greenrock
Rockstar has mocked both right wingers and left wingers in past gta games but i don't remember much lampooning of the left in V i know there was a good amount of right wing lampooning does anyone remember any moments of any GTA V satire against the left
Good Hombre
Sue Murry The Campaign's Changes Raise income tax on the wealthiest to 82.5 percent including myself.Impose a maximum wage on bankers and CEOs, including my ex-husband.Ban plastic water bottles, shopping bags, disposable diapers, non-recyclable prophylactics and take out containers.Reach out to liberal celebrities to get them involved in politics and / or swinging parties.Children are our future and half of them are in prison. ViceOfLiberty
R* needs to be careful not to get carried away with the satire. It was meant to be a more underlying ambient thing to fill in the virtual world with. More of a passive thing.. but it seems that not only R* but also fans have been pushing to make GTA some kind of little political and social allegorical parody... It just adds to the corn imo. Dryspace
One thing that I noticed is that, if you actually pay attention, the satirizing of the left (yes, there's a good deal of it, which was refreshing) is mostly based on reality--on actual things that leftists do and say. But the satirization of the right is not really a satirization of the right--they are making fun of people that don't exist and beliefs that people don't have--at least in the world in which I live. Straw men, in other words. Perhaps it helps if one is neither a Democrat nor a Republican, but it seems to me one would have to be a pro-level reality denier to actually believe that a lot of the people and positions characterized as 'right-wing' actually exist. dyspoid
I think the way that Rockstar uses satire in their titles is more of a dig at the political system in general, as opposed to an insult to either side.

Dryspace
@Piggsy pls In a way, I would say you are right. Many of the characters in GTA, such as the radio guests & hosts, speak plainly what they are thinking instead of concealing their true beliefs and agendas like politicians in reality. And of course it is funny when the behaviors and beliefs of GTA characters are over-the-top, and even funnier when they mirror those that actually exist. As one who does not support the Republican or Democrat parties, I find an elected official who actually speaks his mind, who makes his positions clear instead of maintaining a carefully crafted image designed to deceive, who speaks extemporaneously instead of reading from a TelePrompTer, etc. very refreshing. We certainly need a lot more of that. Good Hombre
universetwisters
I dunno tho, like in both IV and V they seem to have made fun of the right more than they do the left. This listing on TVtropes sums IV's case up perfectly: While there's satire on both ends of the political spectrum, most of it is aimed at the right wing of American politics, with the animated show Republican Space Rangers, the right-wing "Family Values" mayoral candidate and closet case Bryce Dawkins, and the talk radio station WKTT, hosting expies of Rush Limbaugh and (in the expansion packs) Alex Jones. The game did take several jabs at left-wingers (most notably with the NPR-esque radio station Public Liberty Radio, and its assorted hosts and guests), but they were relatively fewer in number. So even though Rockstar does make fun of both sides of the political spectrum, if you want to go by the numbers they've done it to the right more than they've done to the left. GeorgeCostanzaTheMovie
That's just how it is in any piece of mainstream media. There's always been an obvious left leaning bias in almost everything from TV shows, movies, stand-up comedians, and video games, while boasting as being politically impartial. It is what it is. I don't really consider myself a Republican or Trump supporter, but if the elites of our society are going to shame people like me for not clapping like a seal every time they shove a straw man down my throat when I just want to play a shooter, they can at least admit that they're biased. Dryspace
@GeorgeCostanzaTheMovie I would never support the modern Republican party, but I could definitely support Trump. Anyone my enemy wants to annihilate is a friend of mine.
Piggsy pls
^While I think Donald Trump is a greaseball, I'll agree that he at least is honest about his views, even if I don't agree with them. I mainly compare him to a GTA parody for that reason, too. I also have to agree that Rockstar has a left-leaning bias in their games. It doesn't bother me, but it's very clear to see, and it's not just with GTA, but in their other games/franchises as well. They're definitely more critical of right wing viewpoints than the opposite. I'd say this is due to the fact that the Housers are British, and often what's considered "leftist" in the U.S. would be considered moderate in the U.K., and many other countries for that matter. Good Hombre
I also have to agree that Rockstar has a left-leaning bias in their games. You can say that about Ubisoft, now Rockstar I'm not so sure. Brian_O_Malley
Piggsy pls
I also have to agree that Rockstar has a left-leaning bias in their games. You can say that about Ubisoft, now Rockstar I'm not so sure.Rockstar is more subtle with it (or used to be) than Ubisoft, but the bias is there. GTA V is really the only game they've made where they satirize the left anywhere close to as much as they do the right. Like UT pointed out above, IV was almost exclusively making fun of the right. highspeed
If you take your time, within the game there is a lot of small mockeries of various groups. Their content, hilarity and mockeries I've always found to be like easter eggs. They are there, you just have to find them. Some are obvious, some aren't. My personal favourites: - the Episolon cult, the tongue in cheek jokes, puns and outright bashes at celebrites of the scientology "religion". Reminds me of the South Park episode that they did featuring the same humor and wit. - Denise and her friends "fake jogging". Haha, I see these type everyday. Never thought I'd see posers in the walking/running game, but sure enough every morning I see real life Denise's running in place, normally chanting "LET'S start the morning, can't be yawning, yes we can hear you snoring. Wake up now, let's blow this town!!!" Haha, I kid you not. Living this, and seeing it in real life is a trip. And I'm in Australia, I can't imagine living in LA! Straight up nuts. Dryspace
As I said earlier, there is a problem with Rockstar making fun of imaginary right-wing people and beliefs, but that is because the "right wing" that the Democrat party demonizes doesn't actually exist. At the same time, to anyone whose eyes are open, it is clear that Rockstar makes fun of many aspects of leftism, large and small, that most people would never touch. I was actually astonished at first. Pro-establishmentarianism is increasingly the norm. Edited October 13, 2017 by Dryspace
