From what I'm hearing the games pre-load size is... 22gb. Sounds kinda small.

Still haven't pulled the trigger on it yet, gonna wait to see how it reviews first. The first two (leaked early, embargo lifts in like 10 hours from this post) gave it a 9.5 and a 5.0... so that doesn't tell us much lol.

I'm expecting a 84-87 from metacritic. At least the same quality as Horizon Zero Dawn and Spider-Man.

Correction, it's 35gb. Still relatively small compared to other AAA games these days, especially open world games. Wonder if it's just smaller than the average AAA game or it's got a lot of copy paste or something.

Oh sh*t, I just saw that... I'm a bit worried.

Please Nate Fox don't let this be another average game!

Embargo's up, anyone who predicted an average score of low to mid 80's looks to be onto a winner.

From glancing at a few reviews it sounds like it's a beautiful world with great combat but suffers from formulaic missions, open world tropes, camera issues and poor AI.

Currently sitting at 85 on OpenCritic with a lot of reviews still to come I imagine: https://opencritic.com/game/9592/ghost-of-tsushima

Hahahaha Gamespot says the game loses points for not being able to cut down bamboo, what a joke

Yep, just like I predicted, 85 for now. I'm happy with what I'm seeing so far.

I was worried it would get the Days Gone treatment (even though I really liked that game).

Poor AI is a bit of a concern, especially if it effects the stealth attacks and what not.

The game has instant fail stealth sections. So much for playing the game how you wanted to play then. Not sure why devs keep putting in sh*tty instafail stealth missions to be honest, they are, in all cases, garbage.

There's also a few reviews saying it's not really historically accurate or represents the world it's set in very well, which is a bit worrying.

Sounds like a very enjoyable game overall though, and while I criticise the open world content of games like Horizon, Spider-Man, AC etc, I do personally enjoy that type of content. Might have to pick this up.

The game didn't lose points for that, they're just memeing lol.

Yeah looks like if you go with the ghost approach (stealth) and do to much noice, the AI doesn't know what to do. Also the Japanese dub doesn't lip sync properly...

Yea I've heard that stealth makes up about 50% of your skill tree or something which is fine in theory as it's a big (supposedly mostly optional) part of the game but it apparently becomes a bit of an issue cause stealth is basically generic as all hell with all the same tricks games have been using for yonks (throwing stuff to distract enemies, etc) and the AI struggles hard with it.

Lot of comparisons to Assassin's Creed again in the reviews but once again I think it sounds like bog standard Sony formula. Horizon, Days Gone, TLOU, Ghosts and even bloody Spider-Man all rely on very similar mechanics for stealth. No creativity at all and when even the side content has the same issues in all those games you can't help but think that Sony's 1st party is making these games while reading from the game design notes or something.

They all seem to do the same things well - world design, visuals and combat but they all seem to suffer in the exact same areas.

Looks like the last PS4 exclusive manages to deliver. Beautiful ending to a beautiful generation.

Now to decide whether I buy this physical or digital.

Judging by today's gameplays and impressions it sounds like a decent game.

Gonna grab it once all DLCs are out and before switching to next gen... in a few years or so

a Hideo Kojima post.

The main thing putting me off pulling the trigger is the instant fail stealth only missions tbh, I absolutely abhor insta fail stuff like that especially when it's stealth only. I'm not a HUGE stealth person, I do use it but I like to mix it up and I like the option of going loud when I want.

I'm also enjoying the hell out of Rise of the Tomb Raider which I picked up cus free on PS+, so I'm not in a huge rush for something new yet.

Meh, apparently there aren’t many of those missions and honestly it doesn’t bother me that much anyway. RDR2 also had a lot of insta fail missions but it didn’t prevent me from massively enjoying that game. Quite the opposite.

Preordered my physical copy. This should be a good weekend :D

Dude the world is beautiful, the combat is smooth and realistic no arcade enemies like the new Assassin's Creed games, your attacks are lethal. I'm playing on hard and it's pretty balanced, using Japanese language and the lip sync it's not that bad.

Only gripes so far... the enemy AI on stealth could be better, TLoU2 really spoiled me in this regard same with the transition between cutscene and gameplay.

But regardless it's looking like one of the best open world games of this gen.
