^oh, really?

The overall feeling we get from the game is that two different developers handed in two different performance levels, and decisions were made on how best to work with the results. With the PlayStation 4 averaging at 50fps and often hitting 60fps, frame-rate was left unlocked, producing the markedly higher results you see in the tables above.

For Xbox One, we can only speculate, but we suspect that a lower overall performance resulted in even more noticeable judder were the game to remain unlocked - which would look really unattractive compared to the capped 30fps frame-rate we see in the final game

Yes really! I may have got the percentages wrong as I was talking from experience and only going by the numbers in the img posted in ps4 topic. But if you read the article correctly you will realize that they said if it wasn't capped then you would get the noticeable frame drops that the ps4 suffered from witch is backed up by the end piece of the article pasted below! Of witch they go onto say that they would have liked the option on ps4 to limit the frames to 30 if desired!

In terms of the Tomb Raider gameplay experience, for all the many advantages the unlocked PS4 frame-rate brings across a range of scenarios, there are areas where the variation in performance is somewhat off-putting. Based on our initial few hours with the game, we would have liked to see an optional frame-rate limiter built into the PS4's display settings (similar to the option found in the BioShock games). This would have given those seeking maximum frame-rate the chance to exercise the muscle of the console, while those who prefer a locked, consistent, judder-free experience could have chosen that instead. Everyone's a winner in that scenario. But clearly, when Tomb Raider PS4 is running at 60fps - or close to it - the experience really is quite wonderful.

You just said it yourself. Tomb Raider on the PS4 has unlocked framerate to smooth things out on intense action therefore it isn't a bad thing. The PS4 could easily handle constant 50-60 FPS if it wasn't unlocked.

You got me wrong, I said that you admitted that the PS4 version has unlocked framerate, which you did. Lol.

Yes I did say it has unlocked framerate but nowhere did I say that was to smooth out the experience as a smooth experience would be one that is constantly locked in at a certain fps not one that drops down by 28 fps! that's far from a smooth consistent experience.

This is why the testers said they would have liked an option on ps4 to limit it to 30 as it's obvious that tombraider lowest fps is 32 so it would have made a better no juddery experience than one that try to push the ps4 hardware.

How can they? It's a port from the PS3. Use f*cking common sense for God's sake.

Common sense suggests that due to the dev team on xboxone managing to cap at 30 fps the same dev team for ps4 could have done the same. BioShock was also a last gen game and they managed to have a fps selector in it.

Well I didn't know about Bioshock doing that. My bad. But was it consistent enough? If it goes way below 30, it's not worth it.

Take the time to read the link that uticular posted earlier it's really informative. I've read it 3 times now just to make sure I understood what they were talking about pros and cons and it's pretty much in line with what I'm saying here in both topics.

as for bioshock they mention it in there at the end. I only own it on pc so as for xbox 360 and ps3 I haven't played it on those so I can't comment on that but supposedly I assume it gave players the choice to have the game uncapped with the drops or have a consistent 30 fps I assume

Perhaps those rumors could be true.

I would love a white Xbox one. But them porting halo 3-4 sounds alittle off, though.

As far as those rumors go; I love how a gaf post is being cited in articles put out by other news agencies(yahoo and such). I want to believe, but if a gaf post is what is being used as 'proof'...well...you can understand my skepticism.

I believe the X1 will see that reassignment of memory to boost graphics that has been talked about recently. That wasn't in the gaf rumor though.

I was using kinect voice recognition on my Xbox One to look for some sweet porn of hard working miners all covered in sweat and coal.

"Bing, sexy miners".

A few hours later I got a visit from the police.

It's not surprising, anyone using Bing is clearly insane and needs to be locked up.

Digital Foundry analysis on which is the better media player (PS3,PS4,XB1).

User reports of compromised 24Hz playback on the Xbox One, however, are disturbing for a console so heavily focused on non-gaming usage. 24fps is a core part of the Blu-ray specification, and any modern device worth its salt should be able to correctly handle that frame-rate without issue. Indeed, the PS3 plays back material at 24Hz flawlessly without introducing any unwanted side effects, and we found the PS4 to be equally solid in this regard. And yet we are on shaky ground with Xbox One. Initially we found the machine outputting a solid 24Hz signal free of any anomalies, but testing a number of discs over a two-hour period revealed some serious audio sync issues where the sound would often lag behind the video by a couple of seconds regardless of what audio setting is selected, making films viewed in this mode unwatchable

It it's Xbox One's poor showing overall that saddens us. This is a piece of hardware built from the ground up to be the centre-piece of the living room - but its innovative OneGuide TV functions have no support outside of the USA, there's zero respect for 50Hz content and there are fundamental problems with playback of disc-based media, while we have issues with the all-important Netflix client, which simply isn't fit for purpose in its current state

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-ps4-vs-xbox-one-which-is-the-better-media-player

tl;dr

- Winner is PS3

Yeah read that article. It's funny, the XB1 was designed more for the living room and YET it cannot even deliver. PS4 beats it in that aspect and that's heavily focused on gaming. Even the PS3 beats it.

Hehe ^

How do you early adopters feel about this?

http://www.vg247.com/2014/01/31/senior-publishing-source-confirms-new-cheaper-xbox-one-release-for-2014/

I hope it's not discless, it'll give them an excuse to bring back the drm.

Could be MS attempt at the "steam machines".

One digital console and the regular Xbox One. Just remember these are still rumors.

Dude, I don't want your PS4

I guess I have to post this in this thread, b/c it was not worthy of its own thread. They even said I should post it in the Xbox One official thread. What? If anything I should have posted it in the official PS4 thread you dumbsh*t. Quit jerking off to your PS4 you thread monitor.

Okay, as you all probably already know I went ahead and got a next gen. console on release day last year. Even went to the midnight premiere, really just to get out of work the next day, which is an excellent excuse. I got an Xbox One. I have really enjoyed it. I never had any of the issues that some people complained about. My disc drive was up to par, I wasn’t getting kicked out of games, not even BF4, I know that a lot of people did though. DR3 co-op worked like a charm. Cod: Ghosts is okay, just okay though. Infinity Ward is the same every time they come out with a Cod title. No changes hardly. But you all already know this. I am a satisfied customer though.

Why is it every time, either on this forum, or on the web, or at a local Gamestop, do guys insist that I drop everything, sell my Xbox One, or trade it in for a huge loss for a PS4? I know that a lot of guys are really passionate regarding there consoles or pc’s and I get it. But really, you guys are trying to sell girl scout cookies to a guys that works at Keebler, so to say.

I like Microsoft. I don’t spend too much money on video games per year. I purchase at most maybe one to four Xbox Live games a year and maybe four to six games for the consoles itself, and that is at most.

Look, some people buy Apple. I buy Samsung. Its not that Samsung is so much better then Apple. I just like them better. The phone suites me better. There is nothing wrong with Iphones. At the time I purchased my Galaxy S 3, I think the Apple Iphone 4S was out. Side by side comparison was a huge difference in screen size. I wear contact lenses. I needed the larger screen for my eyesite. So Samsung is what I purchased.

I don’t care about FPS. If I’m only getting 30 FPS on Xbox One, but I could have 60 FPS on PS4, I’m not going to go trade in my Xbox One for a PS4 over that. Look, back in the day I used to play Doom on Windows 3.1 on a twelve or thirteen inch monitor. Have any of you seen it? 30 FPS doesn’t bother me. Everything looks good on a 120 hrtz. or higher HDTV, to me atleast.

I get that Microsoft is offering you $100 dollars torward selling your PS3 to get an Xbox One. But that ain’t us. Us meaning the Xbox guys.

Another reason I made this its own thread is because this topic comes up in every next gen post on this forum. If the topic was about an Xbox One title, someone will say “get it on PS4 and that will fix your problem.” Go through them and see. PS + offers this, Xbox Live offers this. It is so old of an argument I think most are finally tired of it including me. That’s why I try not to argue with PS4 guys anymore. To each his own. So please, just stop and enjoy the next gen. times. I am.

I like Xbox as much as Playstation, but there's no denying that Sony has MS in their back pocket. I hope that changes though.

theres two things I wished microsoft would do, first lose the kinect and bring the price down, and if they don't want to bring the price down they could bundle it with a game or two instead, second thing they should use the share feature that they were talking about and make it so xboxes on the same network can play together without buying two copies of the same game.

System update on February 11th,

  • Storage Space Management - The ability to see and manage your storage space. With this update, you will find it easy to find how much space your content takes up and better manage your content.
  • Control Your Install Lineup - You can also control your install lineup and more easily manage your download queue. We’ve separated My Games and My Apps into separate lists, so you can easily create separate queues for both. Now you can pick the order in which you want your content to load and we’ve added a boot progress indicator so you can better track updates while they load.
  • Xbox One Controller Battery Indicator - The battery power indicator is back! You can see it right on the home screen, so you can easily track how much battery life is left on your controller.
  • USB Keyboard Support - And, you will be able to use your USB keyboard with your Xbox One.

There's also talk of another update coming sometime late this month or early March to prepare the game for TitanFall, and also improving Party Chat.

I saw that list today. Those are some well needed changes. They said there were some other changes but they didn't want to say yet.

You know what they need to change IMO? The clock on the bottom right of the dashboard screen!!! For some stupid ass reason it fades away after a few seconds. There is no reason it needs to fade away.

Funny side story:

I'm trying to figure out what triggers this but sometimes when I'm playing with my dogs the xbox hears something and changes the tv to Univision(one of the US Spanish only channels).
