@tripI get what you’re saying about older games.  I’m slogging through Far Cry 2.  I really enjoyed it when it was released, and when it came out on GWG, I immediately played it.  But it is rough.  Made me remember why Far Cry 3 was such a revolution.  They addressed (almost) everything I didn’t like about Far Cry 2 in Far Cry 3.  Better controls, better stealth, enemies that don’t “cheat”, a map that doesn’t feel completely dead.

I remember being very disappointed that there wasn’t any predators in Far Cry 2.  I didn’t realize it until I was a good chunk into it.  Up until then I was terrified of water because of crocs, and going out at night for fear of lions hunting me down.

Sorry about MY ramble.

I don't think I ever truly enjoyed Far Cry 2. There's just too many checkpoints with too many enemies. Seems like the factions put more effort into killing me instead of each other.

And the respawn rate? Ugh. I tried getting the diamond case in the southern territory where you need to use a hang glider to reach a nearby rock and I kept getting shot out of the sky. I knew I needed to wait for nightfall so they couldn't see you but I wanted to try and clear out the checkpoint first and they all respawned after I walked 30 feet away.

Not a fan of the voice acting either, everyone sounded like they were channeling their inner Micro Machine Man.

WALL OF TEXT

The issue with that would be if a certain game got removed you technically don't own it so you won't have it in your library anymore. I don't find digital purchases to be particularly reliable either but honestly I like collecting physical copies. Music CDs are nice too. Just don't f*cking hoard them like an idiot.

Some people buy sh*tloads of console games just to have the complete collection but I don't really see the point in that. I must own like 20-30 console games currently and I got into console gaming back in 2014 or something. On PC digital is more convenient.

I've hoarded music.  :)

Music is far more timeless than video games.

I still play discs I bought back in the 80's.  Can't say the same about video game I bought at the same time.

But dont think I'm arguing you or anything.  Remember I'm the guy with boxes of video games that were collected through the years.  I do own a steal box copy of V even.  :)

I bought the ultimate edition of RDR 2 partly because of the cool case but honestly if the game comes out on PC I might just get rid of it. Can't really justify owning both versions when the PC one is better.

I like that I can let my Game Pass run out and get it for cheap again. £1 last month for a month, then £2 for two months today. I hate that you can't turn off recurring billing from the Game Pass screen though without having to use the Edge web browser.

So... Crackdown is finally out. Played it last night and it's a beautiful game. And although I was wrecked tired after work playing it, it was a lot of fun. It's like this nice neon Cyberpunk world. And the driving is surprisingly fun. I've only played about 1 hour of it so we'll see. I have no expectations of Crackdown, so it's a nice surprise.

It's just an aesthetically pleasing game. And the gameplay is pretty decent.

I liked the first so I'll play this on Game Pass. Reviews are just opinions. Reminds me of Metal Arms a Glitch in the System with all the shinyness and lighting aesthetics. Loved that game.

I'm really enjoying it - I've seen it described as being "just Crackdown 1" again, but ...nah. Crackdown 2 was "just the first game again" (and in fairness, only because Microsoft pressured Ruffian to crank out a sequel in nine months), whereas this feels like a genuine sequel, with all the new changes addressing things from the original (more enemy/weapon variety, some nice ease-of-use improvements, etc.). Having played the original recently (because holy cow, the 1X enhancements make it look like a full-on remaster...), a lot of what's been tweaked in 3 fixes little gripes I had with 1 - for instance, there's more incentive to use different weapons, and suit thrusters mean that you can recover from a fumbled jump, rather than falling off a skyscraper and having to climb the whole thing again from scratch... :sui:

Probably helps that I'm more the target audience for this game to start with - Crackdown 1 ranks up there with GTA III as one of my all-time favourite open-world titles, and I'm particularly fond of traversal-centric open-world playgrounds (Spider-Man 2 is another favourite, Sunset Overdrive sold me on the Xbone, and the last two games I where I knocked out 100% completion were Assassin's Creed Syndicate* and Saints Row IV), so 'more of the same, but with tweaks' suits my tastes just fine. That, and I followed the troubled development enough to not expect 'cloud-powered destruction' as a core feature - that went out the window the moment Dave Jones sold Cloudgine to Epic Games, and so I've only ever been expecting a sequel that plays like a Crackdown game, not a reboot with a radically-different gameplay loop.

Granted, it's also a simple loop that isn't going to appeal to everyone, but ...that was the case back in 2007, too - hence why Microsoft used the Halo 3 multiplayer demo to help shift the original, and presumably why they're making a thing about being able to try this one on Game Pass for as little as $1. I'm guessing that, like back then, and with Sea of Thieves as a more recent MS exclusive, people will try it out, and it'll carve out a niche for itself.

*for what it's worth, while I love Terry Crews almost as much as Terry loves lavender, I liked the look of spunky British agent Zaya - turns out she's voiced by Victoria Atkin, who starred as Evie Frye in AC Syndicate, and she's amusingly blunt and foul-mouthed, while making jokes about joyriding when car-jacking poor random civilians. Throw in the fact she's dyed her hair TVR Chameleon Green, and her main speciality is driving, and ...look, Sumo Digital, I said this game was very much my jam, but you didn't need to hand-craft the sort of character I'd make as a custom agent just to seal the deal, yeah? ;)

Like the Crackdown games, it's very much suited for Game Pass - the sort of game where the first 10-30 minutes are enough to get a feel for the whole experience, and the majority of players aren't necessarily going to buy it outright and complete it, but would be happy to 'rent' it and have fun with it for a week or so. Same with Forza Horizon 4 and similar, too, for the same reasons, come to think of it.

In Games with Gold news, Republic Commando and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance are good adds for this month, and it's more of the same reasoning as above - both games I've wanted to try at some point, but never quite got around to forking out for them. As GwG freebies, though, I'm not going to pass them up, which means I'm more likely to get around to playing them than just saying "one day, I really ought to give _____ a look...".

Yeah same. I mean I loved Just Cause 2 but 3 wasn't great and didn't have any of the "magic" JC2 had. I was a bit skeptical of JC4 but still curious to play it. I finally can afford to get Game Pass again, so I actually subscribed again after the free month sub Trip posted ran out. Great finally having a job and being able to afford to game better. Crap having job, having less time to game. :) :(

Think I agree with Commander S when he says you kind of get a feel for the whole experience in the first 30 mins. I get too many games with good intentions of completing them, thoroughly enough at the start (just in case it becomes my new fav game, I'm doing all side-quests etc) but I burn out on a lot of them at the 40 or 50 hour mark. I have a big collection of unfinished games now.

Finally, I think I'm going to set my expectations right. With JC4, I'll do some story missions, maybe finish the story and I wont take over all the territory. At least I should play until I unlock all the good stuff.

Argh, they removed Max Payne 1 and 2 from the store. Guessing licensing issues, though I'm not sure what music in MP1 would cause a delist.

I've been thinking about getting an external hard drive for my Xbox one, I've seen a few on the internet that are 320GB for around £20, I just wanted to ask if there is some sort of specific hard drive that only works with the Xbox One's? Or can I buy one of these off the internet? Most of the descriptions I've found say that they are compatible, but I'd rather make sure before I make the purchase.

I would recommend saving up a few more dollars for something larger.  320 is a bit small.  Anything 256 or below will only work for storing media...no games.

Whatever is going to have the best throughput through USB 3.0 might be the only real thing to factor.

I have a cheap ass WD passport 2tb drive hooked up and have no complaints.   I think I paid 100 USD but that was back whenever the x1 was new.

Most of that is the OST, which probably wouldn't result in a license removal. MP2 had Late Goodbye but I'm not sure what if any songs of that nature would be in MP1.

Ooh my mistake, I though you were looking for the soundtrack to listen to when you did I don’t know what music was in MP didn’t see “to delist it”

Similar here - got a 1 TB WD My Passport Ultra for around £50 just over a year ago. @Stormingz, if you're more likely to need more space for larger games, maybe save up for a 2 TB instead - I got more space just by upgrading to a One X last year, and I don't buy masses of huge games, so 2 TB overall (1 TB console internal, 1 TB external drive) is more than enough for my needs, but might not be if you're on a base One, or have lots of huge (RDR2, for instance) things you want installed.

Also, as @trip points out, as long is it's USB 3.0, you should be fine - don't get confused by things like official licensed Xbox One drives, because they're just green versions of regular drives with an Xbox logo on them. That, and they're Seagate, and Seagate doesn't have a great reputation for reliability. Worth bearing in mind that external drives will last longer if you aren't planning on unplugging them and taking them out and about - you might read articles/guides warning that 'it's not a matter of if a drive will fail, but when', but that's mostly to do with drives getting knocked/dropped when people use them as mobile storage, not just permanently-plugged-in extra storage for a console that doesn't leave the shelf.

One thing to note with an Xbox One is that while any USB 3.0 drives will work fine, that's because the console will format them to be compatible, by basically wiping anything like PC software that might be on them. It'll warn you this when you plug the drive into your console, but once that happens, that drive is now Xbox One only - you can't use it as a universal drive for PC or whatever once it's been formatted to work with your console. It will, however, work just fine with any Xbox One, including a One X - you can even save your personal One settings to the drive, if you want to then swap to a One X, and you can then plug in the drive when you first switch on your One X, and it'll factor those settings into the setup process. :)

@trip, @Commander S I’ll be getting one of the bigger ones then, don’t want to buy one of the smaller sized hard drives and be back in the same position I’m in now. Thanks for your inputs!

This is the one I have. I got it a couple years ago for ~$150. I have 259 games installed on it - 75% full - 925GB left

$90 for 4TB USB powered is a good deal

Decent, but you still might run into storage problems later. 1TB could probably hold 20 full Xbox One games (at 40GB/ea).

I really don’t have that many games that I play, it’s all these game updates that frequently happen that seem to take up most of my storage. Generally, once I feel like I’ve finished with a game, I just delete it to make more room for other games.

Yea, probably 90% of mine are just Games with Gold games lol
