Whats up with the planes handling?

I didn't get to test all the different handling options last night as I was limited on time, but these new planes felt extremely different.

Especially the War plane with explosive cannons (rogue I think), have they changed the way the input is on the sticks, or what?

Yes, they feel somehow different.

I was dogfighting some guys yesterday with the rogue, and they all got killed in the end, but it took a LOT longer to get hits on them.

The aim is so ridiculously fast and the way the plane moves is different, One fa**ot literally just kept doing inverted loops and it was easier for me to switch to a knife position and blast him by doing a R1 Inverted knife loop type thing, than it was to just try follow him in a standard loop because sideways the planes are much more sensitive.

I'm not mad about it or anything, It's interesting & they move so fast now that homing missiles are even more useless than they already were which is good, + flares for the odd angle Homer.

They're jumpy. My Molotok jumps around like crazy. Same with the Rogue. If they flew better I might use them more.

Maybe I'm just not used to it.

Has anyone tried with the smooth handling? to see if that actually makes a difference as far as the sensitivity of the aim ?

Happy Hunter

The Rogue felt very sensitive to me, and the rudder buttons seemed to have a lot of strength. Even with explosive rounds, it was quite difficult to hit people on foot; much harder than you'd expect anyway (possibly a good thing lol).

I wont comment about in air handing but on the ground the new planes function very weird. When you drive it on the airfield and turn left or right, instead like the old planes the new ones like nokota turn with the front wheels and almost fall on their side instead of using the rear wheel to turn.

Must be some coding bug.

If you drive the Rogue backwards on the ground with ruder full on side, it will flip to the side :D

I've put Smooth on everything and like it. f*ck knows what they do though because R* don't explain things an more, in-game or in notes. Patch notes would have explained everything new before, now they're just lists of all the sh*tty bugs they (say they) fixed.

Yea the handling feels weird on all new planes. The controls feel extremely sensitive. I noticed most on that rogue plane with the rudders. It was all over the place.

See I don't mind the new cannons... This somewhat goes with what I've been requesting in this game for years with a nerf to the explosive cannon, & while it isn't quite as weak as I'd prefer (Buzzard cannons ideally for actual skill) it's definitely a noticeable difference.

Killing people on the ground is still relatively easy, although it felt like I had to adjust for what I think is a shorter range on the cannon. Not sure if that's accurate, it certainly felt that way & therefore felt like I had slightly less time to make decisions, which is good.

But yeah the dogfight is super strange with the movement of these new planes... I wouldn't mind if they swapped the new explosive cannon onto the Laser/Hydra to be honest, that'd at least stop some of the scrubs from flying permanently.

But as some have mentioned, I wish R* would give a description as to what difference the handling modes actually make... I know it should be somewhat obvious, but it doesn't seem that way.

Really RSG need to write up a properly detailed guide on "how to play Grand Theft Auto Online" because with CEO Offices, Garages, Apartments, Warehouses, Bunkers, Hangars, Businesses, Motorcycle Clubs, Heists, etc - there's a lot to "learn" if you're a brand new player - and if you're not, the extra explanations would be welcomed anyway.

At this point, 4 years old, how many people are "new players" really... Most are probably banned players on new accounts haha.

But yeah just a bit more detail with some things would be welcomed.

A lot (for some reason)

I know a person who is playing less than a month. Also, a lot of low-level players in freemode don't know basic things.

A friend of mine said he tested different handling options on his Rogue and couldn't feel a difference.

I have the Alpha Z-1, with the Smooth option enabled, and find it very "twitchy". I haven't tried other options yet, however.

When I get home today I'm gonna test the same plane under 4 different handling modes in air races and see if it makes a difference , I doubt it will but when you have a handling mode called race, I refuse to believe that it isn't an advantage in racing lol

May be just my imagination, but the Hydra now seems to handle abit different than before the DLC.

^ Heisenberg said that it can do a sustained climb now, so they've changed one side of the thrust/weight ratio.

I haven't tried it out yet, where are these handling options located? And do they effect old aircraft (Hydra, Buzzard, Savage) or just new Smugglers run aircraft?

The handling of the new planes is garbage indeed.

Will R* do anything about it? Doubtful.

That was true yesterday, not sure what it is now. It looks like R* is constantly tweaking something and that's annoying as hell. On Rogue I decided to go for a blind test in controls and haven't seen any difference between race and sport in terms of dogfighting, but it's still superior to Hydra.

I'm not trolling, could someone, please explain me what's up with Starling, what's the point of this plane? High altitude bombing is a no-go since "bombs" despawn and what are scenarios for this thing? I'm rich as f*ck but still can't justify buying it. Maybe air maestros can shed some light on it?

The speed limit and take-off/landing physics turned some aircrafts into garbage...

Bombushka is slower than a Faggio and Starling feels like a stone after boost. Choppers can easily follow some airplanes in some missions...

I think the only decent new planes are the stunt ones, with challenging handling and "high" speeds.

Yep I said the same thing about the Rogue in terms of dogfighting the Hydra, it's definitely superior.

As for the Laser, Idk yet, haven't had time to mess around with a friend with both of us switching planes.

I like the Rogue though, it's not difficult but it's definitely more of a challenge than a Laser or Hydra to fly, which is good because it keeps the scrub masses of wannabe bums from flying it, & it potentially has a higher pay off with being the new dogfight king.

Ad for the Starling, i see no point in it either tbh... I'd buy that Red Bull plane before I bought the Starling, because at least with the red bull one you can troll tf out of fighter jets with it

The Rogue is very sensitive but I am starting to get use to it. I keep my option that controls the handling on stock. I didnt upgarde it to race or anything like that because that would make it even more difficult to control. I do really like it over all though and I am a happy Rogue owner.

I see some say the Rogue is better in a dog fight than a Hydra but I just took out a Rogue with my Hydra the other night, it wasn't even a close call. I had better cannon placements and out maneuvered it easily. I even beat one in my buzzard this morning. I think for dog fighting I will stick to my trusty jet.

Race handling for races, right, makes sense. My friend and I were joking that we may be spending money on handling upgrades that are purely "cosmetic", LoL. I wonder if engine upgrades are also "cosmetic". We need to see some straight line races.

The Sport handling completely cancels turbulence on all the planes I tried it on: Molotok, Rogue, Alpha.

I was flying a perfectly straight air plane, following my inputs without extra bounce like the Race one did (same planes with race handling = turning around like crazy)

EDIT

I fly using keyboard only

I mean, if you're shooting down Rogue users in a buzzard, that shows more about their total trashness than it does the plane itself.

In equal skill, especially with the different handling modes, the rogue outmaneuvers the Hydra trash box easily. Cannons obviously aren't as OP, but I like that, it actually takes a bit more skill to use instead of every trash motherf*cker on the game thinking they're a badass pilot because they can spray and pray with the easiest gun in the game to use.

Nobody should be using a Hydra in a dogfight anyway, it's Laser or bust, although now it's Laser or Rogue.

I think the exact same thing.

And if the handling IS doing VMT_BRAKES per the game files - and if that means "Handling" is actually "Brakes" - well I've not seen a difference there either.
