How do you view your online friends IRL?

We spend a lot of time with our online friends either just messin around in lobbies or on jobs or even some have spent hours talking on the mic.

Do you ever wonder what your friends may look like irl?

Do you guys associate your friends with their characters or in some other way?

I sometimes wonder if I'm the only one who does this but when I am with friends I don't even think about it but to me I see them in real life as their character if that makes any sense. Like if they told me about something they did irl I am picturing in my head their character doing these things.

Like I view friends in real life

As long as we can have engaging conversations and talk endlessly about common interests I don't see them different from actual friends, physicalities and what not withstanding of course.

I don't care what anyone actually looks like, what you have to say means alot more to me.

I project images of themselves based on their character/personality traits.... if that makes sense. I don't imagine that they'll look like their avatars, especially when I know that they're male playing with a female avatar. That would be weird. :D

I am one of those males playing as a female avatar (Leveling up Char 2). Almost every day some thirsty kid will either add me or send a message asking if I'm really a girl. It must suck to be a legit girl gamer.

Perks of being a girl: Some lads gave my character over half the cut for the Pacific Standard heist.

Some that have a close friend statuts with me have probably seen what I look like in real life as I have a pic from a photoshoot  As for other PSN friends, its hard to tell. I can't judge them by their character as some have females. I go by personality, which most are coo! :D

No Use For A Name

Some time after I signed up for this site, I read through the member photos thread. I was pleasantly surprised at how attractive many of the people are, both male and female. Definitely goes against the typical dweeb stereotype.

Most of the people I game with are either friends IRL to begin with (most common is my best friend of the last 18 years), and the few others I've either friended on FB or have a decent mental image of style.

For example, one online friend is an obvious wicked stoner so I imagine he has shaggy hair and likes baggy clothes, another has a thick southern accent so I'm tempted to guess he's a bit portly and wears trucker caps.

I am so f*cked if they do this.

One of my buddies, known him for a very long time, out of the blue shows interest in streaming. Okay, cool, a bit weird to stream car meets but if people tune in to watch then you got an audience. While doing one of his tests I saw what he looked like and in my mind I refused to accept it. He looked somewhat similar to his in-game character but I blocked out his real face to the point where I don't relate him and the character. To me he's still the character. I hate to imagine what the person behind the character looks like, I prefer the mystery. I like the "roleplay" aspect of it. To be someone else for a few hours a day is a concept that I've always liked. Don't mix that up with being a fake but someone who comes out of their "shell" while playing GTA:O is fascinating to me as I like to think that I do that.

Now for viewing them on a friendship level? As Rafae said if they can get deep and not constantly talk about how they slept with my mom then they're as good as friends as any.

I've met an online friend just once in my life. It was a TF2/Gmod bro.
Our school got a Helsinki (Finland) trip set up and i actually signed up for it, cuz i had a friend who lives there. I didn't want to go for city tours or museums so i didn't pay extra dosh for it.

I informed him about this stuff and he was actually down for our meeting, so we set up meeting location ect. He told how should i find him, like what clothing he will wear and also gave me quick appearence description. I actually didn't have any serious expectations about his look (except i didn't want him to be a pedo or something) and it appeared that he was smaller than me, but i was ok with that. I joked "Haha, i expected to see a Soldier with a Salty Dog hat on".

To be honest, the whole trip sucked, thanks to the bois who got drunk at night, but it was actually a cool experience being alone in a city you never been into and meeting an online friend.

Also, most of my online friends are using their real photos as avatars, so it's no suprise how they look. On the other hand, i always try to stay anonymous, i never show my face, it's hidden below the gasmask. (^:

(and i don't know why, but i got used to it)

P.S. Im looking foward to meet my other online friend, but he lives way more far away, than Helsinki. Ugh.

Oh my, oh geez, everyone is so f*cking nice here. You guys must all have lots of friends, in and out of the game, you always hang out, talk until midnight and share your dreams.

How cute.

I can actually be rude and mean towards my online acquaintances (and one friend, as only one of them can be considered as such). Don't have to, but I behave on the Internet like I behave in real life, so if the mood strikes me or there is a good reason, I'll be an asshole to deal with.

I talk with the people I play with quite a lot on our Discord server. We're not only talking about GTA of course, but also about other (more private) things. With most of them, I know how they look like IRL, so I don't have to imagine.

Funny, I kind of imagine other GTA players as normal looking, for the most part. Occasionally someone will get on the mic and you hear &/or picture Gilbert Gottfried.

F*ck.

OT: I do imagine others as their characters, because often they do design their character like themselves

(I did it too). If I know their gender however and they play as the opposite gender, I try to imagine said character as the opposite gender.

I do this simply because I like hiding behind a online anonymous identity and am honestly scared of my appearance and such getting out :(

I wouldn't be able to trust my online friends irl. I think they'd try to kill me irl. I only make friends with assholes in GTA.

So these dudes usually attempt to kill me whenever they have no one else to kill or while my back is turned. Probably to get their KD up, probably for laughs.

Then we sit there for like an hour or two sniper dancing in first person or some sh*t.
