Gta Online and Playstation Plus?

ok, i just recently tried getting online yesterday, and instead of it letting me load my character normally, it takes me to the playstation plus menu, trying to get me to sign up. i decline, and i get a screen telling me, that i need to be a playstation plus member, in order to play gta online. to my understanding, i thought this game was supposed to be run without worrying about being a playstation plus member. A couple months ago, i was able to access online without it, and now i can't. Right now, my money is stretched thin, cause i've been out of work due to the disaster in Houston due to all the rain from Hurricane Harvey, so i'm not able to get this feature, even if i really wanted to. I'm hoping someone here can give me some clarification on this, because i don't see anyone talking about it atm.

You can't play online without PS+. But you have option for 2 days PS+ trial,if you didn't used that before on your account.If you did,then create new account,activate PS+ 2 days trial and set that account as primary.Then go on your account and play game(s).
