All R* is doing is making me question buying a Bully or LA Noire sequel. I want SP DLC. Neither of those games had an online mode and they were f*cking perfect.

But if C* decides to be greedy and introduce one in a sequel... ugh.

Bully 2 and LA Noire Online would NOT last. Neither will Red Dead Online, what are you going to do? Buy every breed of horse in existence? Will they implement the Horsemen of Apocalypse and Unicorns?!

Well I think they will put lootboxes into read dead online. Loot boxes with special weapons, clothes, skins, ingame money. There is not enough that they could sell to make "enough" money with regular microtransactions so they use the more scummy way to pull out peoples wallets.

A lot of people here are saying that they won't play any more T2 games that have an over abundance of microtransactions...

...on this forum of a game that they presumably play regularly that has apparently become the industry leader in monetising its product.

Interesting.

I'm concerned about games future and how dangerously addicting they're going to be. Multiplayer should focus on the experience of playing and having fun with other players.

My experience with GTAO left me "shocked", you have to deal with people focusing on solo playing because the only goal is making money all over again, even if you don't actually need them. Just read to all the guides for afk playing and stuff like that, or to those comments like "I have 34456730 millions, I make 666 millions everyday, just buy supplies for 316m, afk for 9 hours, then sell the goods of twenty different businesses for 982m". This game has become a job for f*ck sake.

I say this because I started playing this game this way, but then I realized it was no more fun, it was becoming an addiction. Now I'd love to play this game for what it should be, but that's exactly the point, "what it SHOULD be"; because when I log on I'd like to play races, contact missions, activities, cruise in freemode and buy/upgrade/modify vehicles. Instead, I find myself struggling to find players to do this, and those jobs/activities are also not rewarding at all. Because if I play a missions, the payout is so low that I don't feel rewarded for what I do, not to mention the fact that it'll take you years to just buy a car with money earned with these activities.

Which brings me to another point: the money you earn should be spent on vehicles, weapons, character customization and so on, not in more businesses to earn money, so you can buy more businesses to earn even more money. It's just a dangerous, unhealty cycle.

Thats what is very dumb, contact missions are for beginners who own zero business or veterans who already have 300 Mio banked and got bored from the grind. Myself I still play those contact missions, survivals, and join my favorite heist setups, its the true GTA imo. I never wanted to play Grand Theft Post Van Simulator, but eh, its that or glitch to buy what you want.

Its also related to R* policy in term of new good contents, if you want play something that look like new contact missions, it will be more likely Bunker supply missions or SR supply missions.

Exactly.

Plus, I don't want higher payouts because I want to buy everything after a couple of hours, I'd like it to feel rewarded for the job/races I just completed/won and to enjoy freemode more by buying vehicles, clothes ecc.

Why are so many people surprised that a corporation is trying to maximize profits? A lot of y'all act like you were born yesterday and this is a foreign concept to you when it's been happening since the invention of currency.

Just because the profit-oriented thing is obvious doesn't mean that people aren't allowed or don't have to criticize how the product is "evolving".

For me there's a very big difference between offering cash for sale and building the entire game into a sheep herding station that tricks the vulnerable into spending on it.

SaturdayNight

This business model would have worked if the gameplay changed by adding different character animations or crouching, new hand to hand combat options or damage modifiers, but they even stopped doing new emotes long ago and the game has literally been stale since before heists. A hardcore freemode with no map and different death penalties or ANYTHING THAT EXPLORED OPTIONS would have been great. If they had made dramatic changes to gameplay and/or map additions that would have worked...

BUT...

Since many new and innovative ways to play and evolve the game had to abide by rules that did not conflict with how and when shark cards were ascertained (Not many mind you) the game ended up devolving into a less than stellar, 32 player polished version of saints row.

This is the short term future of gaming IMO... we are as responsible as the developers however as we give them a market. Granted the crowd on here is a little shrewder than your average gamer but software houses only get away with it because the consumer lets them.

If the majority rejected this model and voted with their wallets it would soon disappear.

This is why I hate game publishers with a passion. they sit on their asses raking in money that the developers deserve more than them. they call the shots, if one IP is making money, they all have to be like that and when a dev team isn't making up to their expectations, they kill them off. i.e. Visceral Games killed by EA.

Bullfrog (2001) Syndicate, Dungeon Keeper

Westwood (2003) Command & Conquer

Origin (2004) Ultima, Wing Commander

NuFX (2007) NBA Street

Pandemic (2009) The Sabotuer

DreamWorks Interactive (2013) Medal of Honor

PlayFish (2013) The Sims Social

Phenomic (2013) SpellForce, BattleForge

Black Box Games (2013) Need for Speed, Skate

Mythic (2014) Dark Age Camelot

Maxis (2015) SimCity

Also, get ready to add Respawn Entertainment to that list, as EA has just bought them not three weeks after shutting Visceral down...

Yeah, I'm just not interested in RDR2 or any future R* titles anymore. R* have gone from being perhaps my favorite game dev to a company I just have no faith in anymore. Though I certainly blame T2, plus the Housers, more than the actual people at R*, who have always done great work.

Longer term, I don't see many people wanting to keep working at R* as it becomes increasingly toxic. R* is on a risky slope.

The thing is that microtransactions always compromise the gameplay, in order to entice players to purchase them, hence the grinding, the high ingame prices, the low payouts, the forced focus on PvP, etc.

It's no secret that GTA V has influenced other video game franchises, and increasingly often, other video game developers are influenced by the wrong aspects of the game.

I was going to get Need For Speed: Payback, but after looking at gameplay footage, I'll either wait or give it a pass entirely. Not only does it feel like a sh*tty version of GTA, but (according to reports) the repetitive grinding is even worse, and there's a god-awful loot crate system implemented in order to upgrade your car. Come on game developers, stop trying so hard to make your franchises something they're not.

I spent my money on Zoo Tycoon: Ultimate Animal Collection instead.

I'd play a LA noire online . . . I'd play the hell out of that.

The DLC would be pretty limited though due to the fixed time period.

Somewhere around the forum a long time ago I remember someone posted glassdoor.com reviews (in the V/story mode section) about working at Rockstar Games and the reviews were extremely negative. Extremely long hours and paltry pay with a toxic environment.

E- went to my Imgur account to look at my favourites and I found one of them:

Hey everybody, did the news get around
About a guy named Butcher Strauss
Oh, Strauss just flew into this town
And he's choppin' up all the wood in the house

He's hackin' and wackin' and smackin'
He's hackin' and wackin' and smackin'
He's hackin' and wackin' and smackin'
He just hacks, wacks, choppin' that wood

Butcher Strauss got a long sharp axe
He starts choppin' and don't know when to stop
All you fellows gotta watch your cash
'Cause Strauss don't care who's wood he chops

He's hackin' and wackin' and smackin'
He's hackin' and wackin' and smackin'
He's hackin' and wackin' and smackin'
He just hacks, wacks, choppin' that wood

Ever since Strauss flew into town
He's been havin' a ball
Just cuttin' and choppin' for miles around
Casual players, longtime players, newcomers and all

He's hackin' and wackin' and smackin'
He's hackin' and wackin' and smackin'
He's hackin' and wackin' and smackin'
He just hacks, wacks, choppin' that wood

Wakes up in the morning, half past five
Chops from sunrise to sunset
I don't see how he stays alive
Wood's gonna be the death of ole Strauss yet

He's hackin' and wackin' and smackin'
He's hackin' and wackin' and smackin'
He's hackin' and wackin' and smackin'
He just hacks, wacks, choppin' that wood

The police put Strauss in jail
Yes, he finally met his fate
But when they came to pay his bail
They found him choppin' up his cell mate

He's hackin' and wackin' and smackin'
He's hackin' and wackin' and smackin'
He's hackin' and wackin' and smackin'
He just hacks, wacks, choppin' that wood

That Butcher Strauss is a crazy man
Tries to chop down the wind and the rain
Just hacks on anything he can get
Say, turn this record over, you ain't heard nothing yet

The E.T game almost killed gaming in the 80s. Now Take Two is trying to finish what it started.

This is wrong, it did not kill the gaming industry in Europe and Asia. I agree with the above comments about R* and Take Two becoming more scummy.

I played games right through the 70s and 80s, no one even knew ET existed. It did absolutely nothing. (just for the record)

So this means that for the next GTA (or RDR), the more exclusive vehicles will only be buyable with in-game currency and microtransactions? Will the newest Grotti be at 4,999,999 GTA$, plus $100,000 in Shark Cards? Supposing that RDR's microtransactions are in the form of treasury stocks, will that purebred horse with lots of stamina be available by paying $1,750 in-game and $5,000 on stocks?

If this were to happen like this, I'll just skip RDR or just buy it used when it's dirt cheap.

You have to hope they're smart enough to realise that the only reason they're making a ton of money from Shark Cards is because the core GTA game is high quality in the first place.

There is a danger it's going to push them more towards novelty updates though rather than quality DLC.

Considering what (R* North Director of Design) Imran Sarwar has said on several occasions about the way their approach to GTAO has evolved over the years, that danger seems pretty justified, IMO. :/

Even without the factor of Shark Cards and hiked prices, there's still the issue (from where I'm sitting, at least) of Sarwar's design priorities being less towards 'immersive worlds that allow for unrivaled player freedom' (which is arguably the hallmark of the series), and more 'this is what players will find cool and Fun™!'. See, for example, the narrow focus on high-end vehicles and weaponised stuff over ...pretty much anything else - because that's what gets the average teen gamer hyped (probably because their favourite YouTuber owns a Lamborghini or something), rather than any interest in variety for the sake of allowing a greater number of players get creative, or enriching the game setting.

Seriously fk that guy

I also think that Strass Zelnick can go and f*ck himself, but that's because I'm an average guy who spends his spare time playing video games instead of having an active life. Exactly because I am not like him, for better or worse.

He isn't a video-gamer, but a driven individual who makes the most out of his time instead of wasting it like we do. And it's because of this attitude that he doesn't understand how gamers think. If he actually sat down and played the games his company promotes, for hundreds of hours and for years on end, grinding missions to make in-game cash he would realise that they're becoming boring and repetitive. We're not talking about the core game itself, which is excellent, but the content that's been structured on top of that over four years in order to make additional revenue for T2 Interactive. And that's what makes the guy an asshole, being the head of a corporation that develops new content that's aimed at making in-game money instead of providing the armchair enthusiast with new and original entertainment.

It's a bit harsh on Zelnick, but he doesn't have time for video games and that's what makes him so despised.

Though, to buy a GTA/R* game in future on hope really isn't appealing dude. After 20 years as a fan, and to go on hope... Still!

'immersive worlds that allow for unrivaled player freedom'

Since GTA III... Simply this line IS Grand Theft Auto (to me, at least).

Still, that'll teach me for not buying these damn cards and 'voting with my wallet'.

I had fun, the memories will stay. But the expectation is at an all time low, TBH, the thought of looking into a new title and see anything like that Bunker research again is just something I'm not doing... I'd sooner miss out on the 'day one perks' to know if the game lives up.

Just saddens me that this is R*, a stalwart of my collection this long, to now become a regular game that I need to check before I waste time/energy.

Gran Turismo too... So I may be a bit stroppy. But I'm a bit fed up ATM running this f*cking research still.

Gotta do it though, otherwise I'm a sitting duck all over the show!.

c*nts!

As long as Rockstar makes great games I don't mind microtransactions. It won't affect my game grinding style any.

That's like saying that you don't mind being worked to death on a farm as long as your feudalist overlords give you fancy tools to harvest those corns.

Microtransactions affect your gameplay severely. The more adamant Rockstar and Take-Two are about microtransaction milking, the more time you'll spend on grinding than you'll ever spend on actually enjoying the game, and it's all just to push you into buying a shark card when you eventually break because they played with your addiction.

I advise everyone to not reach this level of ignorance. Continuing to give money to a company that proudly wears its predatory anti-consumerist tactics on its sleeves is just plain stupid.
