Awesome. I noticed PS4 just received the ability to theme their dashboard as well, so this is a nice touch. I also like the idea of having images linked to achievements. Hopefully there's more rolling updates to come.

To be honest, I still think the 360 has it better, it is not perfect, but it still is currently better than the One.

 

I couldn't give a fried cat dookie about the dashboard really, but it was the guide that was the important part. Pretty much anything you would really need to get to was on the guide.

 

I really don't need speed if I am only turning the console on for watching tv or opening an app (Which I never use it for either) but if I did, I am not under a time constraint.

 

However while playing a game, and trying to send a message or send or recieve an invite, recording gameplay, those are the things that need to be the fastest and easiest to do.

 

Because if you have time to leave your game and check the marketplace or f*ck around doing something else, it can take as long as it likes, but anything that is going to be needed to do that revolves around gaming with others, it needs to be f*cking fast as f*ck.

 

The double tap Xbox button hopefully should eventually have customized pins that you could choose from to load them fast, or hotkeys with any button on the controller doing something, like how X is one of them right now.

 

I just want the friends list to be lightning fast with no extra bullsh*t attached to it, so I can just invite or join a game or party without having to die 100 times ingame before it f*cking loads.

Not to sound like a company man but if you have a tablet and smartglass that can really help those issues(and others). Not sure if smartglass is worth it on a phone - I think you need a larger tablet in order for it not to piss you off.

 

Pretty sure I do all of my messaging now via smartglass. A lot of my out of game navigation is done with smartglass. Don't be fooled by the old 360 smartglass...Smartglass for the One is different and totally worth it. The best free companion I've ever seen.

I get that those can be handy.

 

The problem is it will take twice as long for me to get my phone out and load up smartglass. And it is not something I really want to have to have running for the entire time of using the xbox. I don't want another device just to control the first one because it can't control itself better.

 

It is getting better, I just think it wont be until another 6 months to a year before we start seeing a better standardized layout.

 

Remember avatars, gamerpics and themes? Remember how much they were? So much for that sh*t.

How about the way the GTA weapon wheel works? We could choose some customized pins that get assigned to a dial. Double-tap the Xbox button, use the left thumbstick to hover over an app, press A to select said app.

How many years did it take the 360 dash to make its way to what we all know and love now? I'm kind of new to the console world so I don't have my own history to draw from.

 

I like to think that MS listens to its crowd. So far they seem to be. They also seem to be designing the experience based on user input and suggestions. Smart.

I'm playing DarkSiders II right now on the 360. One of the Games With Gold deals.. kinda digging it so far but seems I liked the first one better. Perhaps it's because I'm used to the One having better visuals. Oh well, it's something new to play.

Well Sunset was developed by Insomniac, so I'd assume they were behind it. I don't think MSFT would do that.

After reading through some of the responses, I noticed that Sunset/Insomniac makes it clear that they are more flattered than offended by its usage. They also reaffirm that the font was designed by them and then subsequently redesigned as a free font called "Overdrive Sunset". Then they go on to say there's no bad blood, and that they have many projects in development with Sony.

 

I think it was completely taken out of context. I had to read through the responses to fully understand it.

Yeah, I thought it was out because a streamer and Youtuber named Swiftor was playing it, but it must have just been an early copy.

It officially releases on the 28th, one week from now, but yeah some people do have their early copies.

 

On a different note, has anyone in the program checked out the November preview update? They added background changes via high-res achievement art, and they look pretttty sweet.
