They weren't thinking at all.

 

Don't get me wrong, in retrospect, it seems like a nice feature.. but leave that stuff to Wii or make a completely different console for it. I much rather have had the technology built into the Xbox itself that can hear and respond to voice commands and pay a little more but not having to pay another $100 for something I don't even use (the camera).

 

Low and behold, 2wks after I buy my One, what happens? They release the f*cking Kinectless One -___-

 

Don't get me wrong, I like my voice commands but do we really need a camera too? Maybe make the kinectless Xbox have voice technology and let consumers but the other if they want the camera and have dance offs.. I'm good.

 

 

 

@Crossed, I haven't seen that film but that does seem cool.. but still, for now, I like games just the way they are. I think if they want to make the transition into movement-only games, they should take that to a whole nother console or platform and keep the Xbox what it is.

 

I think the numbers were clear how many people aren't all into the Kinect and I don't think it's because of lack of faith in it's technology but more that the gaming world is comprised mainly of Casual Gamers .. people that don't want to put too much effort into gaming. I think there are other areas that need more development before we move into Kinect/Motion games. That's just my opinion and I'm not knocking your opinions down, I'm just a different breed.

Does anyone have any experience with digital license transfers of games? I know how to do it, but I'm skeptical of doing it. Is this legal? Does Microsoft ban you for this, or are they ok with it?

Well, if it's not intended then yes they can.

 

I kind of did this with my brother's account but I never made my xbox his home one and all the other tricks. I just sign in on his, but then switch over to play on my account, for achievement purposes and waht not. Of course I won't be able to play them when he logs in but still works that way.

It can only be done between two people and two consoles. Technically, this is legal, because you are allowed to play digital versions of your games by signing-in on any other Xbox. It's just that Microsoft can't stop you from choosing which console is the home console.

 

So say you're at home and you want to buy a new game. You buy the game, but the license then belongs to your friend's console, but under your account. It's playable on your Xbox because you're allowed to play your games on any Xbox.

Hate to admit it but the fact that they cut down the price for the remainder of the year really makes me want to get it now.. I was going to eventually but didn't think it'd be on the same year as when I got my PS4.

They should be, WD is a reliable brand for HDDs. If you don't feel safe getting it then you can always buy a normal hard drive or even an SSD and buy a hard drive enclosure.

Anything that starts and stops again can easily wear out the life of a HDD. This is why I keep my HDD's running 24/7 on my PC. I've had two externals crap out on me because of this. I would suggest going with an SSD drive if you're going to be using an external, but it's a shame they're so expensive.

Questions:

 

Should I keep the external HDD running all the time if I'm doing auto updates in "instant on" mode for X1? There was an option to turn external HDD off when X1 is off.

 

So keeping the external HDD running all the time makes the lifespan last longer of it?

Yup - like Crossed, I'm a big proponent of keeping harddrives(and computers to a degree) always powered on. Constant on and off/start and stop is not good for lots of things. I have some harddrives that have been spinning since 1999...no lie(because I keep my MAME boxes powered on 24/7/365)

Can't you keep the My Book on if you set the console to stand by mode?

I think so. But this is my best guess I can come up with. The X1 has a seperate option to "when Xbox is off, turn off storage". So I'm guessing your best bet is if you want your external HDD running all the time, deselect "When Xbox is off, turn off storage" and keep it on "instant on" mode. If you want the external HDD off, select "When Xbox is off, turn off storage" and select "Energy-saving" mode.

 

They really do need to clarify this somewhere. I tried searching Google but all I get is "How to set up your external HDD for X1" or " The best external HDD for X1". I didn't have time to search message boards on the X1 official site though. It might be burried in there somewhere.

I know they had some disc drive issues at launch. But that was the first month of release. Have heard nothing negative since.

No issue on my end, though BF4 is the only game I have on disc. The rest of my games are all downloads. But I have had no issues.

I had to replace my Day One last week, as the optical drive was starting to fail.

 

I've not heard of any problems, like esmittystud101, outside of the day one models though.
