About 4 months late but Just got a Samsung Galaxy S6 and I tried to do the screen cast on it, but I can't get it to work to save my life! Has Anyone successfully connected to the Wireless Display app with an S6?

My brother got an S6 Edge the other week. I could try it later, but I haven't had any problem connecting to it from my tablet, except you can't if it's in Snap mode.

I appreciate it. I tried the 'quick connect' on the pull down settings of the phone and the xbox showed up, but it just wouldn't connect. There is probably just one thing I'm not doing to get it to work.

His worked first go.

Did you try Screen Mirroring instead of the quick connect?

Can I ask a stupid question? For screen mirroring to work for me I have to have the app open on the X1 first and then toggle the screen mirroring on my tablet. This is from a Samsung Tablet(pro).

Do you have the app open on the X1?

Yea, that should be opened but if not, open the wireless display app first.

Along similar lines. It makes me crazy when my tablet doesn't see my Xbox for YouTube stuff. You know...that little symbol that let's you switch your tablet/phone's youtube session to the x1.

I like that feature a lot because it is easier to use my tablet to navigate youtube and then throw the video to my big tv.

Usually I have to do a full boot of the xbox before the option to share my YT shows up on the tablet.

Oh....and when the f*ck is the backwards compatible list gonna update? Grrrrr...I want to play some FO3 for crying out loud.

Can't say I'd be a fan of them only doing backwards compatibility for their games, if it's behind a paygate like EA access.

I don't thinking they're hiding them behind paywalls... It's probably just a move to get more games into the library and give people a reason to subscribe to it, I mean, some new games and a bunch of their old games for a small subscription fee rather than forking out the money to buy individual games, that's going to get more people to subscribe to it. At £3.99 a month, it seems like a decent offer to me. I'd jump on if I used my Xbox more tbh. You can probably play the games you already own without EA access.

On a somewhat unrelated note, I've had Tomb Raider sat on my XB1, for what I assume must be months, and I never even knew. I only found out because I decided to grab the free car pack for FH2. But even now, I doubt I'll touch it because I won a steam code for it a few days ago.

Well, if EA makes their titles backwards compatible, but they are only available through EA access instead of the current schema, then that's hiding them behind a paywall and what I'm getting at.

It would be a shame for Microsoft to make this push only to have third party publishers segment it in this manner.

Whether that's the intent though, is anyone's guess at the moment.

I hope that even if they add them to EA access they'll still be available for people who actually bought the games. I want to go back and play Bad Company 2 dammit. And I'm not subscribing to no EA Access, I like to own my games, not rent them.

Now I did. LOL! I couldn't find it on the phone though so I assumed the quick connect was screen mirroring. But I finally found it on the drop down menu, hitting the little pencil (Edit) and moving 'Screen Mirroring' to the quick start menu. Thanks!

I think you're missing the point.

You could still use your games you own; like any other 360 game, they're just thinking about adding some of their old games to their Access for anyone to download to play. Widening their game selection. They would never force you to pay to play your games you already known. lol

No problem!

The only problem with screen mirroring is if the resolution don't match up, if you don't have a 4k tv of course. Then it just stretches it off screen to fit, rather than shrinking down so nothing is cut off.

I think you're missing the point if you think we're talking exclusively about games you might already own, tbh.

Well, then what?

If you own the game, you can play it anyways; just like any other backwards compatible game once they update the list of course, but if you don't you can get EA Access to play it.

I don't see where the confusion is or whatever. I like the idea of EA Access giving us more games to play

I don't own X game.

X game then becomes backwards compatible. But the only way you can play it is via EA access - you can't buy it digital.

That's my concern, among others. It's not clear if they will do that or not at this stage. But I wouldn't put it past them to do so in order to drive up EA Access subs.

Why don't you think it would be available for digital purchase? You can just buy it off xbox.com if you want to own the game, but if you're gonna do that, you might as well pay the EA Access for the month to play it and then indulge in the other games they offer.

Also, don't forget to get the GwG that are on the 360. :^:

Or you can always buy the 360 disc version used. Avoid any missing digital DLs and EA access all the way.

I'm just skeptical on account of this being the company that no longer releases their games on Steam because reasons. :p

But really, it's not so much about it being EA as it is you just know that if something shady happens, Ubisoft and Activision won't blink an eyelid to capitalize on it too.

As for the subject of EA access itself.. I was one of the early adopters waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back before the service was called EA Access and before it had a more broad approach. I won't consider buying back into it unless EA start throwing in some of their treasure trove of classics, personally.

True enough. I try to avoid used copies these days though, since devs/publishers don't see a single dime from those purchases.

I'm waiting for a slim model to be release and then I might buy one.

Or maybe a model that would come with the soon to be release elite controller (don't know if this will happen).

The Crackdown 3 footage from gamescom got me really hype for the console.

Honestly the Xbox one's big size is a blessing in disquise. My Xbox one is the most silent gaming hardware that I have exluding my snes and genesis.Idk if its just my PS4, but it's as load as a jet, however all I can hear on my Xbox one is the slight hum of the fan. Plus the Xbox one was designed to run at least 10 years so I dought Microsoft would risk longevity over looks.

I doubt that, the 360 and PS3 had unusually long life spans and they really held back games, I doubt they'll want to do a repeat of that. The next generation will probably come out in 2-3 years.

Who's going to buy a brand new console in a couple of years in this economy? They'll ride this train as long as they possibly can, just like in the last generation. Nintendo's NX in two years or so won't upset the balance, as it's rumored to be just about as powerful as PS4 and the Xbone and Nintendo is always doing its own thing anyway.

We're still at the very beginning of this cycle. This year is 2007 again, the big transition year for the industry at large.

Also, I wouldn't say last gen really held back game development that much. Sure, games like GTA V were cut down graphically, but I can't see how next-gen only release could have made the game, already with such long development time and insane funding, any better. It's flaws were bad fundamental game design choices. Overinflated budgets and a lack of risk taking is what led the AAA industry to be what it is today, not old hardware. MGS V is the most "next-gen" game I see coming out this year and it's a cross-gen game.

Staying on 10 years =/= 10 years of use. Booting up several times a day over its life is more stressful than being turned on once and only once throughout it's life. It also doesn't seem like Microsoft is confident about this claim since they only offer a 1 year warranty with the product off the shelf. If I was confident about a claim like that then I'd make sure that the product went out with at least a 5 year warranty.

I'm not going to argue about whether you guys think it'll last another 6 years or so, but the way this generation has gone, it really doesn't seem like they'll last long, especially when they're failing to meet something that should be the minimum for games these days (1080p 60fps).

Yea, they should've waited a year to release it and get the 1080p/60fps standard and maybe even a possibility of 4k but nope.

oh well, still good fun.

They said the same thing about Xbox and the same thing with Xbox 360, both lasting more than five year spans. I don't think they will last ten years, but more than five easily.

The 360 is still getting support and that was released 10 years ago this November.

Main reason why the 360 is still going is because they released that console well ahead of the current hardware market, that thing was overpowered at launch, were as these consoles were released underpowered.

Interesting article I cam across.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2015/07/23/why-call-of-duty-black-ops-2-may-never-be-backward-compatible-on-xbox-one/

Not only was Activision not named at Gamescon, but neither was Take Two. I understand there's a need to increase shareholder value, but these kind of things can have long-term damage on the brands they've so closely guarded. The game market is very unforgiving, as we all probably already know.
