.dds compresed files

e know that a PED is usually composed of up to four or sometimes five files. With the following extensions:

Ped. dds

Ped. ydd

Ped. yft

Ped. yMT

Ped. ytd

Sometimes lack the archiv .dds in some peds.

To modify the textures, use files with the extension .dds (but compressed files), which have names like: uppr diff 001 c pak.dds (to give an example)

My question is the following:

1.- This compressed file .dds must replace, if it has the .DDS from ped original?

2.- or should I keep both files .DDS files

3.- I must modify its file name by "ped.dds"?

4.-that new DDS file should be located in the same place as the rest of the files? Using Open IV.
