What If the Money Aspect Were Removed from GTAO

Even though i have hundreds of billions, i would like the game a lot more if the money aspect was to be removed, and friendly fire off lobbies such as in GTA IV would return. Those where the days.

Difficult to say what the general populas would do so the following is based on my experience. A few months ago I used, uh hmmm 'methods' to give myself a large stock of car bonds. In essence after near four years of earning money through playing the game I was suddenly in the position where I will most likely never have to worry about in game cash again.

Now depending on what I felt like doing I would generally spend most of my time racing, mostly because depsite it's mass of flaws it is the least crappy of the activities you can do in GTA O. The heists and missions were also a decent way of making cash and despite becoming stupidly easy since the armour and weaponisation of a ton of vehicles it was still a fun and fairly predictable way of making cash.

Out with that the only other activity I would spend any time doing was I/E, again because easy to do solo, fairly quick cash and a decent return for little investment.

Since pay day (as I like to call it) I have done no cash earning activities at all. Saying that I have also spent considerably less time of late playing GTA O (because their is simply just much much better games out there to play.) When I do play I spend most of my time dicking around in Freeroam and although I do not go all out on the trolling I do find it quite a lot of fun to wind folk up, I usually avoid folks doing CEO and other work stuff but the folk just freeroaming I will happily roll up in my armoured Tamper and see how much I can wind them up. Outside of that I will take part in the usual freeroam events but outside of that I have done nothing to earn money.

Thinking about it's a benefit reward scenario, I/E was good in that it required little to no lobby hopping and was easy but often tedious work, same process each and every time little to no variance quite boring. Racing was fun enough and gave a decent enough reward to justify the pain in the arse of having to deal with GTA Os god awful lobby hopping P2P hamster wheel powered servers and lobbies but as the races got more and more stupid Cunning Stunts 1, Cunning Stunts 2, those stupid races with the jet voltic and ruiner (can't remember the race name) and these god f*cking awful transform races the fun factor just isn't there and no longer needing money means I am no longer willing to put up with the stupid race design and implementation combined with the god awful lobby hopping anymore. Ironically if their were more standard races, like back in the day I would be willing to put up with the nonsense to take part but finding actual decent races with retard mode turned off is nothing short of a miracle and I am really not going to sit around for 15 - 30 minutes as a host on the off chance a lobby will fill.

I may try my hand at missions once again, theirs always a chance of doing a mission I haven't done for ages and they are usually pretty fun despite the aformentioned issues.

Everything else is sh*te (adeversory modes, deathmatches, all the other crap this game does), and by sh*te I mean they were sh*te enough that I wouldn't put up with all the aformentioned BS to get in to a game back when I needed the money that playing the utter crap that most of GTA O content provided, I would have to be on smack while also being smacked about the head to actually play the other stuff now that I don't need the money.

The game doesn't need the money aspect removed but what it does need is the ability to make your investments work for you. I am not talking stupid returns I am talking about enough to supply you with a means to pay for some stupid time in freeroam. You can have a 5 businesses yet unless you specifically carry out the money making activities the businesses don't make a cent. f*ck you can have millions of GTA Dollars in your bank account yet you earn no interest, the game has a stock market that could be driven by player activity yet you can't invest in it at all. The opportunity for folk to make some cash using a bit of clever management is there but the reality is Rcokstar do not want you making money in any other way than by diggin in to your wallet and handing over wads of real world cash, or grinding your life away doing boring repetitive in game tasks (and I suspect Rcokstar even have issue with players doing the latter as well.)

I'll tell you what it would be. It'd be a living f*cking hell, worse than IV's lobbies of people killing each other over and over....

Ghost Org spamming for days, people blowing up cars left and right. All the good griefing tools easily obtainable with only a few clicks, anybody could become a griefer!

Everyone would have everything and everything maxed out.

It would be the ultimate power fantasy in GTA. I would love it at least

Well I mean most of us long term players on this forum are in that position. I haven't had to grind for money since double RP heists, when was that? a while ago now. I don't know that I play much differently that anyone else?, I log in... sell a car.. log out, occasionally start Fully loaded and blow some people up. Fly around in a plane to blow some people up.. I never play for more than a few minutes at a time, that's the main difference I guess.

So many ways I could think of that playing out. What would it be replaced with? Mobile gaming type sh*t? Waiting 2 days to get a new super car, or will they feature resources like energy and add an option to buy more for $2.99?

Or everybody can just have. But then, I like to be like me and nobody else dress like or drive the same thing as me. Money was never the problem, I'm a clothes guy, but to combat all those $2 million up prices? I say go with it, hellfire.

I don't think the money aspect should be removed, I just think it could have been used for much more than just buying cars as opposed to stealing them.

Yes games can evolves from their origins which is what GTAO has done, but at the same time its also limited itself. It should have focused the money more towards the homes/businesses side of things. Other than inviting friends/randoms to your house to drink game beer and smoke game weed, they could have focused on kitting your home out with stuff like arcade games, pinball machines, and other 2 player games.

Buy boats, ships, planes, choppers, army vehicles, rare super cars yes, but every day sports cars and stuff makes no sense to use as financial game, even rare paint jobs etc would have been a good way to spend large money.

I recently acquired a pretty large sum of money that'll keep me satisfied for months (if not years) to come. I've got to say, not having to worry about money anymore makes the game so much more enjoyable for me. You don't have to worry about grinding anymore and if you want something, you just get it. It's pretty liberating. While I don't see Rockstar removing the cash aspect of Online any time soon (all hail Shark Cards), I do think the game would become more enjoyable for people if it became a game again instead of work to chase the almighty dollar.

I'm in the same boat but I have a different feeling about it. Learning how to do glitches isn't as easy as it sounds (just read the stupid questions 90% of the people ask "at the site that shall remain nameless"). So us who recently acquired large sums of money are special, and should enjoy our status lol.

My challenge in the game is that at my advanced irl age, my reflexes and thinking skills (and beer drinking habit) are better suited to doing glitches than actually being good at playing the basic game. I love pvp but I suck at it, basically.

So I also get online just to sell a car, but then I get involved in a good stunt racing lobby or a lobby full of people trying to get killed by my Oppressor, or I get stuck and spawn killed a million times by someone who knows how to take out an Oppressor lol.

I'm also of advancing age and you start to realise you just don't have the life time left to waste grinding on a game.. You have to get smarter with your time and hit the glitches hard when the glitches are there.

I'm just curious as to how others would perceive GTAO, a game which we obviously all adore and cherish (and even loathe, at times), if the entire money aspect of the game were reverted.

For example, let's say Red Dead Redemption came out and was a big hit, drawing a large portion of the GTAO user-base away.

As a move to keep players loyal and playing GTAO, they decided to just get rid of the whole GTA$ methodology and made everything in the game accessible: weapons, vehicles, clothing, snacks.

So that now, the only reason to race is to win. The only reason for a Survival is to beat it. The only reason for any job, mission, adversary, etc. would be to simply win the competitive aspect of it and to gain RP.

Would RP become the new denomination for players to strive for?

Would Job Points possibly become valuable in some way, beyond their almost non-existent benefit, now?

How do you think you or other players would react and respond to a GTAO where money was no longer a factor?

As always, this is just a curiosity that I got thinking about and figured I'd put it out for discussion.

Cheers! :)

"Dude, R* just made GTAO all moneyless everything FREE now! I upgraded my Faggio, dude! omg!!"

03KzjJt-0EKpe8_znaGy0A_0_0.jpg

Would be a bad move IMO for multiple reasons:

-Rockstar would not likely cut-off GtO massive revenue stream

-Money is the great divide and motivation for buying tangable objects in the game as it is in reality

-RP is useless above lvl 120, for there are zero rewards for lvling past that point and I think a huge mistake, there should be prestige lvl unlocks such as items, skins, vehicles etc...

-Violence in free roams would be worse than it is now with no monitary objectives as players would more likely sit idle in free roam

If you took away the money you would have GTAIV’s Multiplayer.

Everyone would have access to everything, everything would be owned and you would have a true Armageddon of everyone in freeroam with the only the most-powerful weapons killing each other because all PvE activities would be pointless.

I would be boring as hell, just like IV. The only goal would be PvP kills and K/D ratios.

This. We had this during the billionaire days. It was cool for a while, but since I'm not a troll or a griefer, it got boring pretty quickly. There was no point to anything; it all just boiled down to mindless killing for the sake of mindless killing. There was literally no reason to do anything else. When you have EVERYTHING, there are no in-game goals. No one did missions or heists or any free-roam activities. It was just a perpetual battle royale. A game with no endgame. It wasn't until R* cleaned out everyone's account that the game became "fun" again because you actually had a reason for doing things again. Jobs, bounties, etc... All the gameplay components had purpose again. In short, this is a horrible idea.

And I still have stuff to accomplish in the game (I started late plus I suck plus I have a ft job and stuff etc etc *excuses* ), like I've never beaten a TT par time, I still have lots of paint to unlock. My 2nd char still isn't rank 120, whenever I get in a street race lobby I suck because I don't know the tracks, I never practiced strafing in a Lazer or Hydra so I have to use missiles etc etc.

Hard to do any of that stuff if you need to grind for 2 hours a day.

I reached level 400 before I unlocked metal paints lol. I still haven't unlocked lime green. I think I have everything else unlocked though. Well except the gun range at the bunker.. I don't think any human can do that.

I JUST unlocked Lime Green on my main char and I'm so proud of myself lol. I want to unlock Matte Midnight Purple but good luck trying to get people in a rally race (edit: sea race. Same problem though lol).

Yeah I also have lots of work to do at the gun range (not to mention Flight School).

I'd get bored with it pretty fast, tbh.

If everyone could get anything, then there'd be nothing special about your account. I loved whenever a new update dropped I would discuss with my buddies what new car made us salivate. Everyone would get their cash and later, after spending a bit of time at LSC/Benny's, drive up with the thing he wanted the most, where we'd compare our d... rides and share ideas.

If you could get anything there'd be just clicking to get anything and not even give it a second thought.

- Hey, dude, I just got 30 new cars.

- Yeah, dude, me too. Let's meet next week for the drip feed.

But it's kinda getting to that point with both:

A) We have too much stuff and we just overlap each other with it

B) The atrocious dripfeed makes us buy the same crap just for the sake of buying it, because the gameplay certainly isn't getting any more interesting with those late updates

I enjoy looking at my car collection and thinking that I actually earned it, instead of being one of hundreds of thousands that got the same stuff gifted to me.

That being said, R* is really pushing it with the prices lately and the grinding at this point is horrid. I can barely play the game anymore if I have money making on my mind. Because, oh boy, I'm so excited to drive the same truck through the same checkpoints for a 100th time to get 10-20% of the desired vehicle's worth.

I'm all for games having micro transactions.

CSGO is a good example of how to make micro transactions work with out it effecting the core game. I'd like to see more games take this path as a minority of us no longer have the time to earn virtual cash to buy virtual items.

I'll be honest. I'd rather work for real life cash than virtual cash. Games such as GTA should be fun without the need to grind for weeks on end to buy in game content, such as cars.

It would pretty much become GTAIV multiplayer being an endless warzone in freeroam but allot worse. At least with money as the motivator you see people going about their own business actually doing things finally making the game somewhat resemble what the original online trailer promised.

Another downside is without money game modes apart from Deatchmatch and racing would be completely dead. As someone who enjoyed the earlier adversary modes I probably never would have got to experience them properly without the double cash incentives. The reason I know that for a fact is down to PVP missions which were pretty much adversary modes before advery mode being dead like a month after the online launched back in 2013.

Lonely-Martin

Gotta revisit, lol. But since my post on page 1, I've been very lucky in being able to hit bank heights I once only imagined as I was chasing the dream out there. :)

Because of that freedom of not having to consider earning along the way it has really seen me just benefit more and more in a couple of ways.

It allowed me the time/freedom to persist with all heist challenges, old and new, stuff I long wanted checked off too. (And found more luck as the DDH guys I was with are in the world record heists thread. Amazing experience!). But also, as I'm as ease with randoms, its easier to enjoy talking/working with others in hope of job success, but also to just simply not bother, try, or care if things get silly. I regularly pass up my cuts too, maybe a little now and then to top up of course. ;)

And for racing/versus modes, again, as I'm not thinking long term elsewhere with my game having many aspects, I'm free to just concentrate on that next car ahead to challenge without looking to keep position more for a more reliable pay out, lol. (Seems sad to write that, but early days we needed the wins for unlocks, needed the cash for competitive cars, so racing had more dynamics driving the gaming for me. A risky challenge on 1st, or a guaranteed 2nd, you know, lol).

All I'm after now is about 130 ranks, about 8m or so RP, then I'll be seeking memership into the legit rank 1k thread. (Not quite at crate grinding keen, but it's my plan B, lol).

Anyway, just wanted to say basically that I've really kind of experienced many games in GTA:O, and at times, they crossed into each other, lol.

Being free to just help/compete against people freely is awesome. But that said, I need folk to help/compete with or against of course. So having players chasing cash themselves is good for my game currently too. Still feel the games economy is ideal. (If economy is the best word).

5 years guys, blimey. :)

This game would have been so much better if R* were incentivized to focus on playability and great experience instead of monetization and recurring spending from the beginning. Imagine what could be achieved with all the talent R* had at their disposal, if the developers could actually work on making the game more fun instead of having to ensure that (1) players can't get too efficient at making money, and (2) there is a steady supply of cargo to destroy in public lobbies.

This wouldn't have to mean doing away with the in-game currency though, or de-emphasizing it. After all, money is the endgame for any self-respecting criminal. On the contrary, it would enable us to have gambling, a stock market, money transfers between characters, second-hand car sales, etc.: an actual in-game economy.

However, it would have probably been better if certain things were unlocked only through character progression, which would reward people for actually advancing in the game and not for the time spent on AFK and watching Facebook streams. I think that was supposed to be the case early on but then the rank system was essentially abandoned as it stood in the way of revenue, and selling RPs would have been too preposterous even for R*.

It's such a wasted opportunity that the development did not take a different direction but it's too late for that now: an alternate GTA Online is never going to happen, and the way things are, once you have enough money to get everything you want, you quickly realize there just isn't that much to do in the game anymore. If R* could no longer keep people busy grinding by making sure they never have enough cash, they would have to significantly up their game to make people stay. Otherwise, what I predict would happen is:

  • Nobody plays the repetitive and boring business missions anymore.
  • People discover some aspects of the game they never played because there was no money in it.
  • Lots of players flock to public freemode lobbies where all kinds of never-ending crazy fights ensue.
  • Everyone is having lots of fun, for a while, but if there is no new, genuinely entertaining content (which I believe R* is not capable of coming up with at this point), people lose interest in the game and abandon it.

Arrows to Athens

In IV, the only use money had was simply ranking up. There was a certain amount of cash required to rank up, and you would rack up cash by collecting loot from deceased foes, completing game modes (such as Cops n' Crooks, Turf War, Bomb Da Base II, Hangman's NOOSE), doing races, and doing deathmatches. There were ten ranks in total, and it would take a long time to rank up, considering there were only ten ranks to go through. You didn't buy vehicles; instead, you stole them off the streets. You couldn't modify them, either. You could obtain special already modified vehicles in certain locations of the map, like the Sultan RS. Weapons you didn't need to buy, either. You would either start out with one, or you would simply pick them up at their spawn points scattered around the map. Outfits would be acquired through level ups, and not necessarily through cash.

It was almost like the Purge. I liked it.

I wish the billionaire era was still a thing. I'm not the kind of person that wants everything handed to them, but I hate that online has become like a second job to me. I just want to be able to enjoy all the content thats produced. I have ignored so much from this game solely because "Well its fun, but how will it benefit me in the long run?"
