My predictions:

 

-The console will likely be named, Playstation. Not PS4.

 

-Console will still have free online play as usual, but PSplus will be recommended by Sony.

 

-Gaikai will be added to PSplus as an exclusive PSplus perk.

 

-Sony will likely buy both Quantic Dream and Insomniac Games.

 

-Infamous 3, Little Big Planet 3, Killzone 4, Ape Escape 4, Fallout 4 (with bethesda) will all be announced.

 

-Sony will announce it has backwards compatibility to PS1 titles, as usual, but access to PS2 titles will be digital only, and no PS3 backwards compatibility will be available, at least at launch.

 

-Sony will announce a new version of PSmove.

 

-Sony will announce a new open console design, where users can make games and submit them to sony servers for PS user ratings. Similar to STEAM Greenlight.

 

-Remakes of certain sony 1st party games may finally take place.

You can buy a Mac with an Ati Radeon HD5870, but it doesn't have directx because directx is microsoft exclusive. Plus directx isn't that good anyway, OpenGl* also get's the job done..

The PS3 uses OpenGL, actually, whereas the Xbox 360 uses DirectX 9.

I seriously hope not, that'll just be another huge let down all over again.

 

They did that with the PS3 and showed us amazing looking games like Eight Days and The Getaway 3. Turns out we never got any games that even look half as good as either of them until the end of the console cycle, bit of a pisstake to be honest. They built the expectations up way to high that showcase. And i serously doubt the PS3 could even handle the versions they showed us of the games like Eight Days or The Getaway 3.

You should actually go and look back, a lot of what we have now looks BETTER than those videos, a lot of the CG stuff shown off back looks a bit plasticy now.

That is one seriously ugly (and cheap-looking) controller, I hope it's fake or if it isn't, an early design and the final model will look much better.

I actually love DualShocks but it seems this one will be the worst one by far. Did they really have to add a big ass touch-pad that will only be used in some launch games and then ignored later (just like Sixaxis) instead of the 'Select' and 'Start' buttons? I don't think it really matters, but why try to fix what isn't broken? Yes, I know DualShock3 isn't perfect but the main complaints were about it's (slightly) small size and the shape of the L2/R2 triggers (which they fixed according to leaks). Nobody asked for a silly touch-pad as far as I know, though.

One of the main complaints about the Dualshocjk design was that it's too small and light compared to the Xbox 360 controller, another complaint was that the analog sticks wern't indented, this design looks to fix both of those whilst incorporating some new stuff. It's not about how it looks but about how it FEELS.

I think it must be very comfortable. It's bulkier and the analog sticks are concave, like in the X360's one.

 

And there seems to be a small microphone in between the sticks. Could be used to log in the system, browse the menu and use it for multiple purposes in the games.

That blue thing on top might be a Move peripheral, and it looks like a headphone jack(?) could be seen sticking out in the bottom.

 

Also those analog sticks might not have their covers yet, them rubber things.

Honestly I think that design looks great. I hated the DualShock 3, but this design seems to fix most of the issues I had with it. I just want to know if the L2/R2 triggers are fixed (and I don't just mean the shape - use some better springs this time, Sony, instead of the mushy sh*t you were using before).

You have to remember that the controller is likely some prototype. That machine it is connected to looks likes an early dev kit.

Could be that they sent that prototype to devs to hide the real final consumer design. And also, didn't devs start to receive dev kits quite a while back? This could be some old prototype... I'm sure they went through MANY designs until they came up with the final design.

 

Heck, even the boomerang controller they showed when they unveiled the PS3 didn't end up as the final controller.

The final version will probably be less bulky. That's the general rule of prototype > final version.

I really do hope it comes to fruition, personally. I feel like the only person that is genuinely interested in it, but maybe I'm just the only person here that isn't interested in yet another generation of the exact same controller when I've had so many alternatives to choose from over the past decade, most of which I found to be significantly more comfortable. I don't know why Sony fans seem so intimidated by change with their controllers.

I seriously don't understand what people think is so bad about the PS3 controller. I for one, after playing a sh*tton of Xbox360 with basic Xbox360 controller liked going back to a PS3 (dualshock) controller. My friends all prefer the Xbox360 controller because 'it's quality/bigger'.

 

I just like the finesse of a PS3 controller. Yes, triggers could be somewhat better (which is great about a Xbox controller... fire triggers are actually triggers).
