I god hope not that it's not Region-locked, I want to be able to buy Japanese games from aboard. About the PS2-PS3 discs, I think PS3 games should work I hope, but I'm not sure about PS2.. but we'll see.

Springy triggers are only good for shooters, soft triggers are far superior for racing games because you can control your speed much more easily

I don't agree with that at all. I had Gran Turismo 5 on my PS3 prior to selling it, and I have Forza 3 for my Xbox 360 right now, and I always felt like I had superior control of my speed with the Xbox 360's triggers than the PS3's triggers. With the PS3, I have to exert so much effort into pushing the triggers that it's hard to find much of a medium between full acceleration and not accelerating at all, whereas with the 360's springy triggers I can easily fluctuate my speed. Even if I put only a tiny bit of pressure in, I can still accelerate just a little, and I never felt like I could do that with the PS3's triggers - they always felt like all or nothing. Shooters are a non-issue for me because I never plan on playing either a first person shooter or a third person shooter on consoles, the only exception being something like GTA V where I quite frankly don't have a choice (at least, I won't initially).

 

There's really nothing that will ever make me like the PS3's triggers. They left an awful impression on me, and I know I'm definitely not alone in feeling that way.

Alright fair enough,I think Xbox triggers are harder to control vwith racing because they are harder to depress and the depression isn't gradual, But whatever, each to their own.

Depends on what hardware is inside the next PlayStation how powerful too. The fat PS3 played PS2 games because it had the the PlayStation 2 "Emotion Engine" CPU chip inside and played PS1 games through software emulation. If the PS4 has a processor which isn't cell based, then I reckon PS3 games won't be emulated. You could have the PS3's chips built inside the PS4 but it would add to the cost quite a lot.

^ Actually no, 60 GB PS3s played ALL PS2 games, 80 GB played some, and my 40 GB released in 2008 - didn't play any--only PS1 games.

I think a big selling point for me is if it'll have PS2 backwards compatibility. There are still a lot of PS2 games I missed out on and want to go back and play. It should be inexpensive enough to include the emotion engine chip by now, or failing that, they should be able to emulate it with whatever CPU will be in the PS4 (likely x86-64 based).

 

PS3 bc looks like a problem, but I've been reading rumors that cloud gaming may offer some sort of work around. I don't see it being effective for a while though. The latency in cloud gaming will be a problem as well as the heavy bandwidth usage. Hopefully some of the more successful PS3 titles will be released on PSN if nothing else.

Even if it's an announcement of an announcement, I'm pretty excited. While I primarily game on Xbox, the potential release of a new PlayStation gives me butterflies. My PS3 has been worth it for the exclusives I've played, and blurays, of course.

While I am not a fanboy and will go for which console offers the best gaming experience I think Sony are more interested in gaming itself then Microsoft and I think the consoles shall reflect this.
