Meet Arthur Morgan

Failure

'Arthur Morgan'.

What a lackluster name.

"John Marston"

J O H N

laziest name.

They literally ripped his name from some poet https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Marston_(poet)

When did I ever imply that John Marston was a good name?

'Arthur Morgan'.

What a lackluster name.

And yet, so wonderfully era-appropriate. What were you expecting? Zarjazz Mcfantastif*ck?

:/

I was expecting something other than 'Arthur Morgan'.

"Arthur Morgan" rolls off the tongue pretty nice and sounds like a name someone would have at the time. Though aslong as he's an interesting and engaging character his name is little of my concern.

Straight ruthless criminal as it seem by the trailer, he don't f*ck around and he is actually scary, that's pretty good, his character does look realist; he collect debts, fight and kill people, rob banks, and he doesn't seem to give a single f*ck, thats what he do and even way better it seem that he truly enjoy all this. Strictly Criminal, I like it.

This is what pure criminal look like, no cliché or anything like this, just a criminal.

seems like an interesting character for sure but it's gonna take a lot to top John Marston.

Maybe the reason why he became an outlaw is because of his name. Though, many reallife outlaws were known by their nicknames and not their birth names as their birth names weren't very outlawish.

Each time I see Arthur's name, I immediately think of that old cartoon, that's for kids, titled 'Arthur'. It still comes on on PBS Kids. Which has been around since I was a kid nearly 20yrs ago. I hope others will think the same as I do just so that the really creative people can photoshop the cartoon show Arthur's face onto RDR2's Arthur and create some highly entertaining memes.

The more I think of his name the more I think of some bad ass old time gunslinger like Ricketts in waiting. It just has that ring to it. Like imagine him 30 years down the line telling the youngins stories about the old west.

I know John's going to be hard to top, but I'm liking this guy the more I watch the trailer.

I hope some basic barber shop customisation is available because I think he'd look menacing with a handlebar moustache like Kurt Russell's sheriff character (can't remember his name) in Bone Tomahawk.

The name itself seems to be an amalgam of names from the Legend of King Arthur.

The Good - King Arthur Pendragon

The Bad - Morgan Le Fay

Pretty damn cool. It seems to suggest that we'll be both the protagonist and antagonist of the same story. Rockstar are great at making names - this is like Hundred Dollar Bill all over again.

Two different characters. John seems much more a man of the people. Arthur is a mean sonofabitch. People will like John for different reasons than they like Arthur. John is willing to take a reasonable amount of sh*t, whereas Arthur appears not to take any. Two different guys.

I wonder if the reason Arthur isn't mentioned in RDR is because John didn't like him much and didn't care what happened to him, and Dutch and John never really had a lot of opportunities to chat and rehash the old days to mention him.

Speaking of which, I really hope we get to see him again, even though his VA died years ago.

It would be a gutsy choice. I have noticed a trend in historical games for protagonists to be completely devoid of the historical prejudices of the day, and whilst I understand it on a narrative level to elicit sympathy from a modern audience, it's not exactly honest.

There certainly were people of the age who were not racist or sexist or what have you, but even then their overt religiosity or scientific illiteracy would still make them seem almost alien to us.

If he's the only character, I can understand them making him more liberally minded, but if there is more than one protagonist, making Arthur more a man of his times would not be such a gamble.

This looks like its in the 1890s like 30 years after slavery was over and most Slave owners were from rich wealthy families and I don't think that Arthur comes from a wealthy background. Edited by Zello

BTW,Arthur doesn't seem to be that tall as I thought him to be.

If you check him when he delievers his line:

''I'll keep her in black on your behalf''

You can see he's the same height as the adult, either he's not tall,or that young mofo is a tall bastard.

If I recall correctly, Dutch van der Linde wasn't racist, in fact he was pretty idealistic and had, what we'd today call, a leftist "f*ck the man" attitude. He seemed to surround himself with like minded people, so I doubt this guy is going to be a bigot.

I'm sure a bunch of side characters are going to be racist as f*ck, though. They have to acknowledge that, considering the time and place.

I can see Morgan calling some black person a ni**er simply to degrade, and everyone going nuts about it on the forums

I think Arthur will be an equal opportunity asshole though.

These two have to meet at some point. Given how Red's antics took place about 30 years before Redemption, he'd still be pretty young in RDR2, right?

"You tell 'em I'm coming... and hell's coming with me"

EDIT: I also agree with other peoples sentiments on Arthur Morgan being a bad man. I hope he is almost a antagonist at the start, straight up mean motherf*cker. I love Marston but would love to play a a real son of a btich outlaw doing straight outlaw sh*t this time around.

I was just thinking that. I'm guessing if he does kick the bucket, we'll play as John for the remainder of the game, Sort of like in RDR1.

I wasn't sure what to make of Arthur in my first watch. I mean, We only get a taste of what he's like and even then maybe thats just R* wanting us to think of him a certain way. He does kinda remind me of Thomas Haden Church as a cowboy though... but less whiney looking.
