Should I buy GTA IV?

I've been watching countless playthroughs of the game. Now that I have a computer that can run it, I'm considering buying it and experiencing the game for the first time. However, when ever I ask anyone's opinions on it, they always say "It's not worth it unless you play with mods". Is this actually true? Because the game actually looks really fun to play.

Do it, do it now! You won't regret it.

"It's not worth it unless you play with mods."

Bullsh*t.

Only underage GTA V fans think that. IV is the best game in the series.

The PC port of the game is not that good. You may encounter texture bugs and "GTA IV Fatal Error" problems. The controls in custom mapping also get reset.

You would mark many things "grainy" in it, like shadows, trees etc.

And the "Activation" Bug is the worst bug for PC.

All the best. But it is better to use it's console ports. They have no bugs at all.

I spend a couple of months with V, then I bought IV again and driving, shooting, and the whole experience felt like f*cking without condom for the first time in years.

Buy it.

Of course, if you've never played IV what the f*ck are you waiting for? It's way better than the overrated V.

I have never played the PC version, although I do own a sealed PC copy. There's something about the realism that actually makes sense. You will understand trust me, driving is alright but not the worst either. Rag doll physics are the best you are going to find out of the whole series only under RDR. The music stations are very well put together. Play without any aging bias. Take your time, You will enjoy it.

And yes, modding the game on PC is as good as playing casino.

If you mod it successfully, you may enjoy it well. BUT if not, you are screwing up the whole game. Mind that.

Yes, you should buy it.

GTA IV has a terrible ported PC so you could have couple bugs on game.

Even GTA 4 had better storyline than V's and more realistic pshycihs.

Buy GTA snore? I would never buy snore let alone pirating it lol

For you? Well since we have different taste, maybe you should buy IV. but remember, since you are buying for PC(and snore has horrible PC port) prepare yourself for:

1. Random crashing for unknown reason

2. FPS restricted to 1-24

3. And mod the game wisely because too many mod will crash the game

Not saying IV's port is great (because it's not) but where do you get this 1-24 fps restriction from? I play it fine on PC with 60 fps. Now, obviously it's not a stable FPS and I do get drops but there is no restriction to 24 fps. I also do not get random crashing either, at least not more than any other game.

I think if the add on stories graphics were in the main game it would be totally sweet. Like the Lost and Gay Tony missions. The city is so much sharper.

I guess if you just wanna cruise the city it's great, but if you wanna cruise the city via missions so you don't get bored after 20 mins, it leaves something to be desired.

I heard if you have the PC version with the expansions, it upgrades the graphics for you. But I could never get it to run on PC and I think without the analog sticks and pressure sensitive triggers, slumped in the couch, like on PS3, it would be a totally different game for me.

The graphics in the expansion on PS3 are awesome. It would be a totally different experience if the main game had those graphics.

Also it's a great game. I rate it above V.

It's not better than Sleeping Dogs, but it is longer to play, so in that sense, it could be better. But sleeping dogs is much more realistic ish and plausible, but feels very short.

Like a lot of GTA missions are Rambo where you survive impossible odds.

You won't be unhappy with it, even if they apparently intentionally downgrade the graphics.

Well you have to Forgive me then, because the last time I played IV it was 7 years ago, so it's either restricted to 24 or 30 fps

Definitely. It's got a great story(the best in the whole series if you ask me), and a very fitting atmosphere to it, although the gameplay is pretty barebones when we compare it to other games in the series.

If you enjoy it, you should try EFLC - it improves the gameplay aspect.

What a load of crap it is not restricted to 24 to 30 fps and it doesnt run as badly as people make out, its a lot more forgiving on hardware than some games i can mention. On release it was intended to run on windows xp which was only 32bit and max system ram was 4gb with 3.5 gb useable.

System specs where a 256mb graphics card and a recommended Amd x2 processor, any decent computer even a laptop can run gta4 well these days.

I agree that the port to pc could have been better but i think problems arise with speed and graphical glitches when people run it on a top spec pc, the game cannot handle running at maxed settings it was never desighned to run like that.

Ive run it on some really old systems in the past and if you turn down the graphics level it will run pretty well on most machines.

BTW if your going to sit there and call it GTAsnore f*ck off back to the 5 forum and as to saying Trevor would stomp on Niko's head your an asshole Trevor would be dead before he got near Niko, Trevor is a useless pointless character with nothing going for him like the rest of them in GTA5, GTA5 is a travesty and should be ashamed to be part of the GTA world its just a pile of sh*t.

Sorry bro, it either must have been your computer or the game when it first came out on PC. Cause current patch and 1.0.4.0 have both ran at 60 fps for me and it's been that way since I got PC version. Only GTA games restricted to 30 fps with frame limiter on is GTA 3, VC and SA. In SA's case, it runs at 24 fps unless fixed with silent patch. So I'm not trying to sound like a dick but that 24/30 fps sh*t you're touting is bullsh*t.

The game runs fine with todays computers, might get some drops but nothing that could harm the experience. It's also very stable (at the very least, on my end, but mind you that I have an old PC).

Having said this, buying not only GTAIV but the complete editon (+EFLC) would be the ultimate experience when it comes to HD GTA's, so yeah, go ahead and do buy it. Dont miss out the DLCs because they are too good IMO.

Sadly it is true, as there is not much to do apart from story missions. Just watch the story on YouTube. I would suggest you buy the Eflc instead as it has more content.

That only comes from kiddies who wanted their jetpacks and dumb fun. GTA IV is worth buying, its one of the best open world games ever with a fantastic open world that feels alive, a great story and great characters!

You forgot Vigilante, which was greatly improved upon from the 3D era version. Then there's the many various theft side missions from Brucie and Stevie, etc...

GTA V is the one that needs mods to be enjoyed. IV is a last-gen classic. Although, I have to parrot others in this thread and warn you that the PC version is not a great port. But if you're confident your PC can run it well then you should be fine.
