Do anyone think online might get loot boxes?

Well since every aaa dev is putting them in their games more than last year. This begs the questions would r* actually follow this route and put a loot box system where you would get unlocks or perks or boosts.

Maybe not this gta but next one I can see and rdr2 as well

How do they work?

Lootboxes?

It's like gambling. The more you pay the chances u get goodies.

Forza,Star Wars, shadow of war,ac.cod. They all have this system now In placed.

Started with overwatch and ppl saying oh it's "cosmetic" doesn't effect gameplay.....well lookie now.

All jokes aside I can genuinely never see them doing this. It doesn't seem like it'd suit their "DNA" at all.

The only thing I can think is maybe because cash cards mean money can sometimes be real, it might possibly interfere with gambling laws. But I don't know anything about that; I just hear that brought up whenever the casino's discussed.

Other than that I don't see why not though.

Tell that to take 2 and their greed adding loot boxes to every game that came out this year from them. Nba and lol there's in loot boxes in wrestling games.

^ Talking more about Rockstar and not Take-Two. Plus, with the cash cards system they already have in effect, I don't see them tinkering with its success in any way by adding more ways to pay for in game items with real money.

Battle Royale is not original to pubg... a lot of things are "copied" or inspired by older things.

They have these in the game "Prominence Poker" as well; essentially you earn them from competing in and winning certain tournaments, high stake cash games, or by simply ranking within a certain bracket at the end of a season. There are certain tiers of loot boxes that are offered; you can pay a virtual fee to upgrade each individual one (with the price increasing as you advance) in hopes that it contains something rare and more worthwhile.

I don't know, I suppose it could work for GTA, but what should they offer? Rare clothing? Money? RP boosts for a certain amount of days?

f*cking EA had this loot box system that wasn't a "cosmetic only" one.

The gaming industry better crash if anti-consumer practices like this prevail.

Loot boxes in Online? As in, taking regular in-game items, and locking them behind a randomised unlock system where the only means of getting boxes is grinding... ...unless you pony up some real-world cash instead (and that's still no guarantee you'll get what you're actually after) - ?

The price hikes and exclusionary, narrow focus of updates are both bad enough, but at least in theory I can just earn the in-game currency and buy the thing I want guaranteed - imagine grinding for ages, only to spend that money on a box which ...winds giving you junk, not the thing you actually wanted.

Loot boxes are a terrible idea in general, IMO - GTAO's got enough problems it could do with reversing, not heaping on more bad design/business decisions...

At least it's probably too tall an order for R* to retroactively graft them on to GTAO - but yeah, I worry about RDR2's online mode, and future takes on GTAO (and I was already worried enough about those, given the current state of Online... :/) Edited by Commander S

Oh hell f*cking yes. They're way too greedy not too. Then you'll see the usual suspects here defending it like shills.

Wasn't the research system in Gunrunning sort of like loot boxes if you fast tracked it? Spending 225k to unlock an upgrade right away but you never knew which one you'd get.

Yeah no, fk that lmao

Loot boxes absolutely not. Bad enough microtransactions are in a $60 game. We don't need the gambling that is loot boxes. I hope loot crates get regulated for being gambling for a chance to get an item you want. They even spin the items like a slot machine. People think they started with overwatch. Hate to break it to you your late to the party.

Loot boxes and the bs research that is gunrunning are separate things. At least you don't get repeats of items like you do with loot boxes and some of there single use bs.

Yeah I would hate to see Gunrunning's research system be repeated or built on in any sort of way. It was just shameful, regardless of whether you fast tracked it or not. Almost as bad as shark cards, dare I say.

No.

Items of whimsy are not covered by any gambling laws of any country that I know of - and I've done the necessary research,

P.S. Don't mention the C word ;)
