Re: the Broughy video. It really surprised me, coming from a person who's usually so mild-mannered and reasoned. I didn't expect that from him, and tbh felt like he was jumping on the Rockstar band-wagon of criticism a bit too late. We've been discussing Rockstar's shady practices for years, and the last six months have been really heated since the Gunrunning update, so why the sudden foul-mouthed rant at Rockstar? He knew the Lazer was coming for months, as well all did, so it was no surprise for any of us, so why was this video even made? For the purposes of attention grabbing. That's a bit silly coming from someone who makes a healthy living from Rockstar content. Like he says in his video - Rockstar have given him absolutely nothing over the years, and he's had to pay for it like everyone else, but he doesn't give anything to Rockstar either, but makes money from them by using their content for his own purposes, without permission, without license, for free. In fact, he's using a modded billionaire account right there in his video.

Biting the hand the feeds you is a bit silly, don't you think? And attention grabbing YouTube videos too? Sort it out, man. And of course you're never going to play another Rockstar game, or a future GTA online title, right? I questioned why I watch Broughy videos after this, and why I subscribe to his YouTube channel, and it's certainly not for rants like that.

Unbiased and neutral information, please.

Unless I miscounted, he swore three times in a 6+ minute video. That's not much of a foul-mouthed rant. Maybe it matters that I happen to agree with most of what he said. Maybe it is a little odd to single out the Lazer as the straw that broke the camel's back - but when you add it up, what Broughy's saying makes perfect sense. This is a vehicle they put next to no new work into. It was already in the game and readily available. You're not paying for their work in the slightest, you're just paying a yacht-level price to have something powerful and be able to spawn it in a more convenient place. That's it. I understand and co-sign his frustration, though for me, the camel's back was already broken.

Maybe he could have left the f*cks out, but ultimately I am in favor of anyone calling for boycotts on 1) microtransaction buying, and 2) buying of any game with an abusive microtransaction model, which this game has had for a long time. (Arguably since it was released, though it's gotten so much worse over the last few years.) I'm especially in favor of it when it's a popular YouTuber with a broad audience. GTA Online is due for its "most downvoted comment in Reddit history" type of moment. This is probably not it, but maybe it's a stepping stone.

I find it funny when people get upset over swearing. Do you not realize what game you're playing?

A game where stuff like this is said all the time.

If you dislike swearing why are you even playing something like Gta?

Guys this could be a half decent discussion as the topic is relevant to us all...

There is no here discussion though, it is either knock a developer with your post if not the you are either a fanboy, a shill or a R* employee.

If there is only one point of view here we might as well ask for the thread to be closed.

Exactly, I expected this before clicking on this thread, everytime someone provides their own opinion about this 5 others jump in with their 'how much did r* pay you", get the f*ck out of here with this "lets all hate Rockstar or else you're fanboy" that's stupid.

I've not caught up yet.

I do feel with the Lazer, as technically we're not supposed to know it's coming (much less, see players glitch it in, lol), price/warstock info too.

With that in mind, I do feel the man would be in a tough position to go widely public over something yet to be added, you know?.

Just, had it gotten hot then, R* may have nerfed the price to lut up the proverbial middle finger and maybe discredit what could become a voice for some.

I don't watch youtube myself. But if one of the more known guys can reach more, and so on, I feel it can only help.

Be a fresh change from seeing mrboss open the game up, he could help it get good!.

Though do agree it's gotta be unbiased and nuetral dude, to bemefit all and not hamper any, you know?.

And then proceed to pull the "R* is a Business and business need to make money" card, like we didn't f*cking knew at this heights, and then wonder why people get f*cking mad for your opinion.

This may be a circlejerk at this point, but honestly, it's way better that being a contrarian just for the sake of it and trying to defend a company with the same old excuses.

Just look at some comments here using the same business mumbo jumbo that companies themselves use to justify their anti-consumer tactics, consumers shouldn't defend companies, at all.

EDIT: added a crucial word.

and just for the sake of being on topic, I do agree that this should not be defended, it's a toxic business model and it will ruin the next games just like it's doing for gta right now, but I don't like this whole "how much did they pay you", reply with a valid point or don't reply.

He has tested unreleased vehicles in the past and also mentioned if he thinks the price is worth it iirc but he didn't have so much "feeling" involved those times

On a side note I think broughy really started voicing his opinion on R*/T2 around the same time this thread was created and for the same reason

I think broughy got most of the subscribers from his testing videos and that's what most people are interested in seeing, not all this rambling.. and I'm not just thinking about the video mentioned here tho

I'm a bit indifferent on people should or should not be defending this.

Not that it should be defended in my opinion mind, but many have simply been hoodwinked, and many know the issue, but are still happy, lots just don't care, and all gamestyles too can offer differing opinions too.

To get an understanding of the depths it goes, and the widespread acceptance/disapproval overall, we gotta see it from all sides to be fair. And then hope to find a way that everyone wins really, gamers, those paying (aware, or blindly on faith) or those creating/producing this content/games.

I want them to make money, means more games. I want them to re-invest some (more than it seems) to encourage us to be keen to buy further in if we so choose...

And the same with playstyles... Just be attracting to all, rather than press all into one demographic at times, and allow more freedom and choice.

Again, for me, as this is my first online game, and my first real step into forums and social media too, I'm genuinely fascinated by some of what I've learned, and do see so many grey areas that, for right or wrong, do seem to need addressing.

Been a great read, had to google loads of terms and sh*t. I do like to read/learn.

@ kenmy13999...

Fair points dude. I haven't seen it yet, but agree if the man's been doing pre-release videos, then another may not have hurt potentially. And, again I agree, if he had issues before, why wait for more to get frustrated rather than maybe take the lead in a way.

But again, had thing heated up over unreleased things, there could've been potential for R*/T2 (other companies too, not just our game of course), with the lawyers they got and sway, plus as I said, they could have kind of nerfed him there to make him look wrong. From R*'s POV, his testing pre release things, could have been seen as free advertising even, and could have contributed to the ever moving 'fastest supercar' that's happened many times... (Just thinking out loud, there's many factors to what they add to GTA:O, I'm just throwing out thoughts here, lol).

I know it's a bloody mess is all. But it does seem, looking at EA here, that we gamers can find a voice and potentially use it. I hope it does prove so.

Though, as the trade off between grinding and buying wasn't really set as firmly, and open to more choice. But with the research, IMO, as we've seen here, and in other threads too. It's been a huge 'miss' in terms of the DLC's prior for so many. Not in a financial sense, I realise Gunrunning garnered a good share of revenue mind.

More in concept than the actual stuff. Again, the research, the need for a bunker/MOC/research/then to buy/then to upgrade...

A huge buy-in, time or money, a big ask. For a full game, let alone a DLC, lol.

For me, what I've seen. With the way it was going, we needed a Gunrunning moment. Everything R* was adding was seemingly less inspiring, and then GR happened. Big backlash, and looking at Smuggler's Run, no more research, a start for sure... I'm really hoping they 'tried, failed, and rethought' what they do, to the better for all. Them and us. Paying or playing.

It's been mentioned and it's really no surprise either but what's maybe even worse is that several countries don't see some loot boxes as gambling either, at least not the kind that was in battlefront 2 but the kind in counter strike might be a different story

The video in question got 37,000 views and 5,400 likes (to only 135 dislikes). Regardless of what he made his reputation doing, there's obviously a large and receptive audience to anyone talking about how Rockstar and Take Two are trying to screw us. As there should be. And this is comparable to or more than most of his previous videos in terms of views, and a lot higher than most of them in terms of likes per view.

In his most recent video, he stated that the testing will come back in 2018, right after new year's. The drip feed is most likely what held him back from the testing. Oh, and he went to the U.S for a few weeks as well, so he was kinda busy.

Just read this article and thought it somewhat relevant to this thread...

IO Interactive leave the Square Enix stable and SE let them take their biggest franchise with them... "It's because I believe it wouldn't be Hitman unless it was Hitman made by IO".

http://www.gamesradar.com/holy-crap-hitman-got-to-go-indie-because-of-a-legitimately-feel-good-video-game-business-story/?utm_content=buffer7b929&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer_grtw

I can;t comment on the validity of the story but it was a nice read.

I've not caught up yet.

I do feel with the Lazer, as technically we're not supposed to know it's coming (much less, see players glitch it in, lol), price/warstock info too.

With that in mind, I do feel the man would be in a tough position to go widely public over something yet to be added, you know?.

I think broughy got most of the subscribers from his testing videos and that's what most people are interested in seeing, not all this rambling.. and I'm not just thinking about the video mentioned here tho

In his most recent video, he stated that the testing will come back in 2018, right after new year's. The drip feed is most likely what held him back from the testing. Oh, and he went to the U.S for a few weeks as well, so he was kinda busy.I said in a earlier post that before he got x amount of subscribers it was more important to get the testing videos out as fast as possible compared to all the +10 minutes of random rambling.. Not just since smugglers run or gunrunning..

This is my opinion of him as a youtuber and really have nothing important to do with his Lazer video (which I'm not saying is wrong). People can say what they want about R*/T2 and Broughy but that doesn't change the fact that he's slowly turning in to a money driven youtuber just like how R*/T2 is money driven companies

I'm not defending R*/T2 so if that's why people feel the need to defend him it's not necessary or I might also be one of the few that see the irony in it..

I won't answer more about broughy either but I Wanted to clarify my first comment about him

I do understand why he does it and that he wants to make money, who wouldn't? I also understand that the evil greedy companies this thread is about also wants to make money but that doesn't mean I have to defend any of them.

I will also see his testing videos in the future

sorry for all the off topic

Couldn't agree with you more about Broughy. I am not commenting on the content of his video or disagreeing with his POV (shame I have to add this to my post, blame the thread not the poster ). I do find it ironic how Brougy's style change towards gaining more views (profit) is highlighted by him moaning about a developer doing exactly the same.

Each to their own though, we all need to make a living. I heard YouTube is his main income now, I am not going to knock him for trying to make a profit as I can just pick and chose which of his vids to watch.

All his podcasts are over an hour long, and not a single ad in between. He never clickbaits, either.

He never clickbaits, either.

I hope this remains the case. Clickbait is a very broad term though, someone somewhere will be accusing him of it already.

AndYuKnowTHIS

Not surprised and neither should any of you be. GTA is similar to COD in many, many ways. Both have been in the game industry for years. 11 yr olds, Youtube shills, Hand holding Gameplay.

Yup. Not surprised at all.

144k subscribers on youtube is equivalent to minimum wage in a first rate economy. Nothing great but better than working a job you don't like... maybe. But he wont get rich doing it, that's for sure.

Wahluu :)

I guess it's the original name of the Mountain.

It was maybe over the line of off topic..

I just raced it, nice race

Cheers :)

Always nice to go OT for a compliment. I had to really scale it back due to prop limits, happy with it in the end though. I got a few real life tracks if you wanna check them out.

@ Geoffman...

I do agree it's a laborious chore for those much newer to the game/franchise. But for those still here from day one, we had ample time between DLC's to rinse each one, so we either did the grinding already, or just didn't notice is as much, simply as we were invested in what we were doing too much.

This year though... Well, I made my case, lol... Worst idea ever that research. Far too many hours, or too much money for something so random, IMO.

There been friends of mine that been around since the beginning, they were able to keep up for awhile but as the prices of things dramatically increased and the means of earning money to pay for them pretty much stayed where it is, they eventually fell behind and could not longer keep up. They eventually ended up quitting cause they did not want to spend one hundred dollars to get like two vehicles cause unlike so many others that play this game they are financially conscious and understand basic math enough to realize you are not getting your money's worth with the shark cards.

Cause like I said before, if you don't have like 8+ hours to spend on the game, you will inevitably fall behind.

I did, I played at least 8hr+ a day, for like 2 1/2years, then I knocked it down to playing 36hr stints on weekends for like around a year, then i quit(last October).

So even if you are willing to grind(which is basically useless when solo) non-stop and not actually enjoy the missions or freeroam, even IF, you still fall far behind.

And yes that includes @$100 spent on sh!tcards over the years

$100 Sh!tcards no longer cover the price of new items, maybe 1.

36hrs of grinding will net @1-3,000,000 when solo and not exploiting glitches.

and in those 36hrs you cant actually enjoy the game as you must repeat the same tiring task over and over, usually in invite only or friend only(solo) sessions.

Phuck, I'd rather play storymode, where you get @$400,000,000 in @36hrs.

So yeah all I was getting at is that even IF you play like 8+ hours daily, you will STILL inevitably fall behind, and are left with the 3 choices already mentionedy...

-buy sharkcards

-glitch money

-or quit the best game you ever played.

Oh and loot boxes have been around forever, BUT they really weren't gambling originally, because they were free!

and

Super-Mario-Bros-3-large-521.jpg

literally a slot machine...

BUT they were FREE!

Ruslan Mashinov

A business trying to make money, nothing wrong with that. If you really care then don't buy their games and if enough people like you care about such things then they'll change their ways.
