By this faulty naive logic every 80's and 90's car with an aero front end and pop up headlights has a """Ferrari DNA""" and i dont get surprised since it is common for naive people to make stupid comparisons like these...

The point is simple, the Aston Martin V8 it is in fact a exotic muscle car but has absolutely nothing to do with a mustang in real life, he is unique in its own way and have its own history and its own design.

The mix of Aston v8 and jensen we see in this game has also NOTHING to do with a mustang, and its "muscle car mods" are expected since it is technically a muscle car from a design point of view.

If you wanna pretend that this is a mustang, then go for it.. People who dont know much about cars do some crazy comparisons and thats ok they are not into cars. And if you know about cars and still feel like you can do a mustang on this car that is fine too, but at least know that you are working with something that has 0% of a mustang in it and dont be delusional

I don't quite understand how holding a wholly, and inescapably subjective opinion regarding the possible/potential origins of a purely fictional automobile has anything to do with real-world automotive proficiency and/or knowledge, but carry on. Out of curiosity, though, what qualifications and/or credentials do you have that make you such an unquestionable and irreproachable automotive authority? What does "knowing about cars" entail, in your opinion? Do you wrench on cars? Do you race cars? Are you an ardent admirer of cars?

looks more to be based on the 1978 aston martin v8 vantage, my favourite car :-) if so, theres only one colour for this to be, british racing green.

EDIT: typical americans, everything is of course American *rolls eyes*

I'm gonna try to match mine to Bond's Vantage from The Living Daylights,

I grew up with cars my entire life, work in the industry and studied about cars in areas related to my work one of which is automotive design and gestalt which is used to message understand concepts and from its conception to the final product.

My point of view of GTA cars as someone who studied automotive design is very interesting and pleasing seeing how they mix and match and interpret real world designs in their cars.

The Rapid GT is clearly based on the Aston V8 and the Jensen, i see no other design influence in it...that is how a real world car compares to the fictional.

Knowing about cars has to do with the amount of interest/time you spent learning about them (passion aside). But it is also important to say that even for people who work with cars there are many "areas" inside the topic of cars, from driving to mechanics, design, engineer, aerodynamics, painting, chassis etc.. All those areas have specialists and being specialized doesn't mean you know alot about the other areas since they all have a considerable depth.

From MY perspective as someone who studied design and work on chassis fabrication i can more than clearly see every detail and resemblance from other designs and how R* mixed and matched them to make an "unique" car and i really like this about GTA. Not many people will really catch all the subtle references that R* puts in their cars.

Well, that was genuinely unexpected. And here I thought you were just a bitter, low-rent troll with nothing meaningful to contribute and an unyielding disdain for this forum and everyone/everything in it. Color me legitimately impressed...

I still see Mustang in it, though. In the same way that I see R31 Skyline in the heavily Corolla-based Futo, and GC8 Impreza in the Evo-based Sultan RS. IMHO, the influence is there. I seldom do this, but I agree to disagree.

Not much else you can do when you come up against someone who has dedicated their life to picking apart the fine details of the origins of fictional cars.

It's noticeable that they haven't responded to Garland's comments about Aston being known to have copied many elements of the Mustang at the time but in the face of such supreme expertise I can only assume they were too busy honing their craft to spot those posts.

I kind of thought it might be partially inspired by the 60s Mustang, it's got some ShelbyGT350 looking liveries as well as Boss 302 liveries so if nothing else, R* thinks it is at least 1% a Mustang in addition to the V8 Vantage and Jensen and whatever else you want it to be.

I just wanna make it clear before someone take my words were i describe my personal life and point of view and make it a egotistical clusterf*ck. I am NO specialist in anything. I have 26 years old and im still learning and i consider myself a nobody when it comes to this.

I do however understand the principles and basics of automotive design but i am no authority in anything.. I just stated my opinion and point of view regarding this car.

I am not an active user anymore like i used to be because i got tired of how cancerous this place can be at times. People here seems more interested on personal attacks and ego display rather than to actually having a discussion (some times..not generalizing)

My opinions on this car are those, i dont consider it to be "the only truth" either so if anyone is sure that im wrong and have stuff to back them up i would be glad to be "schooled" in a civil discussion in depth about design as this is something i enjoy very much.

I am actually very pleased with this car, i always loved the aston martin v8 and NEVER would expect to see it in the game. To me thats the best car in this update, no doubt!

I hate how each discussion/appreciation thread of a vehicle always ends up with a discussion about which vehicle a car is based on, when it should be widely known that Rockstar used influences from many vehicles in their designs.

. . . Motion to declare this car an unofficial dominator classic say Aye!

Respectfully, NAY! Same as how the Banshee 900R isn't a good enough substitute for an RX-7 FD (slapping Tokyo Drift decals on it ain't fooling anyone, R*...), the Warrener isn't a decent fill-in for an Escort (thank gawd for the Retinue...), and the Tampa isn't a Mustang, either.

People need a proper Dominator Classic/Retro, and we really shouldn't settle for anything less, IMO. :rah::r*:

Btw, I get why people are seeing Mustang in there - but that's only because Bill Towns was specifically riffing on Mustang design cues when he designed it (he admitted to ...'borrowing' rear elements, in particular!). Even more so when Toyota completely ripped off the Mustang with the '73 Celica liftback:

800px-1973_Toyota_Celica_02.jpg

So yeah, you're seeing Mustang - but it's second-hand Mustang carried over from the original Aston Martin, rather than a direct Mustang influence added by R*.

I'm trying to imagine it in a Dynasty Green or Turquoise, like a vintage 65 mustang... mmmmmmmm

If only I could pinstripe the tires.

Sorry, but nay, Dominator Classic accepts no substitutes, this is an Aston.

Gnocchi Flip Flops

Calling this car a Dominator is like calling an Aston Martin Vanquish a Ford Mustang. It's an on going joke between Aston Martin, Jaguar and Range Rover. They all make cars that you could say either look like Fords or the Fords look like them. That's the case with this car. It ain't no Mustang. But the car that it's based off of is definitely regarded as a British Mustang and many think it looks like one.

Take from that what you will...

After all these cars in the last updates i dont doubt that we can get a proper dominator classic soon. I saw many "requests" coming true..things i would never expect to be in this game like a skyline, diablo, countach, hunter, f40 and more, pretty much all the dream cars and even the hunter that people love.

We definitely need more muscle cars. This Rapid GT is also a damn fine addition to the muscle car lovers (atleast to the more "exotic" muscle car lover)

Yep - after all, people assumed that the Testarossa-y front on the Infernus Classic ruled out R* adding a more thorough Testarossa, and having the Infernus Classic as a Diablo meant that a more Countach-y Infernus (like Vice City) wasn't going to happen, either.

...then R* put out both a Testarossa and a Countach in the very next update. :p

Frankly, I'm actually pretty optimistic - R* just showed the level of proper muscle customisation they can do when they put their mind to it (and without needing a Benny's conversion or lowrider mods, either!). If this curio of the brief attempt at 'British muscle' can get those kinds of mods, then imagine the same on a Dominator Classic, Gauntlet Classic, Vigero Custom, Dukes Custom, etc., and more besides!

I didn't read the topic, will go back and read after this post, but I am gonna guess it is a big long conversation about what this car is based on.

The answer is, yes.

It is based on the Vantage, Jenson, and the Mustang. All three.

That does not make it a Dominator Classic, just like slapping a green and black livery on the Tampa doesn't make it a Dominator Classic.

The Vantage and Mustang shared many design elements, and it shows here in this video game mash up even more so than real life.

I will buy this car obviously, maybe two. It has some badass mods and liveries for it. Engine sound is OK at best however. I think it belongs in Muscle class personally as well.

I hold out hope for a proper Dominator Classic, in the Muscle class, with a proper American cammed V8 sound. Hopefully a little closer to the popular mod. It's happened in the past (Reaper/Tempesta and Infernus Classic/Cheetah Classic) where we have gotten one car, and later gotten another with similar design elements. Regardless, the point still stands that there will be no Muscle class cars added anytime soon. We need some, desperately.

If there's one thing Rockstar is good at when it comes to Crappy Updates, is that they know how to make cool and good looking cars

A little disappointing in sounds. No offense to Mach  but brutish British coupes tend to sound like American muscle cars but better. Dunno what happened here.

I've just noticed that I can't see this anywhere on the game, wtf

Because its dripfed.

What does that mean?

Meaning that it's in the game right now but Rockstar is withholding the option to buy it until a random Tuesday to stretch the update out. Hence the term "dripfeeding".

Hmmm, I need this! Beautiful interior, beautiful car all around. Gonna be hard to choose between a muscle look or a more subtle classic look.
