa and chill.

Other than in a vehicle or an apartment, this is the only place I've found to do this (playing on PS3).

I'd love to be able to sit in a park, or at a bus shelter, or on the end of a dock, but at least there's some place my character can take a load off and look around (controller resting on right joystick in a slow rotation so I don't get booted for idling) while the real-life me takes a bio-break or gets something to eat.

Dr. Rosenthal, you're right: It's nice to shut off the mini-map and try to find your way around using landmarks and other visual cues...

...until you accidentally stumble into a Gang Attack, at least...

Maybe you could freeroam around town and look for stunts to complete? I know that's what I'll do eventually. Gotta make that sweet ramp before the airport eventually.

I've seen plenty of NPCs using ATMs, but I've never seen one leave.

Thanks, I've thought about doing this but never really got around to do it. Good idea!

Never seen them being used

This is in part why I find this type of robbing/stealing so interesting, because it's about opportunity and coincidence. Stay on the lookout and you'll probably see it happen sooner or later.

I'm thinking it would be a nice mini-game to cruise around the map, park the car across the road from an ATM and then wait for a suitable victim. But then I have no idea about the frequency of NPC's using one, so it might be a long wait.

The reason I know it pays well (or at least better than your average NPC) is only because I happened to kill one who I saw just leave the ATM, and was surprised by the amount of cash on him/her.

I'll definitely continue to explore this..

Haven't used the GPS for since my first months playing the game, after that I just knew where everything was and how to get there.

There are threads devoted to some of the things you mention, including general 'fun things to do' ones.

But I like to stunt, in planes, heli's, or on bikes...proper bikes that don't have the safety net of being able to glide!!

Take my bmx to a skate park or ride it down the sides of mountains.

Take my kraken out to explore the sea bed.

PEDs at atms should be like stores, point a weapon at them and they hand over their cash. I always just thought they would have pickup money, like 15-20 bucks, so I never bothered with that.

How much money do they drop exactly ?

Is there a correlation between a spawn chance and the time (like you see with the customized NPC vehicles) ?

Last night I drove around a little and actually found it quite common to see NPC's withdrawing money at ATMs.. Just use the preset waypoint to go to an ATM, then drive a bit away from it, set a new waypoint and it'll guide you to another ATM..

I did it at evening/nighttime. The first across the street from the Del Pierro pier "gate", a dude withdrew cash. Killed him and got $69.

Drove to Morningwood somewhere around the LifeInvader offices where a guy withdrew cash, killed him just after he left the ATM and he carried $100.

I do have a vague memory of me managing to find several hundred bucks on a victim, that's kind of the reason why I started this thread. Maybe I'll continue this investigation later this evening..

So last night I had a go at this again. I circulated the mentioned area (Richman - Morningwood - Rockford Hills) back and forth and while at first I stumbled upon a guy who withdrew $151 I then struggled to find other subjects. Turns out there aren't as many ATM's as I thought there would be, but they're easy to find using the GPS, and spamming the GPS upon traveling away from a visited ATM eventually changes the waypoint to the next one. Of course. Anyway...

I mostly found either ATM's with no one there or in some cases NPC's withdrawing cash (or rather pressing the buttons to withdraw cash) but they just kept repeating this - they never left the ATM no matter how long I waited.

So... to sum this up:

1. NPC's withdraw cash from ATM's on random, or so it seems. No real news there, BUT; sometimes they just stare into the ATM and press the keypad because they like the sound and proceeds with this indefinitely

2. Withdrawal amount seems to be around $100-200 (this far into the investigation)

3. I've had most luck during afternoon/evening hours and least luck during night-time

From now on this will be my little business on the side when I just feel like cruising around for a bit, so I'll get back on here if there's any changes or additions to the above.

Thanks, now I will wonder if I have pixel sex with a hooker, then let her go, wait for her to go to ATM and withdraw her money and then kill her, will I get all my money plus her back.

Mysteries of life, awaiting resolutions.

Don't forget that GTA ATMs lets you deposit money as well, so that sweet pixel of ass you're tapping might as well be sending all your hard earned cash all the way to Bangkok first chance she gets.

Kill her and they're gone forever!

And I don't see why you'd want the hooker back? The money I can understand tho
