Static
Figured you'd be on board for this @Jason since Ubi refuses to do a Japanese setting for AC. Plus, this is coming from SuckerPunch, which I don't think have even put out a bad game (maybe Second Son, haven't played). Compared to Bend Studios, who's last game before Days Gone was an Uncharted spinoff for Vita and their only notable games being the Syphon Filter series. TLDR; apples to oranges. Jason
Fair, and like I said I haven't seen anything recent of the game but Sony's 1st party right now, for their open world games at least, has been getting a little formulaic. I mentioned Days Gone but that felt more like the game that broke the camels back, so to speak. It was heavily criticised for open world tropes that games like Spider-Man and Horizon were built heavily on. To be more specific, it's more to do with side content than anything else. I'd rank Horizon and Spider-Man has up there as the best games of this generation but that is in despite of what is, for the most part, some bang average or just downright poor side content. As it's been mentioned I'll use it as an example, Odyssey obviously has a lot of the Ubisoft formula in terms of side content and open world content but it also had a whole bunch of good side quests whereas Horizon's side quests were... I mean, I don't remember a single one of them lol and Spider-Man's side content was pretty poor overall. It's more of a worry of something that might be the case rather than something I know is the case. I think it'll be a game I wait for the reviews for versus a game I'm chomping at the bit to play now (like Baldurs Gate 3). Static

Tsushima interests me because AC is dead (imo) and it looks like something close to what a samari japanese ac would be. I hope it fulfills the potential the era has. I'm hyped (and no I'm not going into it expecting AC) AC can go suck a fat one as far as I'm concerned. Jason
Read some stuff yesterday that started to turn my head towards this game. Supposedly it's very UI light, not even having waypoints, with the game instead going a more diegetic route using in-world landmarks for waypoints and things like that. I absolutely adore the idea of no minimap and very limited map usage in open world games these days, I die a little inside every time I see a minimap now, so GoT's approach to that alone makes me interested. TheSantader25
Literally AC in Japan. Better crafted though. Good enough for me. Though I'm still skeptical about the combat. Hope it's challenging and fun to learn new skills. Zello and Turan

The atmosphere looks really good, but the combat worries me. Reviews are gonna be interesting. TheSantader25

Jason
I've only just started watching todays footage but it started with the guy saying "we asked our selves how can we guide you through the open world in the most immersive and thematic way possible?" He then presses start and makes a waypoint on the map. So, not off to a good start. Edit: Looks really good overall, the combat looks great, but honestly I rolled my eyes when I saw him picking up sticks on horseback and using lures. Felt like there was a lot of Horizon Zero Dawn and maybe Assassin's Creed in there, my worry a while back about the side content being tropey hasn't been eased at all, in the fact opposite has happened. Buuuuuuuuuuuuut, that samurai combat looks oof. Soundtrack sounds amazing as well. I am very intrigued overall. Jabalous
Looks somewhat of a downgrade visual wise (i.e. lighting, textures quality, animations) than the older gameplay demonstrations. Edited May 15, 2020 by Jabalous
Mister Pink
I think Sucker Punch would do a much better, much or tasteful take on this setting than the cookie-cutter, asembly line stuff Ubisoft puts out. 14 hours ago, Jason said: I've only just started watching todays footage but it started with the guy saying "we asked our selves how can we guide you through the open world in the most immersive and thematic way possible?" He then presses start and makes a waypoint on the map. I didn't see it that way. It's not like another game where you take your eye off what you are seeing to look at a minimap. You follow the breeze. Or a animal will hint at something nearby or you can see a smokestack in the distance. All these things ensure you aren't taken out of the moment by looking and a non-environment HUD which I think is a beautiful way to design a game. You can decide not the consult the map and not set waypoints, and follow visual cues if you please or if you want to explore. But, if want to choose to go to a location you can set a way point and never to do you have to consult a HUD/Map but simply follow the breeze. I was very impressed by this game. It's the first game I've watched that's making me serious think about getting a PS4. The photo modes, the scenery, the ghost combat, the music, the blacka and white film-mode It was just ticking so many boxes. I love recommending TV shows or films to accompany games that are out or due to come out. Zatoichi (2003) staring and directed by Takeshi Kitano (Battle Royal) is a film about a blind swordsman. I remember catching this in the cinema when I hadn't a clue about Japanese film or films in general. I was a curious teenager that had too much time and seen all the films out around that time. So went and caught this. It's humorous, dramatic, fun. Nice to watch a few Samurai films in anticipation of this. Especially from one of Japan's legendary directors/actors. CGI is a bit whack though, lol Edited May 15, 2020 by Mister Pink KarimNTerr and DEADWOODZ 2 𝙼𝚄𝚂𝙸𝙲 𝙽𝙾𝙽 𝚂𝚃𝙾𝙿

The map thing I just found amusing more than anything tbh. The whole animals, breeze, whatever, guiding you to content is an interesting approach to exploration but, on the surface at least as I'd need to play it to find out, I'm not so convinced it's without problems. Being guided to secrets could potentially remove or hurt the feeling of true exploration, stumbling onto things through your own wits and will and not because the game guided you there from a distance away. We'll see, who knows what else the game has to find, maybe it does have secrets hidden away still. Personally I find exploration to be most enjoyable when the reason I go to a place is because of my own curiosity. Say, I see something interesting in the distance, so I go there, I search and explore the area without assistance, I find loot, story, whatever, on my own. That's what I enjoy, the feeling that I found this, not the game led me to this. The side content in general from what they showed doesn't inspire me with confidence either, simple go here, press X shrines, enemy camps, finding materials. There's a lot of Assassin's Creed comparisons going about on the web but I saw a whole lot of Sony 1st party formula in there. Horizon Zero Dawn, Spider-Man, Days Gone from what I saw (as I did not play it my self) and even to some extents, God of War, all felt like they were working from the same rulebook when it came to side content. None of the three games I played had what I'd call good side content, with GoW probably having the best, and just from that demo I'm seeing the same stuff here. The caveat here though is that the meh side content was attached to what were overall brilliant games and the rest of the game does look really good. I can't enjoy AC more than a few hours, as I think they're grindy and repetitive, so I don't really like the comparisons to AC. Haven't played any first party PS games so this looks new to me but can appreciate if you are starting to see formulaic content. Turan
They aren’t taking any risks with GoT and I can understand that. Days Gone was also fairly cookie cutter but it still performed well commercially. People are suckers for open world games with cinematic story telling. And I’m not ashamed to admit I’m one of those people lol. I’m expecting a 80-85 metacritic for this game IF there are no performance issues like Days Gone at launch. For a 90+ Meta score a game has to do something special. And so far I don’t really see anything special about it. The combat/stealth and the open world look good, but nothing really amazing.
