Ahhhhh....you're right. I've been getting them via smartglass these past few days. Add it to the list of sh*t to fix. They are pretty good with that. Heck, even my (no one ever uses) DVR voice commands are back.

I don't want to eat you though..

I watched the '5 easy tricks to do on your controller' video, it showed the snapped apps appeared on the left (Achievement one). So which is it going to be? Snapped apps on the right, as it is for me now, or like the video and snap on the left?

They should just allow you which side you want

As part of the last preview update (Which is the update that came out when we got the dashboard) snapped apps appear on the right as opposed to the left. But I agree, I'd prefer them on the left with the rest of the stuff.

It's also confusing to switch from a snap to the game. You have to go back to the dashboard then go to the left then press A again. It was much easier, albeit slower on the last dashboard, but it was easier.

Yea, it's not final version because we're still missing Cortana. So hopefully they make it easier to switch from a snap to game, maybe hold B and press left on the stick. idk

Just got the new dashboard. OMG I love it. It's super snappy and fast. No more loading and splash screens. I'll need to update my GTA wallpaper though.

So something I noticed, it's a little more difficult to create a background image that perfectly works with the new layout. The 1080p image actually moves up/down and left/right with Guide. I will have to find a way to make it work, so just bear with me if while I try to get these GTA V wallpapers updated. I will share them here when I can.

Got it. Love it. The speed, oh my god the speed is great. It looks very nice and it is accessible, it's familiar enough to find everything I need. I did get hung up on a couple of things that were not loading correctly but nothing more than what is to be expected from early access.

I can deal with the glitches.

I can deal with the hiccups.

I can deal with giving feedback.

I however cannot deal with partys being completely broken. So broken infact that letting your controller die while talking, or even lagging out once completely breaks partys until you reset the console entirely. This Dash is proving more trouble that it's worth, and i'd reset back to the old one if I didn't have to re-download all of my games to do so. God I hope they patch this sh*t quick man. This is driving me to drink.

Ok, so here's what I was able to muster so far. I can change things and customize it to fit any specific art requests, but it takes a bit longer. The very fact that the wallpaper shifts when going left and right on the dash removes the ability customize it with text highlights, etc. It's a step down in customization, but it's still doable.

The last time my Xbox One updated it was Sept. 10. Is this the last time for everyone else too? I'm not in a preview program or anything. Just curious.

Yeah, that was around the time it last updated for me before the preview update, Sept 13th to be exact. I was persistent on looking at the update check waiting on the preview update.

Finally got an Xbox One. I said I wouldn't get one for at least a year after it came out. Now it's two years and I had to go for it.. given Just Cause 3, Mafia III and Fallout 4 will be out soon in the not too distant future.

So, I'm anticipating Windows 10 for the One. That will roll-out in November, right? How are you going to utilize this?

I can't really afford any games. I'll have MSG to play and maybe replay Tomb Raider. Eventually, I'll get GTA V. :D

Yep, it's set to roll out to everyone next month. As far as utilizing it, it's more for ease of use, accessibility, and speed right now. Early next year they will launch Cortana for Xbox one for improved voice recognition.

Sounds like we will be getting the old fashioned 360 way of being able to play your own music through games and whatnot. Thank goodness it wasn't written off.

Love this NXOE update! So fast and smooth to do *mostly* anything, save for a couple glitches here and there. They're getting rid of the bugs pretty fast too.

Dropped my controller in a mug of coffee this morning (dont ask) and didn't even know until at least a minute later. Picked it up when I realised and the controller just pissed coffee out of the bottom. Great start to my day. I put it in a lunchbox and filled the lunchbox with rice and left it in the airing cupboard while I was at work and when I came home and plugged it in via usb it came alive like nothing had happened. Can't believe it.

How? :p

They're rugged suckers.

Better than my phone, I dropped it in my soup. lol the volume button don't work, or the power button, so I have to remove the battery to turn it on(if it dies) and have to press two buttons to get it out of stand-by mode. lol it's an old phone anyways, so no biggie.

Bout f*cking time, really. I couldn't imagine it would be that hard to make this happen. Listening to pandora while playing GTA? Yes please.

I think it has to do with the way the console mixes audio.

For an audiophile like me, I can't stand that I only have two choices of audio output for the TV app. So, normally my cable box can output Dolby 5.1, but once it enters the Xbox, the Xbox attempts to transcode it into either Stereo or "Surround Sound", which is just a bullsh*t version of Dolby Pro-Logic. Microsoft has not developed an ability to handle pass-thru audio, which would allow the 5.1 signal from the cable box to pass through the Xbox and then on to my AV receiver, where it would then decode properly. This, I heard, was a result of the Snap feature being improperly developed to work with mixed audio. Therefore, all things that require audio mixing, such as background music, where put on the back-burner.

I should have said playing GTA with Pandora playing but not being snapped. It sounds fine playing Pandora while being snapped and I am not sure how long it's been there but there is even an option in audio settings to set the volume priority of snapped app vs main app.

What they could do is simply give the option to collapse a snapped app without pausing and/or muting it. I just hate having to sacrifice a third of my screen to a snapped app.

Give us Spotify while they're at it. :p

The snapping music apps just plays the music straight through - overtop of the games audio? I guess I could just try it out myself...haha.

The old 360 way was the best because it would replace the games music with your music. It was perfect for chilling with cheesy games like Wheel of Fortune, Monopoly and the like.

Oh and...When the f*ck are we getting an update to the backwards compatible list?!

That's probably the best X1 to get with the sound effects from ejecting the dvds and turning it on and off.

Welcome

Using this quote just because it started off my crazy thought trail just now.

I'm all digital so I rarely interact with the physical side of the X1. But... I know you are a GameFly person and might spend a fair amount of time swapping out game disc.

Watch - I'm predicting the future right now. GameFly will soon become a digital rental service. Nearly everything is in place to support the model. The only thing I can see holding it back would be the console companies since they have a stake in the digital game marketplace. Do it like the old movie days where you have to wait a few months after the retail release(or theater release as far as movies) before something becomes available to rent.

I had that discussion with my brother a few times.

They could do the plans they already have, one, two or three games out. It is a simple concept but difficult trying to figure out how to price it. It's easy to buy game discs in bulk, you get what you get, but how do you do it with digital downloads?

I guess they could still buy digital licenses and do it the same way as if they did it with discs.

Problem is that Microsoft and Sony are the gatekeepers of content on their consoles. They could easily implement a digital rental system of their own, but it requires DRM infastructure, and we all know how that worked out when MSFT attempted it. I'm actually surprised that Steam hasn't capitalized on a rental model yet, but I guess the irony there is that because there's less control of the content downloaded on to a PC, it requires more limitations in order to facilitate it.

Well, I'm not sure if we're supposed to even have it yet. I came accross this article and tried smashing Up and A on my settings panel, and voila, Cortana loaded up.

It works perfectly, much more so than the static Xbox commands. I can talk to it at a normal level of conversation and she knows exactly what I'm saying. I tried to get it to control the Xbox, but it just doesn't have that capability yet. It either craps out or sends you to a Bing search.
