[Nostalgia] How would you explain how GTAO was back in the days to a newcomer?

You could only own 10 cars.

It was a horrible time.

Very much agree here, I forgot about the limitations of the time. Certainly there's more room for choice, vehicles and clothes too.

I feel like I'm at that point now, lol. I don't really care how, new or existing, I need garages now.

Jets would fly unimpeded for an hour or more, killing everybody! Is that the kind of world you want?!!!

True... But at least by avoiding one and staying in a private/crew session, no parts of the game were withheld. I know the game has had many great additions, but I do feel this choice is one that's gone backward not forward like the game has.

We all ran down a hill for hours on end playing Coveted. Happy, and free.

Still happens.

I cannot stay airborne in a lazer like i used to. That mkii sniper really took the bite out of the lazer and hydra. I can evade most heavy sniper shots in the pyro but it lacks the destructive power of the lazer cannon. It's far more difficult to hit ground players with free aim missiles and bombs from the bombers. The skies have been properly balanced imo.

Still happens. Not when I'm in the lobby. I specifically hunt Hydras and Lazers in my underrated aircraft.

There have been a few times where I have stayed in a jet for almost an hour, but maybe that's because everyone leaves, leaving only 9 others in the lobby.

Come take my Lazer down in your underrated aircraft ;)

Well, we never knew if the servers would be up and running, but if they were, it was usually a lot of fun! Sure, vehicle storage was limited and we always had ideas (and complaints) for improvements, but I remember a friend of mine saying to me, "you have over $30M; I doubt you will ever be able to spend that much!" Little did we know what the future held! I rarely play now, but I'm technically poor by the standards of today - I cannot even imagine having to grind with the things available today; I'd rather drink a glass of bleach than sit in a public lobby all day running free roam businesses.

We did not have adversary jobs and we were not flooded with notifications to buy this or that every time we loaded up a new session. Heists were fun the first few times we played them, but when everyone and their cousin started grinding them (namely Pacific Standard) non-stop and refused to do much of anything else, the writing was on the wall - the game started moving in this direction where grinding became the norm and those of us who played jobs for fun became a shrinking minority. Add to that the things I've already mentioned (public free roam endeavours) and just the sheer amount of ridiculous, over-the-top content and you now have a game that has strayed quite far from its initial feel and origins.

I'm not saying that the old days did not have issues; I've already mentioned the reliability of R* game services, but no one needed to grind 24/7 just to be able to buy a couple of useless vehicles. People actually joined regular races and we could easily avoid the primitive version of stunt races and parkour deathmatches. I believe that more than a few of those who enjoyed the game in the many of the same ways that I used to enjoy it are clearly beyond burnt out (like myself) or have discarded their initial preferences in favour of partaking in free roam endeavours and/or grinding.

I hate to say it, but I would gladly take sluggish game services and the lack of vehicle storage over the state, nature, feel, and flow of the game today.

We were really excited for getting a static $9 grand payout from "Violent Duct". (It's a Gerald mission) ((Gerald gives low paying entry level missions)) (((Missions are things that people used to do in GTA Online for money)))

And then you'd lose your level 40 character and have to start all over, but we did and enjoyed every minute!

Nostalgia = updates were practically free and everyone played whatever missions they wanted to.

Reality = updates consisted of free swimming trunks and a broken bottle. The only contact missions anyone played were Rooftop Rumble and Coveted.

Everybody had a dunce hat and bounty's were a much higher payout, strange things used too happen as well like random explosions and spontaneous combustion

This was my early life :D

and hospital bills where way higher ($2000) per visit.

and not everyone could afford to waste ammo, so war zones in los santos where not as wide spread as now.

and when r* gave us the $500k some of us spent it on car upgrades or new apartments.

Didn't the mechanic actually used to pull up and deliver the car himself? Or did I just dream this?

Back then when you saw a chrome Entity XF backing up on you, you had to pull a RPG.

It was also not only the best armored car, but the best offroader as well.

You know in Back to the Future when Marty dreams of one day living in Hilldale, because he saw it as the epitome of good taste and style? Then, years in the future, it has become the preserve of poor scrubs who can't afford anything better?

That's the Zentorno.

One of the best PvE missions ever (and of course, it paid insanely well and Rockstar didn't create it):

(not a good video, but the only one in English I could find)

It was a heavily modified Capture job but all the players were the attackers and the defenders were all top-quality NPCs that would use helicopters and extra-aimbot skills. It drew so much processing on PS3/XB360 that the mountains in the back would clip away at times.

Didn't the mechanic actually used to pull up and deliver the car himself? Or did I just dream this?

Yeah, when he didn't drive off the little sh*t.

Or roll it over upon delivery. Sometimes he'd attack you if you bumped into him while he got out of the car.

Remember when everyone was just a dot on the radar? You may be near a good-dot or a douche-dot; a plane, and helicopter, or a tank; you didn't know until you could see (and shoot at) each other.

When bounty hunting back in the one-dot-fits-all days I always used to disguise the fact I was in my Buzzard by following roads and highways until the last possible moment.
