I am actually very surprised that the Xbox One sold so well, considering it's pre-release reception and all. Definitely not as good as the PS4's but still surprising.

Don't know why the xbox one is not in south africa yet. The ps4 is sold out everywhere and I would buy a X1. If it was available.

Same here in the netherlands, not even a release date!it's easy to buy one in germany but still, it's lame.Fingers crossed it releases before christmas this year.

E3 is when they're probably going to announce a hard drive with bigger space.

Also, GI has a good article about the MS/Machinima advertisement.

Good article? LMAO.

Fanboy at it's best. I would think that someone like you would at least admit this is a desperate, and ridiculous way of promoting their product. All those people who accepted payments are sell outs.

Now everyone knows that these people are going to be biased towards the XB1. Hahaha.

It's funny that Microsoft don't want to see people expose anything about the Xbox, so they use this dirty politics to distract the audience and not let people say whatever they want about the xbox.

I enjoy a good laugh after a hard day of working.

You're an idiot if you think other companies don't do this.

Boohoo. They're paying Youtubers to promote the X1. You people will find anything to complain about.

All it shows is that MS are aggressive in supporting the X1. I see ads of X1 everywhere around NY. Boohoo.

No, advertising is good. Of course ads are everywhere, but NO company pays YouTubers to sell themselves out and act biased towards it. That isn't marketing, that's dirty politics. You're in PLAIN denial if you think this is a good thing. It's not the same thing as ads in NY, you must be retarded.

Why don't you post anything about Sony paying YouTuber's to act biased towards their product? You can't though can you? Because they've already had a better reaction towards them. Everyone is talking about them and the product is simple and was handled in a simple and effective way.

Apple doesn't do this. Samsung doesn't do this. Even Nintendo don't do this and they aren't even proper competition alongside MS and Sony.

What? IGN has never been paid by Sony, nor has GI, nor has YouTube, nor has any other magazine at all. Sony have their own magazine as it is so they don't need to. I'm pretty sure even Microsoft does as well, but it's clearly damage control. However, gaming companies like Activision do their dirty work by paying IGN to give them reviews for their games even though it's changed in the past year or so.

That is what I mean which is why I said they are paying them in such a way they have to be biased towards the product. Non disclosure, in this case has been forced upon the YouTubers so that they can't say anything about the XB1. If it was the other way round, then who the f*ck cares. The worst thing is that any random f*cker who isn't reliable or hasn't touched the XB1 is going to promote the console.

Bad move, MS. Bad move.

And how exactly would you know what all those companies do? Do you work for all of them?

Your blind hatred of MS is ridiculous now. Plain ignorance if you think other companies don't do this. Guess what? I'm still getting the X1. Trivial BS likes this means sh*t to me. Why do you come here if you hate said product? I have nothing against Sony or Nintendo but do you see me posting negative sh*t in their respected threads? No

Seriously, grow up. Don't ever even bother to reply to any of my comments anymore. Sick of your sh*t.

As far as I can tell that's terms of a contract with machinima. And from my experience of contracts with business and corporations it's pretty standard terms that you don't go round slagging off the company or give it bad press.

The problem isn't with Microsoft paying YouTubers to advertise, the problem is that they're forcing them to agree to non-disclosure to do it, which is in violation of FTC regulation and is illegal.

Not just the U.S but it is illegal in the UK and EU too, (according to the office of fair trading and European Commission).

Most gamers do not have proplem with M$ Advertising, but what M$ doing here is both illegal and unethical.

Calm your tits guys. Microsoft is a business, so is Sony. Look up the definition of business. At the end of the day they're both in it for the money, not for the smiles on gamers faces. You can't live on smiles. Find me one business that is profitable not ripping of their consumers, you can't. I wouldn't be surprised if Sony had done something similar in the past. I hate how everyone is like "Sony is for the gamers, they said so! Microsoft isn't, they're all about the money!" Wrong. I give credit to Microsoft to actually being honest about their business plans and strategies, where as Sony just feeds off of exaggerated statements hiding the fact from gamers that they are also a power hungry and greedy company who also has a lot of debt and might be facing bankruptcy (http://www.technobuffalo.com/2014/01/02/sony-has-78-chance-to-go-bankrupt-in-two-years-says-macroaxis/). Microsoft isn't desperate, Sony is. Kaz, Jack Tretton, and the Microsoft equivalent are all getting paid triple figures to say their companies console is the greatest, they actually all couldn't care less about the gamers as long as the checks keep rolling in. You think these men would preach their companies consoles if they weren't getting paid? No, no they would not. You and I all know we would talk positively about our hated consoles if we were getting paid too. It's not classless, it's not unethical, and it's not about the gamers, it's business, and it's all about the money.

It's a weird situation. Looks like it was gonna be a standard sponsorship campaign, but Machinima didn't make it clear that the Youtubers had to say they're part of a promotional campaign or that Xbox is sponsoring them, which ends up being a breach of FTC guidelines. We could just blame it solely on Machinima for being retards, but Microsoft would have a lot to gain from them f*cking up this way. One thing's for certain: Machinima f*cked up.

I got rid of the post (and the quote of this) that started getting "flamey" -- I'm not going to waste my time cleaning up individual posts.

Keep is civil-- NO PERSONAL ATTACKS.... like "Go _____ yourself"

Why does anyone care what console others are on???

I like Sony only because I prefer the controller-- it's symetric... thats the only reason I own a Playstation and not an xbox....Period.

The promotion In question if you actually read it here: http://pastebin.com/vec6vjv5 is between the youtuber and machinma and is a completely optional contract. Those who don't wish to partake in the xbox one promotional special don't have to and obviously those who do and sign the contract agreement are agreeing to the terms to get paid.

Throw around the fanboy tag all you want franklin but machinimas contract with the youtuber has nothing to do with Microsoft policy.

@Oyster.... If you are promoting a product for a company, you have to disclose it. That is the Law.

M$/Machinma clearly states that "May not say anything negative or disparaging about Machinima, Xbox One, or any of its games and must keep the details of the promotional agreement confidential".

So, I really don't know why anyone would defend such a shady practice.

You only have to say that you're promoting a product, not the details of the promotion. The statement quoted is not in any way breaching any FTC guidelines; it's telling the person that they can't disclose details of the contract, not that they can't say they're doing a promotional campaign.

The problem is that Youtubers are stupid, and the contract, or at least an email, should have said that they need to make it clear that they're doing a promotional campaign for the Xbone. Since the Youtubers did not say that but were getting paid to compliment the Xbone, they broke FTC regulations; it was Machinima's job to make sure they did not break any laws, but they failed to do so. Microsoft may be at fault if it was aware of this but did not demand immediate action from Machinima. We don't necessarily have any proof that MS is at fault, but we can make assessments, which may or may not be correct.

I like it. It is heavier with a slightly more solid feel over the 360. The analog sticks are a hair looser.

Someone mentioned huge patch for DR3??? Is that a real patch or the DLC that I think is releasing today?

Well my assessment of the situation is I assume machinma sell a certain amount of views to Microsoft and that's what Microsoft pay for. Like you said we can't know for sure but by the looks of the contract those are terms between machinma and the youtuber to be entitled to payment not directly from Microsoft.

But I have noticed certain lapses in youtube adds recently if they are covered by any form of advertising standards whatsoever. An add came on for a Facebook game the footage was obviously rendered footage and not actual game play but nowhere did it state in the add that it wasn't actual game play witch I beleive is required when advertising a product.

Don't get me wrong it's a bit shady but like I have said before these laws just assume that the general population are retards and are incapable of free thought. When in reality that's far from the truth we can make up our own minds wether to get a product whether they are getting paid or not.

I also read this morning that apparently mcn has been offering the same sort of deal for EA titles pc ps4 and xboxone so it looks like this may just be the beggining.

Yup. Exactly. Just the beginning.

It is easy to forget that the home video game industry is still somewhat young. There have been a boat load of 'experiments' to better profit margins and trying to have your product be in the front of the pack.

Business is business...all companies are greedy ass bastards that want money, and they will try to scheme up any tricks possible. Some work, some don't, some fade away, and some even backfire. My money is one this MS and Machinima dealie just fades away. Everyone knows about it, and it just isn't sneaky enough to fool people.

And since this is the Xbox one topic...Yup that DR3 patch looks huge. It is downloading for me now. I wanted to see if the DLC was available - now I have to wait for this huge initial update first.

I'm too lazy to poke around - anyone know what this patch does? Did the DLC release yesterday?

I heard the patch reworks a lot of the code and improves performance. You download 13GB but it only adds 1GB to the game because its replacing a lot of things in the game,

Funny part about the DR3 for me was last night I turned on the Xbox One. DR3 updated instantly. Not 15 min. It took literly 5 seconds or less. Than I go to the Xbox Store to download the new DLC for it. It only took like 15 seconds. Not sure if it updated while my Xbox One was off the whole day. Not sure.

IGN had a big article regarding the DR3 patch and DLC. They said something regarding 13 GB. I look last night and today, they removed the article completley.

Ahhh... the snow storm took out my internet and I just got it back a bit ago. I wonder if mine would have updated overnight.

So the DLC is up? Cool. The snow shut down the city and I am trapped in my house. I was hoping to play the DR3 DLC to stave off cabin fever.

My dead rising 3 update is taking a while. I won't be buying the DLC for £8, it only includes a new mission and a couple of outfits and weapons, as if we didn't have enough anyway.

Battlefield looks out of this world on Xbox one! I had it for 360 and I was not impressed but this has made me love it! Just the maps suck a bit, so going to have to buy premium which means I would of spent a total of £130 on battlefield 4 -360 version

- one version

- premium

DICE planned that well didn't they.

Also what is the tomb raider game like? The definitive version comes out end of this month but it's £45, how long is it? Is it worth it?

I'm missing GTA V aswell actually... why can't they bring out a definitive version for next gen? oh wait they only made 1 billion dollars on release they couldn't possibly afford that
