TommyVercetti.
Ok, here's a little something I found interestng. Yesterday I started a new game on Vice City. After playing through a few missions I got a call to go to the pay phone. I took a mission called "Autocide" It's where you kill some British gangsters that are undercover and are getting ready to rob a bank. Well they all have names. After about two or three, the message said " Kill Marcus Hammond and Fransico Carter" I thought to myself British gangsters+ Marcus Hammond+Franisco Carter= A somewhat coincidence to The Getaway. Fransico Carter could be Frank Carter, and Marcus Hammnd could be Mark Hammond. Coincidence Or Not?
-Gnobe-
i think this has been mentioned on the forums somewhere cb4 but im not sure its a good find anyway
Lance_Vance_Dance
Actually to tell yuo the truth vice city stole this from the getaway because the getaway was supposed to be released on the first playstation but got transferred to the ps2, they had the names in place already and R* found out from them, so they changed it around abit to do a little sppof on the getaway. Warmaster129
It's not stealing. It's just R* having a bit of fun by having their character kill the other game company's characters.
TommyVercetti.
Oh thanks for the info LVD. I never knew that would steal something from The Getaway.
dizzy_gopher
Remember, now, that The Crapaway Getaway was a movie first, and was a rip of a better film, The Italian Job so don't think games rightaway. Also, Mark Hammond, Hammond, and Mark, are common names in Enlandish. And Carter, too, I recon.
Samoth
All the names in the autocide mission are from GTA clone characters. It's a spoof. Does anyone else think that The Getaway was shit?
AZAZEL
This HAS been mentioned before in these forums! By me actually! Please frikin search next time, ok? @dizzy_gopher: Yes the names may be common, but in the mission "Autocide", they ride togheter in a Bobcat, what's the odds for that? @Samoth: I had a bit of fun with it, but it was very limited. You complete it, and then throw it away.
Samoth
I thought the Getaway would be great. I mean, like a interactive Lock stock & two smoking barrels/snatch type of deal. But I soon realized that the makers were unimaginitive wankers.
Mini-Gun
VC has a lot of videogame spoofs. "Win Cash , Not Kudos" is a rip of Midnight Club or some game like that and supposedly the "Pole Position Club" is named after a classic Atari game. TommyVercetti.
Well I'm very sorry Azezel, because I didn't spend anhour looking through every sigle topic to see if this has been said before. And if it has Goody Gumdrops!
El_capitánSZ45
Theres also Nick Kong (True Crime) and Charlie Dilson (Charlie Jolson) spoofed as well on that mission

GTA3Freak-2001
"Win Cash , Not Kudos" is a rip of Midnight Club or some game like thatNo not Midnight Club, you mean Metrpolis Street Racing on DC and Project Gotham Racing on Xbox. Vice city also has a reference to another video game, anyone who has looked at the pogo the monkey arcade machine in the pizza place would notice that the screen is basically mario with pogo the monkey stuck onto it. D@3mOniT3
Does anyone else think that The Getaway was shit? it wasen't sh*t.. u can't compare it to grand theft auto because they are 2 entirely different games. whoever says these games are exactly alike is retarded. the getaway is a f*ckin great game.. it has sh*tty replay value unlike gta games, but how many games can compare with gta for replay value? not many. imo the driving in the getaway was f*cking awesome. much more realistic than vice city. the cars were also so much cooler. i would not buy the getaway.. but it's still a great game.. not as good as vice city tho

Now, if you had played TG, you would know that it's not only the replay value that is very bad, but the controls too! Damn they are frustrating! You can take other people hostage, but it's nearly impossible to use it deffensive, because of the frikin' controls! Gotta hate it. I completed it in 'bout 12 hours... not that hard. EDIT: oh, forgot to add... It looks pretty damn stupid when the characters are running! It's like their torso is stuck in the air, and the legs are just moving up and down almost like you shadow when you're riding a bike...
D@3mOniT3
Now, if you had played TG, you would know that it's not only the replay value that is very bad, but the controls too! Are u implying that I haven't played the getaway? what, u think i just saw commercials for it and evaluated it on that? well, actually i played and beat it, so i do know what i'm talking about. i suppose it's all a matter of taste tho. i liked it because of the realism. mainly having to rest after being shot (even tho this is not very real either, after u get blasted with a shotgun or ak u can just lean against a wall and heal up magically) and the driving. GTA doesnt have sh*t on the getaway in terms of driving. i agree the controls are somewhat sh*tty, but i mean come on.. u get used to them pretty quick... You can take other people hostage, but it's nearly impossible to use it deffensive, because of the frikin' controls! Gotta hate it. I never took hostages during a gunfight.. ur right its way too f*cking hard to maneuver. but that doesnt really matter.. if u want to take hostages play dead to rights. i'm not saying that the game is flawless, obviously. but all in all if ur not real picky then this is a good game, IN MY OPINON. some people just can't handle the controls i guess... Sorry, but you wrote that you would never buy it, so I assumed that you've never played it. And you could have read some reviews, and evaluated from that. Well, I've beat TG aswell, and as for getting used for the controlls... I never did. I would say I'm a quick learner, and masters the PS2 controller very good, but still the controls in TG was so different from other games, and didn't make any sense to me. No, of course controlls aren't everything, but a very important factor of the gameplay, which is very important for me to say it's a good game. As the maker of VC said: "I would never sacrifice gameplay for realism" I think that TG does exactly that, and personaly I thinks it makes that game broing But hey, it's a matter of taste like you said. Samoth
GTA doesnt have sh*t on the getaway in terms of driving. I have no idea what you possibly could have smoked in order to think that the driving is more fun in TG than in GTA3/VC. I thought The Getaway was boring. No charm to it at all, only a stupid monkey looking main character with ugly animations and a stupid control interface.
Ballistic Jello
Vice City and Getaway cannot be compared because even though they may be classified in the same genre, technically, they are totally different. Vice (and Rockstar as a whole) tried to put more of a comic and fun experience in their games. The Getaway's main focus was on realism. Real cars, a real city, an attempt at real handling. TG tried to put you into the game, to show you what it would really be like to have that as a career. Vice wanted you to have fun. I love the whole realism aspect that they tried to put in the Getaway. The real cars are what really did it for me. Kind of the same feeling I got with Gran Turismo. Nothing more fun than tooling around in a Skyline, except maybe a PCJ in Vice. Don't compare Vice and TG, please. They're meant to compete in the same market, but they're two totally different approaches.
AZAZEL
Well, nobody compared them! Actualy we both said that they couldn't be compared. @Samoth: There's actualy two main characters in TG, MarK Hammond and Frank Carter
The Killa
u gotta admit that TG city was bigger and cooler. I really like the getaway because I live in USA so i never really know london. And TG is better than vice. I know my PM will be flooded after saying that but its my opinion.

Ballistic Jello
They can be compared, just not on how they approach the genre. You can compare Quake III: Arena and Ghost Recon as first person shooters, but not in how they approach it. You can in like statistics, such as square miles (or km for the european dudes) or # of cars, etc.

The only thing that makes TG look superior is the sharp graphics, that's about it. In -my- opinion, The Getaway was just a copy of Grand Theft Auto only enhanced to make it look like it was not. GTA was in London also.
