GTAO: Worst gaming community ever?

When I turn my mike (other players convo) on I get kiddies and players can't even speak intelligently. I doubt a lot of these have IQ even hold a job. Other times their background noise so obnoxious I shut mike off. Silence is golden.

So I have my mike set to friends and crew.

Be careful who u accept as a friend - I have been wasted by so called friends. Even if y in low pop session if say 4 players any one of them could attack u. GTAO is pvp. Don't leave y player idle outside safehouse there are players who actively hunt these to mug / spawn kill.

It's much easier to be an asshole, than it is to be a kind player in this game.

Than there are a few players like me that are still nice and kind anyway.

Play the occasional golf game.

Meh. No luck with that. Do console players play golf often?

There is a crew for that. I swear all they do is play golf.

You sound pretty judgmental op, maybe you should try playing with yourself if everyone else sucks so bad.

I'm not the OP, but I play with my self plenty and it's not that fun. I would rather....removed because this isn't the place for that.

No you may not message me for anything about my joke. If you can't tell it's a joke, well......................

As a mature player over 30 I basically play as lone wolf but in crews where can join friends w same game philosophy - keep mike off avoid the kiddie chat.

EVERY online community is a terrible community.

I've only been part of 3 online gaming communities. Red Dead Redemption was my first, GTA Online is my second, and Ghost Recon Wildlands is my 3rd. I still visit all almost daily.

GTA has by far been the worst ever. I give it a 1/10.

RDR was and still is fun. 8/10 - 9/10.

GRW gets 8/10. Still has the occasional idiot. I've only crossed paths with one a s s h o l e since the game launched. Soon as he joined the room he came after me and started harassing me until I left.

GTA doesn't provide enough filters and guidelines to segregate or make people walk a certain line, like other games.

The funny thing is, that as someone who has played PS3/PS4 and PC version, not to mention various other games on all 3 systems and the X1 (for other games)... the problem isn't the GTAO community.

It's the PC community.

I have this debate often with PC guys and of course they vehemently deny it... but PC is the worst platform to play on.

It has the best hardware, for sure... the graphics are always superb on most games, and will always be ahead of the consoles...

But gaming isn't just about graphics, the community matters, the games matter, the support for games matters & so does the ease of use on the platform.

Consoles are so superior to PC in almost every other facet other than hardware:

- The UI is always easier to use and navigate

- You never have to dig around in game files to fix issues

- Games are usually made for consoles first because that's where the money is, and then a lot get ported to PC after, and they are usually poorly optimised ports that require much more power to run smoothly.

- The community is just better on consoles, it always feels like there's more people playing on the AAA games because most of the PC player base is seemingly on trash games like LoL, Dota, WoW

- Not to mention the chance of running into modders and hackers on PC on every game is greatly increased... You can't play GTAO on PC without some prick spawning you on fire, or draining your bank account. The worst thing you see on PS4 is modded profiles or glitches in the game itself being exploited, and even modded profiles aren't as common since they stopped transfers.

Oh, and add to that the fact that on PC you have to buy a separate game license if you want to play GTA on another profile, i's nonsense.

As much as the console player base can be stupid little sh*ts sometimes... I'd still rather have them than the PC player base, because the majority that I ever came across over the years were modders, or just straight up elitist attitude scrubs that weren't actually very good but kept up the whole "console peasant" thing.

As for gaming communities specifically, I'd still say CoD is worse. Because the CoD player base largely represents fake gamers, players that will only stick to one type of game.

What I despise the most is chicks that play CoD and live stream it thinking they're good... It's like, CoD has to be the easiest pick up and play game ever made, a baby could do well in it, and most CoD hardcores are f*cking garbage in every other type of genre & then don't appreciate the actual great well made games out there, such as Horizon ZD or Witcher 3 or something... those are the people that are like "Nahhh single player is trash, boring af"

Not only that, GTA encourages bad behaviour and leaves players who do not like it hanging, which more often than not all a community needs to become toxic. Compare the community in a game where cooperative play is encouraged instead of punished with GTA Online and you find a completely different demographic. That is the reason why in some games public servers are no problem at all, but public sessions/lobbies in GTA Online (on pc) have a significant share of script kiddies and other people looking for easy kills and even easier money, but hardly anyone who wants to forego their car sale and freeroam event earnings for pocket change and actually help you out as your associate (unless they are already your friend or you bribe them with modded money). Here cowards and trolls act like they are entitled to their sort of behaviour, and you know what? They are not wrong, because R* entitled them in a way.

Normally I wouldn't respond to a thread like this, it's sometimes more fun to sit and watch peoples egos fall apart when they realise the gaming universe doesn't revolve around how they wanna play the game. But while I sat here with a large bag of Cool Ranch Doritos and my classic Coke, I couldn't help thinking... wow, what a self-entitled person.

Firstly, thank you for leaving the console world. I'd hate to have run into someone as whiny and sad as you.

Speaking about whiny and sad, you've perfectly demonstrated the reason I don't have my mic on... because if I had to hear someone like you moping in my session, I'd probably just get depressed.

You think silent players can only play alone? I've completed Criminal Mastermind on Xbox One without a single word being said. Texts and waypoints are more than enough for me.

I'm sorry that you think of "people who should be on consoles" in a derogatory way... I enjoy being a console player.

Oh, btw, I whole-heartedly laughed at you wanting to find players with "credibility and pedigree" in a random public session. I'm sorry bro, but I've never heard of a gamer with both credibility and pedigree.

And you think WE'RE "dimwitted and incapable"? Mate, I'm sorry, but I'm not a career tryhard. Most people on here aren't. They enjoy the game and the content. Most of them also either have jobs and lives, or are kids. I can do pretty much any mission without dying too, just like you, but if you put me 1v1 against a Marksman Dancer, I wouldn't stand a chance. Does that make me dimwitted and incapable? Probably. Oh well.

Anyway, enjoy your crew - I definitely won't be joining. And good luck with the search for likeminded people. I dare say you'll find one eventually. I'll go quietly back to my dude-bro lifestyle now.

No. That honor is shared between the Friday the 13th & Overwatch communities. Their player base are experiencing an increase of high blood pressure, due to the obscene amount of induced salt levels.

It has the best hardware, for sure... the graphics are always superb on most games, and will always be ahead of the consoles...

This depends on how much you spend. The low end computers have worse hardware then consoles. The high end or enthusiast grade computers are better.

I don't know anyone other than me that's willing to spend the amounts of money I do on my gaming PCs. Then I do a lot more than gaming.

I just upgraded my PC

Before I had

ASUS P9X79 LE

Intel i7-4930k

8 x *GB DDR3 1333

Now I have

ASUS TUF X299 Mark 1

Intel i7-7820x

4 x 8GB DDR4 3200

The GPU is a GTX 1080

Soon I will be adding an M2 PCIE SSD raid.

I gave the old parts to a friend.

gaming isn't just about graphics

Correct there is more to gaming than graphics.

the community matters, the games matter, the support for games matters & so does the ease of use on the platform.

I have had better support with every game other than Grand Theft Auto V, and Grand Theft Auto Online.

Same for the comunity.

For me because of my tech background consoles are dumbed down too far, and I have a hard time getting them to work. The menus are sluggish, the most of the settings are in stupid places, and they never have enough storage. A few months ago I wrote a quadratic equation solver in windows batch because I was board. I lost that and the Skyrim mod I was making when the drive I was using for dev work failed, and stupidly I didn't have a recent backup.

My Xbox one with the HDD upgraded to 1TB needs more storage. It's not enough.

Consoles are so superior to PC in almost every other facet other than hardware

Is PC gaming good for everyone? No

Is Console gaming good for everyone? No

It's all preference.

A lot of prejudice in this thread.

the problem isn't the GTAO community.

It's the PC community.

I have this debate often with PC guys and of course they vehemently deny it... but PC is the worst platform to play on.

So, do you play on PC yourself? Do you have experience of playing GTA:O on PC?

I'd still rather have them than the PC player base, because the majority that I ever came across over the years were modders, or just straight up elitist attitude scrubs that weren't actually very good but kept up the whole "console peasant" thing.

Did you meet them in game?

As for gaming communities specifically, I'd still say CoD is worse. Because the CoD player base largely represents fake gamers, players that will only stick to one type of game

A "fake" gamer? Interesting. That's the first time I ever hear this term.

I didn't know that you have to proof to someone that you are a "true" gamer.

So, are the guys that exclusively play the Elder Scrolls series are fake gamers too?

Yes absolutely. Most cancerous playerbase for any online video game ever.

When i go on I generally have my headset muted, most times not even wearing it. If there is a stranger in the room I will typically send them a phone message to get their attention. Makes no difference to me if I can't hear all the rabble going on in the room. That doesn't make the community bad.

This quote in Spoiler has made me lose my faith in console players, i thought they had open mind, but i think playing in a locked machine has made them locked/narrow minded.

OP seems to have failed on making/finding friends in online, where as i found and made so many like minded PvE friends within 1st month of my gtao playtime. not only did we messed around in freeroam taking parts in PvP fights, we also did VIP works like HH and SS, as soon as F&F dropped, some of those friends stopped playing but i kept making new friends that i helped in crate work, once i got bored of crates, i started joining random heists through phone/on call, and one day in July i landed in a Pacific Heist , 2 of those people in that heist have become my best friends forever, i play everything from AM to normal contact missions and heists to races with them.

In January i took a break from online games in general, that lasted till middle of the May, in between that time i kept getting messages from these 2 guys that "Where am i? , Why i'm not playing?" and at the end of the May I resumed and they gave me a lot of flak for taking this long break,

It must be a common experience that you will attract like minded people in real life or in an online video game, i say that is true, so if you're having a hard time finding people like you then it seems you're trying to find them in wrong places.

as for gtao community, yes majority is annoying, but annoying people exist everywhere, in real life and in video games. even here in these forums.

Sounds to me like you need to join a crew and join their TS / Discord.

I'm not sure why people think it's that simple. You have to find a crew somehow. You know... through the game you're PLAYING, probably? Which is why the rarity of voice chat users is part of the problem. And i want to be in my own crew. Crews don't matter that much. The banner isn't important. The players playing together are. Besides, i like my logo too much. It looks badass on a Phoenix.

Alright. So back in March, right before they stopped character transfers, i got the PC version of GTAV and transferred my characters. Seeing them transition over was lovely. The game feels and plays great. And i thought along the way, i'd meet some fellow PC gamers. Some gamers with credibility and some pedigree. And to be blunt; some level of intelligence. I'm at a loss for words at how dimwitted the player base is and how likewise incapable they are. The game - for the most part - seems to be populated by casual, dude-bro type who live off of a diet of Mountain Dew and Cool Ranch Doritos. Or just the typical Call of Duty kiddies that actually aren't gamers at all without a shred of credibility.

You sound like a pretentious douche bag. No wonder no one wants to associate themselves with you.

You sound like you just got obscenely offended by logic and truth you can't handle.

You sound pretty judgmental op, maybe you should try playing with yourself if everyone else sucks so bad.

I never really understood the definition of that word. Judgemental. So i see someone put a metal pot into a microwave and say "sheesh, you're uninformed." or "Are you dumb? What are you doing?". So i've made a valid, 100% rationalized reason for something. So, Judgemental then? Ok. Makes a lot of sense. And the problem isn't that people are bad. It's MOST people are bad. 90% of the people i run into.

Yep, pretty judgemental post borne undoubtedly out of sheer frustration. Your problem now is that you have just shown yourself to be the type of person 99%

of people wouldnt want to associate with because you yourself have shown multiple negative traits. Irony!

Im sure youre a nice guy mate, like a few others have said just focus on finding a group of like minded individuals in a crew and stay chill and be friendly and you will get there. You wont ever get a bunch of randoms to behave the way you want in ANY game. Good luck!

Well... like i said. People don't use the in-game chat. People dont even seem enthusiastic or driven to just use TEXT chat the majority of the time. I should turn to searching random Discord or TS channels and just join and crash the party? See what's up? Sounds like a pretty crude way of finding people. Instead of just... maybe communicating in-game? Like the way i've found other players to play with in... EVERY game i've ever played?

Hahahahaha, you think the GTA online community is the worst ? buddy, dont play Rainbow six Siege or Counter Strike Global Offensive,i can assure, if hell exists, then it is in those games.

Teehee.. I have. Which is why i stopped playing CSGO. But then i realized that it's just a new generation of the same thing. Nothing has actually changed. Every gaming community has a culture of sorts. And an anti-culture. The latter of which in competitive games such as CS are the cut-and-dried "tryhard" as we know them. They were in CS 1.6, CSS and now CSGO. The only difference is that Counter-Strike, for the first time, has a heavy layer of gimmickery to it. It's not populated with 14 years olds who are obsessed with fidget spinners and other nonsense.

Actually he doesn't. He states fact. The game is full of idiots and douche bags. 80% of the time I play with the public nowadays, I end up turning off the game. The stupidity of these people is unbearable. Absolute S H I T of a community.

Yeah. I'm kind of scratching my head wondering where all the normal people are. Lots of players? Absolutely. I've been patiently waiting.. but.. i keep running into the morons.

You sound personally offended. It's pretty easy to tell when you started off with insults, instead of speaking like an adult. Surely you must be 15 and without any gaming credibility. And secondly by trying to make a point out of something i actually never said. You're implying that silent players only play by themselves. Well... no. I never actually said that. I just made a general statement about players for the most part not using mics in lobbies and how it's very strange how people won't communicate. Heh..

Who ever said anything about tryhards? If you actually read what i said, you would've plainly seen that i just want to relax and play the game. Especially considering GTA isn't very competitive. It isn't Quake. It isn't Counter-Strike. It isn't Unreal Tournament. It's not designed to be a pure, competitive game. It's simply a game of fun and mischief. And again, the reason i no longer play on consoles is - once again - because i'm a gamer who actually has credibility. Not a "gamer" like so many others who've opened their first Steam account 3 years ago and have been playing Overwatch and CS:GO (without even knowing about the former games' existence). I won't get into any details because i don't want this turning into a debate about consoles. But yeah... i've been a console gamer and a PC gamer - a gamer, simply - for a very long time. I've owned every console up until the 8th generation of consoles. For good reason.

I'm sure if someone has actively done something for such a length of time and then they've decided to make some changes; there must be a reason. I'm sure if you've loved the Ford Mustang since 1964 and all of the sudden stopped liking it, there's a reason. I'm a creative person. I analyze, i observe. I pay attention. Just like how i've payed attention to your post and the seen the gaping holes exposing your insecurity. Doing missions and not dying... 'just like me'. Making more implications, huh? You understood about 50% of what i said, at best.

I still don't know WTF your definition is exactly of a gamer with "credibility and pedigree" is, but I get the impression that you aren't going to meet many that fit that high of a standard in any community.

I pretty much have to agree GTAO's community is one of the dumbest around. Ignoring things like AFK players in deathmatches, I usually have to deal with children, literal children, who throw temper tantrums after we fail a heist setup exclusively because of their actions.

People are still somehow physically incapable of finishing contact missions without getting mowed down after all this time. It seems the concept of cover eludes them. I'm an above-average driver in this game, yet I had a player on more than one occasion be in awe at my "skills". Faint praise I say.

Yes, it is. You'll have to work hard to find people who respect proper gaming.

What you've got to wade through is the army of permanent prepubescent gamers (aged 5-65) who never made the transition to being a respectable gamer who didnt need a Game Genie to have fun. There is an epidemic of dawldling, anti-competitive, narcissistic manchildren who view online gaming more as an opportunity to engage in sociopathic digital behavior than to have fun trying to win with friends.

It is a reflection of American culture as it is. Almost everyone you're going to meet will be irritating to play with on one level or another, and the spectrum of why ranges from because they're terrible at the game to they're terrible at life.

So go on a bro hunt and find a brohamiltion to bro with and you'll be a lot happier, brobocop.

ON SECOND THOUGHT ---

Call of Duty has to be the worst. I arrived at this conclusion by simple deduction and inference within 10 seconds.

That's like saying Americans are the worst people in the world. It's a big country and there are a lot of weirdos, rednecks and racists in it. But then you look at how stupid that sounds.

I'm an American and I'm not sure that saying that we are the worst people in the world sounds bad. It doesn't sound bad to me. Sounds like something that someone who has experience living in America would say!

And GTAO is the ultimate critique of American culture in the form of a video game. The community reflects the game, which reflects the country. Seems reasonable to me based on my 32 years of experience as an American and my 29 years of experience as a gamer.

"It's much easier to be an asshole than kind" that's a crock of bullsh*t. Lmao! Being nice is just as simple as not being a dick. Period.

According to you, people that don't talk are worse than people that exploit passive, spam the worst vehicles, EWO to protect useless KD etc.

i could really go for some Mountain Dew and cool ranch Doritos right now

I second that! Could do with those as well! Swap the Mountain dew for a beer. On topic: Here we go again.

And the problem isn't that people are bad. It's MOST people are bad. 90% of the people i run into.

Pretty much summarizes your own incompetence.

Some ppl would take a look at the mirror, the day they thought something's wrong with all other ppl except him/her..
