From the official website:

Spintires: MudRunner is the ultimate version of the million-seller indie hit Spintires coming to PC and, for the first time, consoles. Like Spintires before it, Spintires: MudRunner puts you in the drivers seat and dares you to take charge of incredible all-terrain vehicles, venturing across extreme landscapes with only a map and compass as your guides!

A huge upgrade over its predecessor, this edition comes complete with a brand-new Sandbox Map joining alongside the original game's 5 environments, a total graphical overhaul, a new Challenge mode with 9 dedicated maps, 13 new vehicles, and other comprehensive improvements. Its not just an enhanced edition, its the ultimate off-road experience!

Drive 19 powerful all-terrain vehicles, each with its own characteristics and attachable equipment. These vehicles are designed to endure the most extreme conditions and terrains, but they're just the tools - only your driving skills will get them to the objectives!

Venture across extreme landscapes, with only a map and compass as your guides! Complete objectives and deliveries by enduring extreme conditions across wild sandbox maps with dynamic day-night cycles. Overcome muddy terrain, raging rivers and other obstacles that all realistically react to the weight and movement of your vehicle, powered by the game's advanced physics engine.

Spintires: MudRunner comes with a total graphical overhaul and advanced physics engine, along with countless improvements: new vegetation and mud interaction, improved differential lock systems, better soft-body tire simulation, enhanced water physics, and much more. The environment and your vehicles also constantly react to one another, rewarding your best manoeuvers and punishing any slip-ups.

Play Spintires: MudRunner with up to 3 other players in online coop, and complete your objectives as a team! Winch your friends out of raging rivers, push them free from a muddy rut, or help each other out when you cant get traction.

Save your progress and continue whenever you want, thanks to the introduction of multiplayer saves! Reach your goals together, or venture into the wild and fulfill a mission alone!

Download mods through the Steam Workshop on PC and enjoy an ever-evolving off-road experience. You will be able to share and download new content created by members of the passionate Spintires community, including new maps and vehicles that push the boundaries of the game even further!

To be honest, I tried the original Spintires once many years ago -a cracked version- and it kinda bored me. I have always preferred more traditional, speed-focused driving games, but I have to admit this is an original, brilliant concept, and now it gets renewed with some cool stuff like compatibility with gamepads, which might probably enhance the experience for me. I also have to mention that owners of the previous game get a 50% discount on this purchase, and they also claim that mods from the previous version will be compatible via a mod adapter. I might get it once it's released.

I will try a demo if it comes out, but for now it looks like a rip off. I have the original Spin Tires and played it for a while, from the trailers, and the information provided, there doesn't seem to be any game changing features or new game modes which would make it worth to buy the game again.

Fixes and new vehicles are nice, but everything else seems to be the same as before (I can't see this "total graphical overhaul" they're talking about for example).

I can tell a difference in the video I posted above, water physics are greatly improved. They looked like a bunch of jelly-made pyramids in the original game, as I recall. But I can see why players of the original might be reclutant to try this one.

Well, I got the game, played five hours and I have to admit it's really cool and challenging, but also frustrating at times. It's hard, even in casual mode. And I still haven't completed the first map. Tried to go through the bog in the first map... and I got stuck. Tried to rescue my truck with a bigger 8x8 vehicle... and I got stuck again. Lesson learned: stay away from the bog.

I am excited to try this game on Ps4. I had it on PC but wuite frankly I enjoy gaming on a pad from my couch on the TV better. Looks great too.

After some time playing on Casual I decided to start the first map on Hardcore difficulty and is not really much harder. Using the crane on the "Log Kiosks" was irritating at first but now is kinda addictive.

Here are some screens, they are all from the Island map with the D-535 truck.

A sequel? My understanding is that this is the same game, with sundry changes. Is that not true?

Keep in mind that The Witcher: Enhanced Edition, an improvement which--I'm not exaggerating--was a thousand times larger in scope, was naturally provided free to owners of the original release.

There was a little scandal related to the first game. Oovee, the publisher, took all the profits of the first game and did not pay the developer (Pavel Zagrebelnyj) in time. They wanted to keep the rights of the game and name for themselves and did not allow the dev to continue working on updates for it. They teased a console version back in 2014/15, something they never delivered. Pavel switched to Focus Interactive and he has been working on this new version ever since.

Keep in mind that The Witcher it's a AAA game. It has much larger studios behind it and they can afford to do stuff like that. Spintires: MudRunner, even though it's relatively popular -the original sold +1M copies- is nowhere near the numbers of a AAA game. According to Wikipedia, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt sold six million copies in the first six weeks alone. Also, because this new game -back to MudRunner- still uses the Spintires name, they have to pay royalties to Oovee for each sold copy.

@Nico

I'm not sure why you are talking about "The Witcher 3", when I am talking about "The Witcher" (2007), and its Enhanced Edition which was released a year later. The Witcher sold 1 million copies after 12 months, just like Spintires.

I urge you to research exactly what The Witcher: Enhanced Edition included (thousands of lines of re-recorded dialogue, just as one example) and then tell me with a straight face that you countenance a developer making a few slight changes to a game and reselling to original owners for $20.

It has both. External camera requires some time to get used to, is not a traditional orbital camera. FPV is kinda limited since there is no working mirrors.

Lead developer Pavel Zagrebelnyj just confirmed on the Focus Home Interactive forums that they're working on the possibility of implementing tracked vehicles into the game.

New update dropped today which includes a new orbital camera mode, and other features like being able to look out of the driver's window when reversing in first person view. I guess it's a quick fix before they actually implement real time working mirrors.

On January 23, Focus Home Interactive announced the first DLC for the game, "The Valley" which will be a free expansion coming this February.

From Steam:

a456372fb7c041ca1e3be255f2bd3af5d4247564

Hello all!

It's now been just over two months since Spintires: MudRunner launched, and it's our absolute pleasure to announce the first DLC for Spintires: MudRunner, The Valley.

We currently plan for this first DLC to release in February. It will be a free content update. This first DLC will include brand new content for the game, in many different forms. Firstly, it will introduce a brand new map, also called The Valley, which is a very large heavily forested map. Similar to Deluge in the base game, you will start outside of a garage, and will need to claim one for yourself.

In addition to a brand new map, we will also be introducing three new powerful vehicles. These three vehicles can be used on any map, provided you have enough progression points unlocked. Like for other maps and their specific vehicles, you won't have to spend points to use these vehicles in The Valley.

There will be the A-969, a powerful 4x4 vehicle, specially adapted to the heavily forested terrain of The Valley.

5e8de5075e080825c63a31d44413726e408d2446

The C-6317, a six-wheeled truck able to sport a wide arrangement of add-ons.

3cf371f6633f0a163ca75eae35795c8a297776f8

And the E-7429, a very large 8x8 truck with a special hidden talent.

2754badbd702890ece4408d8f05487b625ae274a

We'll have more information on each of these vehicles in the lead up to release, in weekly vehicle presentations and factsheets once again.

Not only will there be new vehicles and a new map in The Valley, but there will also be eight new addons.

These are as follows:

C-6317 Spare Wheel

A-969 Spare Wheel

A-969 Fuel Canisters

A-969 Garage Parts

A-969 Utility Attachment

E-7429 Advanced Trailer Hitch

E-7429 Repair Kit

E-7429 Garage Semi-Trailer (Also compatible with the E-7310 from the base game)

Medium log trailer (compatible with some trucks from the base game)

For the modders out there, there will be some more assets for you to play with when making your maps and vehicles!

These are:

E-7310 trailer hitch

A broken tree asset, which is currently only used on the The Valley

A dirt road terrain overlay type, which is also currently only used on The Valley

Players will be able to muck around in The Valley as soon as the DLC is installed, so if you've just got the game, and not finished other maps, don't worry! You can get stuck into The Valley all the same.

Your goals on The Valley will be similar to classic maps, unlocking other garages and lumber mills around the map.

We look forward to sharing you more about the DLC as time goes on!

09640a498ec86b9811f210405cd27527947193e9

That's not all, though! In addition to this new DLC news, we'd like to say that we plan on doing a monthly community update for you all, sharing what we're working on, and introducing some cool things that we've seen from the community.

Talk to you soon!

I'm currently near the 100 hour mark on this game, having a blast. Support for custom maps has been added recently to Steam Workshop, which gives this game a lot of replayability with new lands to explore.

Some screenshots from my current game, on a custom map:

I love this game, offroading with big trucks hauling lumber.    You get some interesting challenges sometimes.

Anyone else playing Snowrunner yet? I've been playing most of the day today. I forgot how peaceful and relaxing driving incredibly slow through half flooded landscapes can be.

My quick and very early review is that it's essentially the same game as Mudrunner just bigger, prettier, and with more stuff to do. So far so good.

I played a ridiculous amount of hours yesterday and even when I got off I didn't want to but had stuff to do. So much to do anyway I won't complete it anytime soon even playing all day.

A few issues but overall it's been fun.

I wasn't going to purchase it full price, then remembered Epic had a holiday sale voucher that ran out next week, so I have it now for a tenner off.

I'm going to enjoy it too, the original was fun, but a bit repetitive with the goals, this time there seems so much more to do.

I kinda did the same thing. Remembered I still had some old Xbox gift cards and ended up springing for the Deluxe Edition. I kinda regret it. Loving the game, but at the pace I'm going, the season pass content will all be released and on sale before I even finish the base game content. Been playing for a few hours every day and I still haven't even driven in snow yet.

My only real problem so far is that their doesn't seem to be enough daylight. It might just be my mind playing tricks on me and maybe it's an even split but the nights seem to drag on forever. Especially early in the game before I upgraded the headlights in most of my vehicles.

I drive in twilight but not too keen on the full dark, so what I do is, open up your map and down the bottom should be a button to skip time (Y on xbox). I always skip until 6am or 1pm.

I remember playing Spintires when it first came out as a beta years back. I didn't play much of it and gave up on it. Got Snowrunner the other day, I haven't been able to put it down. The peacefulness and relaxation of just driving through a muddy landscape is good, I lose track of the time pretty f*cking easily playing it, but love the challenge of having to winch yourself out, or get another vehicle or player to help you. Also the detail, the last game to give me the feeling to really take in the small things was GTA IV, from the colours, the landscape, the way if you drive over a stick it will break it in half, the airtanks on the truck releasing and causing the 'poof' of the air, amazing. It's a beautiful game and I'm hooked. Perfect considering I don't game like I used to so can just kick back and plow hard up the dirt road.

Unlocking the Michigan maps is probably the best way to start as you'll be out exploring for the upgrades as well.  With a bit of work and levelling, the Fleetstar F-2070A becomes very capable and all the upgrades, bar the tires, are reachable on the first two maps of Michigan.

If you're 'new' to the game mechanics, it's best to just go to the map and advance time until it's day again.  If you have to run during the night, try to find a vehicle setup that carries extra lights in it's options and always scout ahead before driving a new route in a bigger truck.

-------------

Exploring the maps are great currently (I don't have the Season Pass yet, so I'm missing the OP Scout Jeep from it), but I am missing the hardcore modes from Mudrunner, disabling the opportunity to recover and advance time at will.  I'm already trying to drag and tow the vehicles stranded on the maps, rather than just reaching them and switching to them to recover them.

Hardcore mode also stops the strategy guides from working into their tricks for buying a better truck early, since you always need a second truck to recover stricken vehicles and act as a refueling and repair point.  The Devs have said a Hardcore mode is coming, so it'll add to the complexity later.

That's about what I've been doing. I upgraded my scouts first and have pretty much just been using them the past few days to roam around the maps. I have my Scout 800 hauling a fuel container, my Chevy pickup hauling materials and whatnot to clear roads and fix bridges, and I use my Marshal to go grab the harder to reach upgrades and watchtowers.

I finally gotta flatbed and some all-terrain tires on my Fleetstar before I quit for the night yesterday so I might re-add that to my fleet as well.

Nah, I'm not new but I did spend the first few days skipping time a helluva lot. If anything I found the night, and not being able to see much of anything, made the map feel kinda dead and boring at first. Now I've been going back and forth on the same road in the Dam map so many times that the constant change in lighting keeps things feeling "fresh".

-----------------

The more I play and the deeper I get into it the more I'm loving the strategy required. I love that there's less and less resources the deeper you get into a region. I've only explored Michigan so far but going out into the last two maps where there's no garages or warehouses and you have to constantly drive all back across a map and a half to get supplies really helps sell the long haul trucker vibe.

Then there's the strategy of buying fuel container trailers, deciding where to put them, when to move them, what trucks you want to use to do all that with, etc.

One thing I hope they add in a future update is a few more character models. It's a small thing but I think it'd be cool if each of our trucks had a different driver. So that we don't just have a fleet of trucks but a fleet of truckers. And that we it doesn't feel like we're just magically teleporting everytime we switch vehicles.
