So my headset sh*t to bed again recently. So my mom picked me up this Xbox Stereo Headset. So far, it works well. I hope it works for the longrun unlike the sh*tty $20 headsets they make. I was hoping for Turtle Beaches but hey, begger can't be choosers. Now if they will just patch the partys for the preview program members...

Well, I'm not sure if we're supposed to even have it yet. I came accross this article and tried smashing Up and A on my settings panel, and voila, Cortana loaded up.

Wasn't sure what they meant but that but I googled more and it worked right away.

 

If anyone wants to try it that's in the preview program.

• Open the guide
• Go down to the settings tab (gear icon)
• Press left to enter the settings area
• Press up until the highlight disappears
• Now tap the “A” button a few times on the controller to have Cortana appear

Were you using Turtle Beach's before? I found that with both pairs I owned they would always break.

I had one pair break on me after owning it for nearly 2 years. It was under warranty so I sent them in and got a fresh new boxed pair for free in about a week. These were X12's btw for Xbox 360.

 

I only used the headset that came with the Xbox One until today.

 

Edit: My damn console overheated. I was only playing GTA for like 3 hours, editing a video. My xbox has NEVER overheated, EVER. Not even close. And when it shut itself off, it wasn't even hot. I am incredibly worried this NXOE is gonna destroy my console, and I'm gonna be one pissed off MFer if it does. I know I shouldn't have signed up if I couldn't handle this sh*t, but I didn't expect it to do sh*t like this. God I hope more stable versions come out soon man. I know I can revert but re-downloading 500GB's worth of stuff doesn't sound fun to me. ggduwsj this is stressing me out so much. I don't have money to replace my console if it breaks, if that happens I am screwed.

I've been a bit frustrated with mine a bit too. My Battlefront has been lagging like hell, and people are saying it has to do with the NXOE.

 

Check to see if your fan is running, because even though it may feel cool on top, that doesn't mean that the heatsink may be overheating. Also, because the fan is so quiet, use a flashlight to look through the vents on top and check to see if there's any movement. If there is, then don't worry about it. At that point, it's most likely a software related issue. Let that be of some comfort knowing your console is most likely in good working condition.

 

As for Cortana, it now changed the message on my notifications to "Hey Cortana open that" instead of "Xbox open that", but when I try, she still fails to control the console. Damn, I can't wait to use it.

Snap an app, Game DVR. You can start recording or choose to record 1-3-5 minutes of stuff that happened in the past.

 

You can only record 5 minutes.

It's weird. It picks up the guitar but everything is wacky and it makes my main controller all screwy and unresponsive.

Had at it again with some success. My guitar seems to have needed a beating on some buttons to get things moving. It still has issues but I'm caulking that up to the sh*tty, old, plastic guitar.

 

Main controller still is all weird and unresponsive until I turn off the guitar controller.

So my Xbox One has got a good one for everyone today. Everytime I turn on the console it is really dim on the tv screen. If I shut the console down (yes, right after I just turned it on) and turn it back on, its runs/displays perfect. Its basically the dim like when you pause a game, walk away, then come back to see your tv dim out. So I tried changing settings on my tv but then say I pause a game and walk away, no matter how long I'm gone for the tv will not dim out and I don't want that. It has not always done this just the past few months or so. I mean I could turn off my consoles "always on" mode and probably put it into energy saving mode as well and this would probably fix it. I'm just thinking my smart tv (which isn't being very smart) thinks the Xbox One has been on all night and day when it hasn't and thats why the screen is already dim, my tv is off all day if anyone was wondering, I never leave it on.

 

I like the always on feature and I like the Xbox starting up in two seconds but.......I might have to give it up. Also, does the Xbox One need to read my HDD when the console is off? Can/should I take this option off?

I've occasionally had this problem. Sometimes turning the TV on and off helped, but yeah, most of the time it required a reset. Let's just say, it hasn't happened enough to warrant a full shut down every time. It's just something I've learned to live with.

Once I found out my console shipped always on, I turned that sh*t off. I didn't like leaving it on, even if it's designed for it. I just like the fact that when i turn it off, it's off. I can deal witht he boot times, even if they're slow as hell with the current preview build.

I have a question regarding joining other people's games on Xbox One.

 

I am able to join friend's games like if they send an invite and I accept but whenever I look at someone's profile and I see that they are in a game (in most cases GTA V and online), the option to join is always grayed out or I hit join and it never does anything. Like for example when I lag out of a server where it says xxxxxx left, yyyyyy left, zzzzzzz left etc., I go to recent players and select a profile and try to re-join the session yet like I said it's always grayed out. It also always says they are in a game on their own too when I know for sure they aren't because I was just in that server with them. Happens even if I'm looking at someone's profile that is in my session it still says their in a game with just 1 person (themselves). My NAT type is open and I have a wired connection to my Xbox. Does anyone know why I can never join other's games or if there is a setting I need to change to be able to?

I've gone lengthy periods of time where I've alternated between having the console 'always on' and the alternative. Depends on what the electricity bill looks like, really.

Sitting at my PC and I could actually do a side by side of the original PC version and this X1 version since I can stream up here at 1080p. I got sh*t to do first. ha.

Yeah my Internet is pretty good. From time to time I do lag out of games or get put into empty servers but I can still manage to find a more populated one after a few goes. If not usually a hard reset of the console works.

 

I'd double check and triple check that your NAT is right. My memory's a little hazy but I swear there was a period of time where the console was reporting the wrong NAT status for some users... don't remember if that was fixed.

Well I have noticed once or twice that when I checked the NAT settings it was saying something other than open (restricted perhaps, I can't remember?), but then after a short while I'd re-check it and ti would say open. Also if I remember correctly, isn't it a real pain to change your NAT type as there is no outright option?

On the NAT topic. If you are in the states and have Comcast for internet you pretty much have no control over your NAT and your X1 can totally report a different NAT layer. Not that I have to say it but "Comcast sucks".
