Question reguaring GTA 5 single player mods?

ive just purchased GTA 5 with 8M sharkcard on steam with the 60% sale, and wanted to know what do I do with mods if I wanted to play online? do I just remove them all from my documents folder and move them somewhere on my computer? im new to gta 5 on pc and not sure what I do with them. I dont want to risk not removing them all then I get a ban and a charater wipe.

You should move the entire game folder from steam and reinstall fresh.

That way you will have a clean version and a dirty version + rename them respectfully

If your PC allows you to have 2 copies of GTA at the same harddrive, then use one copy for Online and another copy for mods. And just switch between them when you feel like playing SP/Online.

OpenIV, the tool for installing mods, has a "mods" directory where it will copy the files that has to be tinkered with. It leaves the original files untouched, as backupping and restoring them before playing Online would be too much hassle.

 

OpenIV has a feature to turn mods on and off by flipping a switch. Basically you don't need to uninstall mods and in Online the modified files aren't touched.

 

You have to always mind to switch mods off when you go Online.

 

Forgive me rambling, but it seems the fellow users above suggested rather radical methods to handle mods, due to little experience with them. We could have a little "how-to" or Q/A pinned somewhere, because many new Online PC players have the same question about mods.

#1: you don't have to keep 2 different copies of it. It's 70gb ffs.

#2: everything you do stays in the mods folder, ScriptHook and the otheres are moved to another folder.
