Is RDR 2 releasing date the end of GTA Online... Or maybe they will keep it updated until Bully 2?

Game already dead with close to zero support cost. Does it rly matter if they add more sh*tty content or not?

It's been said a thousand times before but, GTA Online is not GTA5 Online. GTA Online will continue into IV. Do you really think that R* will just scrap everything they've built and given us and just start all over again? Expecting us to grind for the same cars and clothes and weapons all over again?

No. They won't.

Guaranteed our characters, cars, etc will carry over. Obviously new apartments will need to be bought because it'll be a new city. But to start from scratch where vehicles and stuff are concerned makes no sense.

I disagree; it would hurt their potential profits if they let players transfer money, cars, etc to the next instalment of GTA online. As you know, GTA IV had an online segment and nothing from it carried over to GTA V's realm. The last I heard, the servers were still online too; I'd imagine that when GTA VI is released, the servers for GTA V will continue going as well (but with no updates in either additional content or security). I just do not see them re-opening the ability to transfer your character and assets to a brand new game - especially one that will run with upgraded graphics, design, mechanics, etc - despite the continued DLCs, GTA is still an aged (2013-2014) game and I would imagine that GTA VI will look and feel quite different in more ways than we can possibly imagine at this time.

Do I really think that Rockstar will scrap everything they have built here? No, but it will continue to exist only within the GTA V online servers until they decide to shut down in the seemingly distant future. Rockstar isn't going to just let everything they've added here live on and on and on forever within every direction they decide to take their multiplayer concept. That is what wouldn't make any sense!

However I welcome the notion of starting over within a new location with new cars, new clothes, new weapons, new character customisation options, and so on and so forth. If, by some random chance, they do decide to continue building onto what they've made here from here on out, consider me completely uninterested. That would be dreadful - we don't want all of the stuff that has been added here to be included in GTA VI's online segment. It would be an overloaded clusterf*ck of epic proportions!

STARLORD-1480

"That's wishful thinking. I highly doubt we'll cross over into VI with our characters and stuff. Stop listening to Youtubers like MrFailFTW"

Literally never watched a "MrFailFTW" video. I don't take credence in any third party information.

4 years later on this incarnation of online and we're still getting new vehicles. Do you honestly think that we'll be dripfed the same things all over again?

They can't and won't expect us to get excited over the release of vehicles that we already have. We're into our 4th year of GTAO and we're still getting new stuff. Do you really think that after the 4th year of the next incarnation that we'll just be getting the same stuff?

It doesn't make any sense.

R* need to be, and will be, moving forward with Online. To start from scratch is a huge step backward.

@-LN- Sure nothing carried over from IV, and that's because it wasn't considered GTAIV online. It was Multiplayer. A completely different thing. We didn't have our own vehicles or weapons or anything. Whatever we needed, we had to pick up in every session. Not the same thing as Online at all. So of course nothing carried over. Because we didn't have anything to cross over.

Snip.

If they let us take all of our cars, planes, etc...what exactly are they going to come up with for us to buy next? What about all the modded accounts and glitched money? There's no way they're going let that stuff transfer again. There's way too many players with a lot of money, legit or not, that wouldn't even consider buying a shark card if you can transfer it.

lol they are not going to carry everything over in to the next game. That's not even slightly realistic. We are going to start over, if you think otherwise you are kidding yourself.

Well, I've nothing else to say on the matter. You think this. I think that. I'm not gonna argue.

What would exactly be the point of having heists etc. in the next game, if we could transfer all of our money from current online.

Even if they stop with updates end of the year. We have really a lot of content now. 90% of our wishes has been implemented. Everybody who is getting bored is because he wants to get bored. Just play the game as long as you want to.

I will play GTA V till GTA 6 is released and this scares me more than R* stopping to add contant because GTA 6 will start probably with less vehicles and contant than GTA Online at its end. All my loved vehicles gone. What a shame.

due to the continued success of Grand Theft Auto Online and other factors, the Company has determined that it is necessary to extend the life of Grand Theft Auto Online

confirmed by two take http://ir.take2games.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=86428&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=2291171

Yes, but no where have they mentioned how long this 'extension' will last. I recall Yan saying once that I/E was supposed to be the last but then their plans changed to ending the game's lifetime in spring 2017. Here we are in fall and they're dripfeeding Smuggler's Run. However, there's no mention of another big update before the end of the year. Things are already starting to slow down. Updates will either completely stop before the release of RDR2 or a bit after. Also to respond to the OP: I don't think we're going to get Bully 2 after RDR2. I'm not saying it's impossible but my guess is they'll immediately move on to VI.

yes there is mention of update. The last newswire stated that more weaponised vehicles are coming along with new properties to own. No details but we know we are going to continue to receive updates.

TBH, GTA Online needs to end at least for the PC. The mod program use and abuse is out of control, i really cannot fathom how and why Rockstar continues to have Shark Cards when this is still going on. Either fix the problem or shut it down and try again with better coding.

If Rockstar was smart they would split off GTA Online into its own stand alone MMO and still release GTA single player games as normal. This would allow GTAO to survive longer than the spawn between GTA titles and would not suffer from playerbase loss every time a new iteration of GTAO came out.

This would only work if Rockstar could get their sh*t together and have their netcode bulletproof.

Why on earth should they do that?

The way they are currently doing it makes them a hell of a lot more money and allows them to improve and restart their systems with every new GTA iteration.

We Are Ninja

I'm getting sick of all this "the end" stuff...

Rockstar said they will continue to release updates.

People have been talking about the end of GTA and the "final DLC" since the Beach Bum update, LOL. It's been the cool, edgy thing to say for YEARS. As long as this admittedly old game keeps generating ridiculous profits, R* is going to keep it running. Anything else wouldn't make sense from a financial standpoint.

If I'm being honest though, R* has botched/unbalanced the GTAO formula so badly at this point, it wouldn't bother me if they stopped updating it (which they won't). I'm lowkey curious to see how much worse they can screw things up.

Focus will be on RDR2 big time, but I don't believe they'll abandon GTA Online completely. I think there's quite a number of people in the GTA community that isn't drawn to RDR nor do I believe that its online version is going to be as popular as that of GTA.

I think support for this game is going to continue till the next GTA. Ending it while profit is being made from microtransactions doesn't make sense.

This. I also enjoy the game and I do not want updates to end. So glad that they won't. Even if sometimes the things they release make me shake my head.

The thing is everyone on the planet that want's to play GTA IS playing GTA. If 6 was released in 5 or 10 years from now then fair enough they will have enough new players to justify no transfer. But right now? who's going to play a new game without transfer after spending 4 years collecting stuff for this game. I can't imagine anyone would do that. If they let you transfer they will automatically sell 50 million copies of 6 on release. It's a pretty strong incentive to allow transfers imho.

All the transfer talk when rockstar literally stopped character transfers from oldgen to next gen for the same game. Next game they won't let us transfer our character data to it.

Why does everyone think the game Rockstar North is making is bully 2? that's completely illogical since it's not their game. The only games Rockstar North have made in recent history is GTA and Manhunt, it's one of those.

You aren't looking at the complete picture, do you think they spend all day, all night and weekends patching glitches to save this game? when no one who participates in glitches has ever or will ever buy a shark card?. They do that to protect the future game, same reason they banned transfers from broken systems.

Nobody knows about transfers.

Rockstar stated a while back that transfers would be possible between GTA Online and it's next incarnation.

Rockstar included transfers for old gen to current gen.

Rockstar removed the transfer options for old gen to current gen.

The future is unclear.

However, the removal of transfers from og to cg could most likely be due to the number of modded accounts coming across from X360/PS3 to XBone/PS4.

People would play GTA Online 2.0 regardless of which way it goes. Sure, lots would complain but nobody would really back up their threats of "I'm not playing unless I get my old stuff".

It's more about not wasting my time twice. Either with a transfer I doubt I'd play it more than very casually. But with a transfer I'd buy it. Without it.. no chance.

So you don't want to play a new game? You want to start at the end, when you have everything?

How is progressing in a game wasting time? Isn't that the whole point of playing the game?

A new game that takes 20 hours sure. One that takes 4 years.. no chance. With big online games you choose your game and that's it. No one has a long enough life span to play multiple games when you are talking time frames like that. 4 years is half the entire prime of the human life span.

Shadowfennekin

We better be able to keep our rank at least. I mean the cap is 8000.... why that high if we can't continue our characters? Rank doesn't mean anything post 120

I don't want to start over entirely. If I ever reach 1000, and I'm not allowed to bring that over.... I'm gonna be a sad fox.

I know money and cars are a long shot. I'm actually hoping jets aren't in the next game at all.

I don't plan on playing RD2, first one bored me to death and I think there's many people out there who won't be playing it either. GTA is top sh*t, and Rockstar knows it. GTA is probably funding RD2 and Bully 2 right now, they would have to be complete morons to stop updating GTA and they know that too. My guess is the updates will seize or slow down once GTA VI is announced or getting close to it. That's really the only logical answer to this overly asked question, and I could still be wrong.

You'll still buy it and play it regardless of transfer status. Bookmark this post for future reference.

Bookmark it all you want, the decision has been made on my side, I'm sure it's been made on rockstars end too. Lets see how it plays out, it doesn't bother me at all which way it goes because I know where this game went and I know where the next one will go too and I'm just not that interested. There's ZERO and in no chance at all I'm investing/wasting my time in it again, I'm just not that stupid to be fooled twice, I will admit to being fooled once (for a shorter time than most at least :) )
