Why so negative?

Why are so many people so negative about GTA V Online on this forum? I've been gaming for over 30 years; Atari 2600, Commodore 64, all the way to PS4. Do you realize you only paid $60 for this game, and it came out four years ago. All of the DLCs have been free. If everything in-game was super cheap, than we would of been bored of this game ages ago because you would have everything without much effort.

In my opinion, GTA Online is the best game I've ever played. No, it's not perfect, but I surely got my $60 worth. Why does everybody complain? Is anybody happy with this game? I think the hate outweighs the love for this game on this site, like 10:1. Love this game, it's the best, or at least, one of the best games of all time.

there's unlocking content and then there's pricing ingame content higher and higher without increasing the rate you earn money thus turning the game into a grind designed to make you either buy sharkcards or spend days if not weeks grinding the same missions over and over to buy lacklustre dlc content - presuming rockstar doesn't decide to take your money for sh*ts and giggles.

Well OP you arent the only person on the entire planet that has been gaming for that long. For me specifically, its not GTAO but rather the economy imbalance in which how things are priced versus how much we get paid. Or how content and DLCs are delivered and how a third of it is locked away under time gates in which we all have to sit through all in the name of pacing out content. Ive seen a lot of games do this new thing called time gating content. The worst idea that has ever come from the gaming industry just like Pay to win schemes or cash shops to restock a resource.

The way game companies do business now is a far cry than what it used to be 15 years ago.

Its real simple. Its what the internet community is populated by; a bunch of people with more opinions than common sense and human decency. No real jobs and responsibilities (but somehow have plenty of money...🤔) to occupy their excessive amounts of free time and finally a sh*t ton of misplaced anger, rooted in the obvious resolve of their overall sh*tty lives. 🤗

As much as it seems like this entire forum is filled with whiners the reality is probably more like a very vocal and relentless minority who can't help but complain.

It stands to reason that the overwhelming majority of people playing the game enjoy it or else it wouldn't be as popular as it is.

Maybe someone can tell me since it boggles my mind; Why come to a forum for a game you no longer play or even dislike? Years ago I enjoyed Civilizations and frequented a forum related to the game...once I grew tired of the game I never felt the need to return to the forum and wallow about the state of the game.

Where are you getting that $60 number? A lot of people here play on the X1/PS4 which wasn't a one-buy type of deal, we've had to buy the game twice. Not only from the $60 from last-gen but, at least for me, around $70-$80 for current-gen as a digital download. Sure, you could stick to last-gen and be stuck with a hoard of modders and script-kiddies or get it on PC if you have a decent PC. If my grade 2 math is incorrect then that's at least well over $60. A $120 game usually comes with a statue.

Many people confuse constructive criticism with complaining, although I do have to agree that the latter is more prominent. Not only that, I'm part of that group. It's hard to grow up idolizing Rockstar and then seeing them turn into a villain. Greedy. Scummy. Villain. You can't ignore their business plan (which, as mentioned, RedDagger's thread is a must for understanding their new approach). I do hope that the "complaining" isn't paired up with the constructive criticism as the game does require a lot of love. I won't get into it cause it's been covered more than Sasha Grey but the bottom line is how easily accessible the game is. Not only for new players, which are f*cked from the start, but for players playing the game as intended. "Legit" players, which I was a proud sponsor of back in the day. No glitches, no heist grinding (too lazy though that is a legit tactic). Nah, I was tried and true; I went for the missions, survivals, daily objectives and selling Sandkings here and there. Now? I've glitched and I'm still around 10mill cause I'm a pussy when it comes to those types of things.

There's a graph somewhere that showed what the amount in terms of shark cards (real money) is required to own all the new DLC items, most precisely the vehicles and hangars (I believe, unsure about hangars). It was something around the $800 mark. I really should find that graph before talking out of my ass but it was an absurd amount. That's well over $60. Again, sure, you can ignore all the DLC and be a poor player that's still drooling over a Dukes. Pay To Win is what GTA has become rather than GTA IV's Play To Win as well RDR. If RDR2 follows the GTA:O route you can bet that the complaining will come in larger forces.

It's annoying to see the backlash, sometimes fueled by pure rage, so trust me as I see your point of view but from experience I've come to realize that just like my childhood Rockstar is dead. This isn't the GTA that I grew up with and I do realize that I'm one of those moany fanboys that keeps saying, "back in my day it was better!" but it's true from a certain angle. I feel sorry for any kid growing up with the current GTA. They'll come to realize that a wallet makes a winner or at least gives him an edge. Now if you ignore the "win" aspect such as being actually good at the game but rather just enjoy the game (say, just joining car meets which is still amazing) then I agree that the game is absolutely stunning. It's beautiful. It's addicting. It provides hours and hours of fun but sadly Rockstar don't push that aspect as much as they should.

P.S - I also want to add (mostly in reply to those above me) that there are, in my opinion, two types of people with money: rich kids with their parents credit card on their account and those that go out working and have to buy shark cards to game with friends and not be left out. Now there's another two types of people with NO money: losers like myself that have to grind cause I can't spare money on in-game currency and I think it's retarded and those who give in cause they love the game. None of these are bad (well...maybe the rich kids one) but at the end of the day it's your game, it's your money, do as you please.

Lastly, I firmly believe we're the 1%, as entitled as that sounds. Now I'll be assuming (making an ass of you and me) by bunching the whole forum as "We". We hate Youtubers, we don't buy shark cards (at least we try, not judging any of you!) and we devour the DLC within hours of it releasing as well as making DLC threads before the DLC is released. There's a much larger group of players that aren't on the forums and they're the ones that are fueling GTA. So, say, we completely boycott shark cards in hopes of making a dent in Rockstar's finances we'd be barely scratching the surface due to the larger player base not on the forum who didn't get the memo (and who probably don't care cause it's their money).

And yes, shark card post cause that's the root of all evil and it's a good moaning starting point.

tl;dr - game is great. Could use some love. Complaining and constructive criticism are two different things. Please don't lock this thread. We'll be good.

Because it's a forum. Discussions are meant to revolve around all opinions of the game, whether negative or positive.

This is a place to come and express your appreciation or distaste of this game and have it shared by others or argued against.

If you want only positive things to be said about this game go look at filtered reviews on Metacritic or something.

well lets ring the bell hihihi i've made enough money to afford things in game, i've did grinding more than stinky fishing. i'm above rank 1000 so that means i have to likey likey the sparkly game. i do still, but i loved it more at the early stages. it's the uncrunchy direction it takes which feels a little bit ai ai ai and because i would see so much more potential with this game instead of this superficial peng peng everywhere content we are getting. i think this game speaks more and more to kids with this kind of content, it's all superficial now and nothing with substance anymore. all shiney shiney, some will be happy, some will be whiney hihihi.

As pointed out by our most excellent and passionate livejoker, above ^^^, the game has changed considerably over the last four years. But not in the eyes of the OP, probably because you haven't actually been around much?

Hey OP, and no offence to you personally, but that's the sort of question a giant GTA online noob asks! Hey, I've just bought this absolutely fantastically stupendous game for 60 bucks, and hey, what's all the negativity about? Oh, I wish I could go back to those innocent days, LOL, when all I had to do was grind a bit and everything seemed so accessible and attainable. But even experienced, long-term players are now complaining about how they can't keep up with everything the game has to offer. A great thing, but It's gotten out of hand, and prices are triple in comparison to the past, while shark cards have not been adjusted in line with in-game inflation. Missions take longer to complete than ever and have been created like this on purpose. NPCs are more persistent and incredibly accurate than ever before, and all of this occurs within a freemode environment where you are constantly subject to the griefing/trolling/lulzing whims and fancies of other online players.

But you won't understand this right now, OP, so give it a couple of years, post a thousand posts, and then come back and let us know how you feel. It will undoubtedly be different.

I've been gaming just as long, maybe longer OP and I agree it's up there with the best games ever but on the other hand it's total sh*t compared to what it should be if demented muppets weren't running the company. The original coders though, good job. Since then...

Well, I've been gaming for over 2000 years now and lemme tell ya, back in the day when I only had fish to play with I could've never even imagined a game like GTA Online.

My fear is that it'll be stretched way too long (I'm burned out as it is) and that we have to wait until way after 2020 for a new map and story.

For someone who's been playing since the first GTA came out, it feels like Online is kind of an empty shell but still better then all other games.

That being said, I'm happy with the shark card system because paid DLC is something I hardly ever consider.

--snip--

This is my perspective on the matter. I honestly don't see the issue with the negative replies or comments about this game. Tis the nature of discussion.

There's plenty of people who love this game and post positive things and that should be championed also.

Diversity of opinion is what makes this forum worthwhile.

Plus, many of the people who post here are more nuanced in their views.

One could like really one thing and seriously dislike another. It's not always so black and white in a game as huge as GTA.

I agree. It would be nice to have more people like him on the forum, who pop out of the woodwork and express what they think in a completely untainted and unaffected way. It's refreshing.

GTA online is actually a fantastically stupendous game - the best in fact, but we can't see that any more because we're so firmly up our own assess doing the daily grind and worrying about Rockstar patting their fat wallets in the background.

It's nothing to do with what you agree or don't agree with. It's because you're an asshole as a person.

Millennials ruining getting butt f*cked by companies.

Also why online sucks? It's grind fest, instead of simple missions with maybe some unlock rewards you have this ridiculous system with even more ridiculous prices. Every new item costs more than the previous, which over the four years made even the shark card worthless.

And not to mention pc version with anti cheat system buttf*cking everyone but the cheaters.
