Question About Helicopter Controls

I've been playing this game since it first came out on Xbox 360... and it just occurred to me that I could hold R2 & L2 together while flying a helicopter. Same with the bumpers (L1/R1, controls yaw).

However... I'm not even sure it does anything. I did a bit of searching but only found a few results, one person said holding both bumpers makes a heli more stable, and another person said holding both triggers makes it descend smoother. But I'm not sure that's true. I can't tell the difference between holding the analog stick forward and both triggers down vs. just holding the stick forward without either trigger held. It looks like I'm descending at the same speed, and at the same angle.

Anyone know if either of those actually do anything? Any other tricks with helicopters that most people don't know about?

I'll have to try that out, but if it actually did I'm sure you would have noticed.

Try it while hovering still for best results. I'd try it right now but I'm not on the desktop.

I tried these back in last gen and there was no difference in stability for me, heli was still prone to turbulences, though that was a couple of years ago.

I've seen people say holding both bumpers is "hover mode" but that's BS imo, no different to letting go of everything.

I'm always surprised how few people know you can cycle lock-on targets with the bumpers so yeah that's my sekrit tip.

Yeah I think one cancels out the effect of the other.

If you're in a P996 Lazer jet, for example, you can sit still on some flat and level ground, with the afterburner at full, just by holding LT and RT all the way. Might look cool, but that's about it. It may make some lower-speed manoeuvring more easily done, because if you're in the air, you could constantly tap RT whilst holding LT to constantly bring your speed down without stalling the engine - but I think I prefer to just gradually increase pressure on the LT anyway.
