***BEWARE: This thread contains gruesome scenarios that may frighten/disgust some readers. Please read at your own discretion. Not for younger viewers!***

This is an interactive story with multiple routes alongside a mindset system to decipher what type of person you are as well as what fate awaits you. Let yourself get submerged into the world created, largely inspired by GTA:Online.

This game is not for the lazy. At 28,407 words and 23 endings with various ways to reach some endings this is a massive project. Months have been poured into this and I'd appreciate if members took, at least, a quick 15 minutes out of their day to give this game a try. Those that enjoy it can try to reach as many endings as they can. Those that don't then I understand - it's not for everyone.

The game is played using Twine, an HTML engine that is easily accessible and versatile. A forum version with multiple spoiler tags was planned but it was deem too long of a post by the forum, which required three PM's to store. The Introduction and other information below the screenshots are included in the game. They are added here as a refresher or a first look at what this is all about.

You can download the game from Google Onedrive or MEGA. This is HTML, you only need to download the link - nothing else!

A Google Documents version is available for those not wanting to download anything.

Issues playing on mobile? Much thanks to Amy Vinewood for showing how to play!

Please come in, kindred spirit. Curiosity got the best of you and you just had to see for yourself. The title of my caravan caught your eye or you found no other tent to go in and talk about your opinions. No matter, welcome to my realm. Please take a seat. I must warn you that this is no ordinary caravan. Your wits will be tested, your perseverance will be challenged, and most of all your understanding of the world you know disregarded and replaced.

Do you believe in fairy tales? What if I told you this was one? What if I told you that, willingly or not, you are now part of that fairy tale? You're the main character and the spell was conjured the second you opened the door. You're bound to my every word - unable to escape - so relax and let the stress disappear. You are about to face an experience like no other....

My Ball of Infinity, or magic ball as you frivolous mortals refer to it, will lead you on an adventure. You will be given choices and all actions you take will lead you on varied paths. You can be a predator or a prey, an active target or a simple witness. How you deal with situations is all up to you...within certain choices, of course. It wouldn't amuse me if you had free will, now would it?

The "game" is simple: you'll be presented with a situation and you'll pick a choice listed. Legend says that those who complete their adventure will be rewarded with Power, Fortune or even Immortality. We'll begin shortly as there are a few rules to go over. I simply can't throw you to the wolves without telling you how to fight them! Stare into the abyss of my Ball of Infinity for further instructions...
======================================================================================================================
GJL3GFQ.png

My game has a score system which is entirely optional. You can ignore the score system if you prefer to keep your sanity and just enjoy the adventure. For those that want a challenge, please keep reading...

The score system will give you colored numbers like the following:

CHOICE 1 - Do nothing. (0)

CHOICE 2 - Defend yourself. (+4)

CHOICE 3 - Attack enemy. (-3)

There will typically be a neutral score while negative and positive scores will only appear if it's a player-driven action (or if the choice relates to good/evil). Players who tend to cause chaos and relish in the screams of their foes will want a negative score, the more negative it is the more evil you tend to be. On the other hand, players who enjoy making friends and band together should aim for a positive score, having a high positive score is for those that are typically non-threatening. Those who keep to themselves or who experience both sides of the law should have a neutral or a low negative/positive score. Your score should then be posted alongside your story, to which an overall leaderboard will be done. It will tell us who is the most evil, who is the most charitable and who tends to stick in the middle.

If you want to be included in the forum leaderboard you must post all your actions/moves so that I may recreate them to ensure your score is correct. Any who do not display their choices will not be included in the leaderboard. Those that complete the game more than once may only post one score.

Please use a spoiler tag to put your actions/moves in as to not spoil the game for others!

LEADERBOARD:
-50 God Of War
-40 Gatekeeper To Hell
-30 Wicked Demon
-20 Devilish Imp
-10 Fallen Angel
0 Common Townsfolk
+10 Redeemed Demon
+20 Kind-Hearted Spirit
+30 Celestial Being
+40 Savior Of The Damned
+50 God Of Peace

As you may have guessed I'm going to use you for my entertainment. What fun is there for someone to have an adventure if they cannot fail? Oh, you can fail. They're called Wasted and they will bring your journey to an abrupt end if you find yourself picking one. They're hidden and may come as a surprise. I'm not cruel, though, so I've sprinkled Cheat Codes to aid you throughout your adventure. Some will be obvious while others will be hidden. To use a Cheat Code you must find it first and bank it (writing it down). That Cheat Code can now be used at specific moments.

Below are all Cheat Codes. Can you find them? You cannot use a cheat if you haven't found it, even if it appears in the choices!

fw3 - Distract your enemies in battle by talking to them! Unlock a special scene.

RedDagger - Kawaii your way out of any situation! Unlock a special scene.

UZUMYMW - Unlock a special scene with weapons.

THELASTRIDE - Unlock the Romeo Hearse to access a special scene.

razorsharkhead - Add -10 to your score.

A. Vinewood - Add +10 to your score.

Score adding cheats can only be added to your final score at the end of your adventure to raise/lower your score.

Lastly, there are Destinies. These are endings you should strive to find. Your adventure has a start which you can control and set a path but destinies will take the reigns and give you the most logical ending of that path. You control the path, not your destiny. Pick wisely.

There are 12 Destinies and 11 Wasted.

Above all, this story is a grim look into GTA:Online and what one could find if presented with choices that have dire consequences...There is no respawning in Hell!

Thank you for being "Cheat Codes" in the game. I can assure you they have no clue about this and I hope they don't mind. Especially Amy since her role in the story is somewhat...disturbing. Please don't sue me! These three members are members I respect immensely as thread creators.

The whole idea about a Choose Your Own Adventure (CYOA) has been on a list in a notepad file for well over a year. I have a few ideas written down but none that would really work out either from being too complicated or my lack of knowledge on how to make proper games. The CYOA was within my experience and I was confident I could put my own spin to the CYOA genre and bring something new to GtaForums.

Work on the thread began back in mid to late March. I'm unsure about the specific date but that's when I started to write the main outline of the introduction, rules and the starting point of the adventure. I juggled that with editing pictures for the game. Over the months the idea of using Twine for an actual game format grew over me. I gave up once, overwhelmed by the learning curve. Once I sat down properly and watched tutorials it was extremely easy and I could see the CYOA being more accessible by using Twine. It gave me a boost of confidence. Twine work began in August.

The story is...troubling. I've been dealing with anxiety and depression for a good chunk of my teenage years up to now (mid 20's). The theme is very dark as I would write when needing an outlet. I couldn't help to make gritty details and having Mortal Kombat-esque moments such as the Wasted (Bad Endings). I sincerely hope my thread isn't locked or deleted for the level of gore-text that I wrote. I would be devastated.

With the dark theme in mind, I decided to work as best as I could for an October 1st release. Anywhere near Halloween the thread would be overshadowed by any Halloween DLC that was released for GTA.

Destinies are endings that are rewarding, Wasted are endings that are not. The game has a very big focus on good versus evil and the Destinies/Wasted feature was a perfect fit. Cheat Codes were introduce to provide a more "videogame" feel to the game, if that makes sense. The Cheat Codes range from GtaForums members that I admire and respect as well as past GTA titles cheat codes.

The game was meant to be more complicated to the point of driving me insane. It had a percentage system in place as well as a dice roll, both paired up to determine if an action was passed or not. This would've caused the game to be, easily, triple if not more its final size. Here's an example:

CHOICE 1 - Do Nothing. (0)

CHOICE 2 - Defend yourself. (+4)

CHOICE 3 - Attack enemy. (-3)

So, yeah, I ditched that quite quickly.

Thank you for anyone that plays the game. It means a lot to me, it really does.

This was fantastically well written!

On my first run, I got a score of 48. Clearly I wasn't destined to be a god of war.

E: I didn't end up getting Wasted either. I'm going to count that as a success!

E2: Actions (without spoiling too much)

Are you sure? You can't help yourself, like a kid digging around in a closet to find presents. Well then, here goes:

@Professional: Thank you! Mind editing in your actions? I'd like to keep all playthroughs written although if people provide a screenshot like you've just done that seems like an easy solution. The only problem is if they use a cheat code I won't know if they got it legitimately.

Due to the forum having a limit on post length (28K words seems to be too much!) I'm currently racing to put out an online text version to satisfy purists and to keep the forum version alive in some way. Will be adding it shortly!

I can edit that in, but how can I do it without spoiling major parts of the path I took?

Oh and I didn't even manage to find a cheat code in my first play through, I think I may need to brush up on my detective skills.

Added all scores posted to the leaderboard. Was hoping this would pick up more, to be honest and not sound so full of myself. Please spread the word around about this! I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks to those so far that played, means a lot to me. :)

This looks very fun, crazy and quite detailed, Livejoker. I'm looking forward to giving it a go; it will have to be late tonight or tomorrow when I'm not stuck at work though.

I'll post my results upon completion. :)

That was fun, but less for the points and more for the storyline and the reading... I enjoyed the heck out of it! You've got a real gift for expressive writing and humor. I'd have read through it, even if there were no game aspect involved.

My first run achieved 48.

My second achieved 36.

My third, wasted with a score of zero.

Not sure what it all means, but this reply will bump the thread and hopefully encourage others to check it out.
It's a quick download and played it through Firefox.

Cheers, Livejoker! Brilliantly laid out, both articulately, graphically, and linkwise! Well played! :)

--- EDIT: I assumed that my name in the game was a dynamic element. I just read your note above about why you chose the people you did, and must say that I'm sincerely honored and humbled! Seriously! What a truly nice thing to say and a wonderful gesture! Thank you, LJ. That just made my whole day! :D

@fw3: If you can get a snapshot of your score I'll throw it in the leaderboard!

@RP: Totally understand as this isn't for everyone, though "Roleplaying" is usually shortened to RP which is ironic seeing that's your name. I hope you give it a chance.

I think Amy really liked her appearance in the game.

Nah, I can't read some of it cause its so small, and feels a little too D&D for me. Never was into that. Still nice work though. Also my name is just an abbreviation for my channel name. not trying to plug myself, just check sig if interested

@Amy: Without spoiling the story, did you play the Bad End that you're involved in? When I was done writing it I was both laughing at how absurd yet fitting the idea was but kind of terrified at what I wrote. By far one of the more grim bad endings.

@RP: If using a PC you can zoom in using an internet browser. The text can be difficult to read depending on what type of monitor you're using. And yes, this is largely inspired by classic forum games which all stem from the D&D genre in some way. Thanks for checking it out, though!

Thanks for the kind words and encouragements, guys. Hopefully it'll catch on in the next coming days. If not then I'll probably take a much needed break.

Yes I did, and it seemed to be a fitting ending if you're rude to nice people. I was kinda terrified too, but I just couldn't stop reading. After reading my part I wanted to read all possible options and outcomes, it's a very well thought out story no matter what path you take.

That was a nice game, 2 choices in and I already got a wasted number 2. What a nice meal.

I suck at making choices I guess. Guess I'll have to try again soon.

Well for me, I saw it earlier - but I hadn't had a lot of sleep, and wanted to enjoy this properly. It's probably the same with others - they might've seen it, but it's something you need to put a little time to.

I think it looks great, and I'm definitely going to do it a little later.

Wow ... This was quite deep, I'm glad I waited a while so I could soak it in better. I still am going to explore some of the other paths and endings as time goes by.

I like it though; it's very well written, and I love the way you've merged in real things, kind of popping up in this version of reality, in a nightmare-kind of way. It reminded me a little of The Evil Within, though that could be the background picture, and the hospital area (I never did get to finish that game actually, should get back to it some day).

My first try, I got myself wasted very quickly lol.

I'm not really sure which should be put up as my score? Do we go with the first one? Or just whatever we feel like sums us up best? Or whichever one has us survive?

A great game at any rate. To be honest, I don't know if calling it a "game" really does it much justice. A great creation anyway; you can see a lot of effort went into it.

Well it depends what title you want to be addressed as on the leaderboard. Your score reflects the following:

-50 God Of War
-40 Gatekeeper To Hell
-30 Wicked Demon
-20 Devilish Imp
-10 Fallen Angel
0 Common Townsfolk
+10 Redeemed Demon
+20 Kind-Hearted Spirit
+30 Celestial Being
+40 Savior Of The Damned
+50 God Of Peace

I think being a Savior Of The Damned is a fitting name for you! The Hunter was disregarded for GTA V and you brought it back to life. With that logic I'll be putting up that 42 that you got as your score, unless you prefer a lower score towards neutral or negative to be an evil person? Just let me know if you want to swap it out!

Thanks for the kind words. Means a lot to me. Super happy that you gave it a few tries. The game can be quickly completed (as you found the shortest route possible, the only shorter one is not looking into the ball at the start) but you've reached one of the longer endings on your third try! And yes, the game does inspire itself from The Evil Within, alongside Resident Evil/Silent Hill which is funny because while making this project I would listen to a one hour loop of

from Legend Of Zelda as well as
from Corpse Bride but both piano versions. It's bizarre as the games mentioned are dark and horrifying but the songs listed are beautiful. It gave me a vision of the world I wanted to build which was...beautiful horror.

I'll probably forget to do this but I'll possibly post the "map layout" of all the paths further down the line so for those that want to see all the endings can follow it, along with all cheat locations. And...uh...just wanna apologize for having a big head earlier, guys. Was bummed this wasn't getting as much attention as I was hoping but it's just been a day up. I haven't been sleeping well so I think I just need to relax and let the thread have its course.

To be honest I could completely see where you were coming from. You look at threads that are low effort and more or less the same as previous ones (I'm not naming names lol) and see them getting loads of pages upon pages - then something that's original and has had months go into it go by slowly, it's pretty annoying.

But I think this is the kind of thing that will probably go along slower, but grow more over time. Most people are probably just to strapped for time, waiting until they can get into it (whereas you can chime in on simple stuff like "Bored of the game yet?" any time in the day). Plus you'll have people looking past without knowing what's in the thread, but then check it out and see it later on.

I used to be very into the old Resident Evil games. I wouldn't mind some new games completely in the style of those.
