Chaff or Flares? Whats the point of smoke?

This is a Question but can also be the main place to look for this information.

I am assuming that Chaff disables Lock-On and Flares misguides missiles?

So its better to have Flares right? More capacity and you dont have to launch them right away.

What does the smoke do?

Only one and they won't store, every change for FULL price. Good luck! I'm yet to test what's better though and smoke seems pointless

The Flares are better.

You get twice the amount, they last for ages, you dont need to time them and you make people waste their Homing Launcher ammo.

yeah, just made a guy spend 10 k on homers, then he refilled, spent another 10k.

 

then he got me, and paid 1k

As soon as you hear the "missile after you" warning sounds, press whatever button it is for your countermeasures (right on the D-pad for me, Xbox360 controller). Obviously no point in using them when it's just the "missile locked onto you" sound.

 

And like reality, you could need to fire several of them for it to work.

Emitting that smoke you are probably saying "hello jet, here I am, please shoot me down!". I just watched a yellow smoking Ultralight gliding over Sandy Shores daytime though and it looked really cool. I guess this is a great gimmick for stunt and video guys. I might try flying in a formation while using smoke with some friends sooner or later, too.
