Is using a keyboard on console considered cheating?

Hello all,

It's become very apparent that to be taken seriously in this game you need to be a free aim player. So last night I tried for the first time, started in story mode and went through some of the techniques that I have noticed others doing. It went OK. I was able to hold off LSPD @ 3 * until I got close enough to take one of their cars. It wasn't pretty but it was working.

Then I went online, started the deal breaker mission (something I have never had an issue passing) and got my ass handed to me several times. Long story short I only lasted about 15 minutes before switching it back, because leveling.

So my question is this, is using a setup like the Hori one considered cheating within the community? Like most of us here I have spent and will continue to spend massive amounts of time online playing this wonderful game. The very last thing I want is to be labeled a cheater because of how I control my character.

I have no issues with sticking with a controller only to prevent that. It's just that aiming with a mouse is going to make the learning curve pretty much nonexistent which is why I'm asking about it.

Thank you for your time

Is using a steering wheel in a racing game cheating? Is using a flight stick in an air combat game cheating?

Personally I don't see anything wrong with it, I just really wanted to make sure before I got one

I would say it's cheap in my opinion. This is because it is easier to aim with a mouse, period, and the platform is full of controller users

same, I play on PC with free aim using a PS4 controller and gotta admit I have a huge disadvantage aiming. It's not bad against npcs once you get used to it but against other players using a mouse it's no contest. So imo it would be kinda cheap to use a mouse if the majority use a controller ...but only if you PvP in free aim lobbies just because you have an advantage.

Good news is OP has the integrity to ask if it's right or wrong. Most players use whatever they can to get an advantage. Kinda ruins the point of a game imo.

Since posting this I have been trying to train myself in free aim. Very frustrating to say the least. But I didn't give up, I want to be good at this. Then it finally happened. I passed my first solo mission in free aim. The feeling was indescribable. I'm now committed to playing all of my solo missions 100% in free aim. It's not easy and I'm pretty far from being able to hold my own in an open lobby. With that said it brings the game to an entirely different universe and every time I'm able to complete a mission I get that feeling back.

I'm sticking with the controller, The only thing I need is the time to become good at it.

Thank you for the input

Cool, cheers - but I want eg 1-9 to be my weapons, because I was born in a Quake server, so was wondering if you meant devs were supporting keybinding on console. You can just plug a USB keyboard into an X1 or PS4(?) and use it, after all.

I haven't tried that but from what I understand it can only be used for chat, there isn't away to use it for actual gaming.
