Mister Pink
I've locked the old one as there was no replies. Maybe some discussion can be had with this one. Also advised to generate discussion when starting topics via PM rather than just posting videos and links. Will leave this open to give a chance for the the OP to edit his post. We don't need an essay, just a short explanation about the game and your thoughts on it. El Dildo
for all the hype, this game was a failure, especially when compared to more recent Total Wars. I've played every Total War since the first Rome and I probably spent less time with Shogun 2 than I did in any of the other installments. gameplay is solid and the graphics are outstanding but it's just a really boring adventure. the problem is that feudal Japan is too 'small' of a world. the timeline is too short. there's just no difference between the different factions. if you played through Shogun 2 once you've played through it 100 times. doesn't matter which royal family you choose. the units are all the same. the tactics are all the same. the siege battles are all the same. regardless of which path you take towards the capital city, there's no variation in gameplay. it's just boring. It's true, this game lacked variety. It didn't bother me with ShogunI, when the series was new and exciting. In terms of art style, it was the best TW due to the narrow focus, and I would play Shogun II any time over that abomination called Rome II, which ruined the series for good for me. It was neat, and the most polished TW game since good ol' Medieval I. Fall Of The Samurai was also a very well received, which I have never played sadly. you already opened the same topic back in May of this year http://gtaforums.com/topic/888205-shogun-2-total-war/?hl=shogun to be honest: the game is old and outdated and not worth the price of 30.00 (Steam) compared to the newer titles It does have it's merits. It looks even better than the games they released later, in graphics department the series hasn't seen much improvement since, and they nailed the style really well in this game. Vanilla II Rome/Attila can look terrible at times, and the Warhammer games look quite poor for brand new games. In terms of gaphics/perfomance ratio, this blows any TW that followed after it out of the water. It looks good and runs like a charm, which can't be said about the performance eaters that came after it. And in terms of gameplay, the newer games suck compared to the pre Empire games anyway. I agree 30 bucks is too much for a game like this, this would be a good case for a sale. But this game would probably the best introduction for a complete TW beginner, especially if you don't have a beefy PC.
