  1. 1. Simple question: If Rockstar discontinued DLC development for GTAO, would you still play?

Yep, all day.

Second the opinion above me though, playing with a dope crew keeps me playing so much more too!

For a short while, sure.

If they release all vehicles in the game for storage, give us lobby options and make all payouts minimally doubled- well, then, I may just play forever.

I probably would, but not as often as I do now (one of the reasons I play regularly is to make money for any new DLC content I like).

Yes, I'll continue to play as if nothing changed. The lack of dlcs never stopped from me playing & enjoying GTA.

I'm not sure how to explain this so please bear with me while I try.

I'm a GTA lifer, I go way back to the top down era & I've developed quite an addiction for it ... #TheAddictionIsRealz.

GTA III turned the dial into 11 for me & I've played it almost everyday. Although I enjoyed Vice City, it didn't do it for me (Miami Vice was before my time), but San Andreas broke the gauge all together for me & pushed my addiction to another level. IV & V built on that.

I play exclusively solo, so I treat GTAO like an SP even though its not as polished as V's SP.

I don't know what's coming tomorrow... If any & I play like that. My experience with Android OS thought me to accept things for what they are NOW & not fall for the promise what it might do a week, a month or a year from now. If that makes any sense.

I tried cutting back on GTAO multiple times in the past year & a half by playing Forza Horizon 3, Metal Gear V, Need For Speed, Sleeping Dogs & Saint Row 3, but all I could think of is when can I get this over with so I can return to GTAO? Lol.

I can't cut & run on it because dlcs stopped, I learned a lot of things from the franchise & I can't imagine my life without it.

Word for word the same way I feel.

👏👏

Voted "Other", because I guess I would neither quit nor play the game on a regular basis. It's been approximately a year since a decent update was released, and neither Cunning Stunts: Special Vehicle Ciscuit, Gunrunning nor Smuggler's Run captured my attention for more than 15 minutes.

The first was so miniscule and underwhelming after entire 3 months of waiting, it's unbelievable, and then, it unlocked heists vehicles to everyone, killing the reason to actually play them. Second was a massive failure, with cookie cutter business model and bunch of militarized personal vehicles, including a flying bike, successfully ruining the immersion and making GTA Online look and feel like a clone of Saints Row. Then, there's Smuggler's Run, with yet another ultra monothematic concept, and yet another cookie cutter completely not profitable business. On top of that, R* has been putting emphasis on pointless, mindless PvP, which I simply hate and avoid.

All that being said, while last 3 updates were, in my honest opinion absolute failures and changed the game for worse, I never quit GTA Online. I do regularly check weekly sales and bonuses, have long term wishlist of vehicles to buy, and most importantly, will to play, if only R* gives me a good enough reason to. I've already achieved what I wanted to achieve in GTA Online, meaning aside from vehicle wishlist, I have nothing to do in the game. I've done 150-200 car exports, finished every contact mission and Lamar's lowrider mini arc, beaten Criminal Mastermind along every single heis challenge, and completed their finales way more than 100 times. Otherwords, I have literally no reason other than buying stuff to play the game now.

And speaking of stuff to buy - I could have bought every missing vehicle and upgrade it, but I've decided not to - instead, I'd rather wait for discounts, because this way I at least have a reason to return to GTA Online once a week, for few minutes. That's my artificial motive keeping me somewhat engaged, but obviously, it's not enough to make me play actively again.

Now, answering the original question - would I quit if updates for GTA Online were discontinued? Neither yes or no, similarly to what happens now. Despite new updates being released, I have no interest in them - either because ot their theme (Gunrunning) or underwhelming, uninspiring content (Smuggler's Run and CS: SVC). As long as I have my own goals, I will keep track of them and won't openly quit GTA Online, but on the other hand, where's nothing left to do, there's no reason to play it either.

I could retire from GTA Online once I own everything, but not before, I hate leaving things unfinished. Even then, though, it'll be difficult to say goodbyes to my character and couple of cars I am really attached to.

Other important thing I guess I should mention is what would make me stay - and the answer is pretty self explanatory - not completely repetitive activities you can do both solo and with other players, and something to unleash community's creative side, like a contact mission editor (and contact mission playlists). Also, I think activities reserved for public sessions should be unlocked in private lobbies as well, since R* wasn't able to ballance out gameplay for 3 years, the game is plagued by modders, griefers and money begging kids, cash is being taken from legit players with no explanation (I've lost hard earned 600k), meaning R*'s anti-cheat is an absolute joke, and also, getting yourself a solo public session is easy and quick, solving all problems.

This entire PvP nonsense has to end, on the other hand. I don't mind competitive modes existing, even though I have absolutely no interest in playing them and to me, they're not what should be a GTA game's focus. But let's face it - PvP is the lowest common denominator, and all the new promoted adversary modes have a lifespan of 1-2 days. They're a waste of resources and time that could have been used to develop something that can make an impression and change the game for good. Look at heists - 2 years passed, and they're still the best thing GTA Online has to offer, due to their more ambitious concept and mission construction, where everyone has a role. More or less the same applies to Lamar's lowrider missions - fun little co-op adventures with proper story, and more to do than "go to point A, steal item B and kill everyone, deliver item B to point C, being chased by more enemies", which is the basic contact mission template. Now, these are things you can return to, and it's a shame R* does not introduce anything similar to the game, nor allows us, players, to create our own missions. Their current business plan is a short term one. In the long run, it'll work for GTA Online's disadvantage and alienating its core, devoted playerbase, like yours truly.

@down:

Always a pleasure to engage in a good conversation, fw3 :) Heists are indeed a hit or miss, although if you find good, reliable players, they can be ultra fun. I've met my Criminal Mastermind team by playing with randoms, so it's possible to find great people this way. Funniest fact is, among them, I've met my second to command in Fleeca's finale. But then, for every gem, there's dozen or more of rocks, so I perfectly understand your point of view. Been there, done that, and seen people failing every single mission and finale in every way possible.

Thank you for a super well-thought out reply. I enjoyed reading it through and nodding along, until I read this. I am not a fan of Heists and found them to be a complete chore. I made it through all of them, eventually, though I never started a single one. If you've got friends online, I imagine it makes the overall experience 100,000 times better than when you're a lone wolf, like myself. Playing with randoms made Heists take far, far too long to complete and for one of the more painful experiences in GTAO.

Just 2¢ added to your $20 reply. lol! Cheers! :)
