Why Is This Game Going Away From What Made It Work?

Why the hell did they turn GtaO into a crappy call of duty rip off? I know the obvious answer is greed but there's more to it. This feels like a nasty harbinger of things to come. I want no part of endless pvp and forced sales with Ritalin added tweens in full public lobbies. Is it because they lack creative vision without the benz?

I've been a loyal customer for a along time and even played the hell outta IV online but they're kind of pushing me off the train now. The game was not supposed to turn into this.

ATM's - Useless (b/c phone)

Local FlEEca branches - Useless (b/c phone)

Ammunation - Useless (b/c phone)

Cars and SMG's - Useless (b/c explosives)

Taking cover - Useless (b/c explosives)

Flying rocket shooting motorcycles, Military grade vehicles without warranting military resistance via wanted level

Anti aircraft units? Seriously? This GTA doesn't even have a 6th star for military resistance, yet players are allowed to run rampant with military grade vehicles. It's sad. All of these excuses can be made to justify the direction GTA has gone, but it may be for the best at this point that R* creates a vacuum for crime themed games and another developer picks up with a more grounded experience.

20 years of progression and learning to make the perfect crime game, and they basically throw it all down the tubes and make it Twisted Metal where you can get out of your car and shoot an rpg.

It's the money, obviously, but also all this PvP nonsense is both popular among gullible, usually adolescent players and relatively easy and cheap to code and then implement. When you take a look at the Heists update, you have to realize it was a pretty resource consuming project for R* - they've got to not only design new missions, but also create multiple cutscenes and hire voice actors. With Bikers, I/E, Gunrunning and now, I assume, Smuggler's Run DLCs, everything comes down to one introductory cutscene and couple of audio lines which play in randomly generated short scenarios where you obtain and sell something.

That's apparently the most ballanced thing between quality/costs and popularity/profits.

Benz is just a man, and I have a feeling he's greatly overestimated by the fan community, to the point he became a damn messiah or martyr of sorts. The truth is, aside from him, there always was an entire creative team developing R* games. He may have be a very influential person, and his ideas shaped GTA V and Online, but they never were dependent only on him and his creative vision.

Sadly, PvP and all this cookie cutter content appeals to aforementioned gullible masses of easily appleased conformist players. That's the target audience for current DLCs.

I wouldn't call that change "greed" per se - it's business, and it goes where the profit is. If there's someone, anyone to blame, that'd be players who conform to this new status quo. That's nothing new, though - after all, people weren't opposing subscriptions necessary to play online during the 7th gen days, and look what happened - Sony and Nintendo went the same way as Microsoft and now demand extra payments to play with anyone. R* fullfills wishes of those who buy Shark Cards, that's all.

Because in call of duty you get cars, tanks, planes, helicopters, boats, yachts, bunkers, apartments and weed manufacturing.

Because in call of duty you get cars, tanks, planes, helicopters, boats, yachts, bunkers, apartments and bunkers.

None of which has an actual function besides "you need to buy this to be able to buy that."

They should have just made everybody a small time crook trying to make it and all the CEO's and rich peeps should have just been the NPC's you work for. It's stupid that everyone is some hyper rich CEO with 80 sports cars and a yacht and their own small military housed in a nuke bunker.

Gun fights and car chases don't even exist because everyone is allowed virtually unlimited explosives.... that's NOT the fundamental idea of GTA.

What happens when they milk out the DLC vehicles to the point that everyone already has everything possible? Then what do they do?

Hear me out... this is the history of GTAO as I see it.

IMO back in the day R* needed to give us a way to make decent money so along came the promised heists. The heists we're heavily "scripted for failure" but after heists released they realized that no matter how hard they made the heists & setups some players would beat all the heists with ease over and over ...so they needed a new way to make any new lucrative content much harder and much more expensive, so they made new money sinks and pitted players vs. AI plus other players.

That worked well to ensure a good failure rate but some players chose to play in "empty public lobbies", so they added harder AI with each new update, encouraged us to ride the weakest of vehicles & gave us slower delivery vehicles, and eventually smaller time limits. Plus they add more and more tools / weapons to make it easier to destroy sale vehicles.

Still, players found ways to make their money (insert R* sadface) so now R* are simply taking that money away before the most expensive new content starts to drip. Quite pathetic or desperate if you ask me.

So imo yes, it's all about money, it is a real business to them. At this point imo it's about making enticing new money sinks to spend millions on with a big risk that you will get destroyed in public lobbies, so making all your money back plus profits looks like it's not worth the trouble / easier to buy shark cards to get what you want.

BUT! / TLDR The strange part is that it's working somewhat. Players have the choice to avoid destroying cargo and making friends so that they can fully enjoy the new content as it's made specifically for groups. We're all just too busy chasing red icons and killing each other based on the color of our blip to notice, which kinda sadly shows how realistic this game is and how it's history isn't very different from our own.

so deep! i know, i have Kleenex brand tissue if anyone needs it

It is making money hand over fist at this point so it still works. That's the bottom line...

I don't know about you but this is the funnest GTAO has been for me in a while. If you don't like where GTAO is going then you should just stop playing instead of dragging yourself in.

Well you are not the only one that misses a more down to earth game, but youtubers and kids (which seems it's their main audience now even tho they really shouldn't be playing this game), made it so rockstar cathered to them, so the more shiny and explosive the things they add are, then the better for sales.. and everything is reduced to that in the end..

Yes the game is becoming more saints row than true gta.. but you can still look for emptier lobbies without the bs, and or find crews that suit your playstyle, i mean, i got the rocket bike because it was the new thing, but other than when i need it for pvp.. i don't ever use it, in the end you make your game.

You sure about that? This pattern doesn't fit the [bikers -> I/E -> Gunrunning] path

With every new DLC the delivery vehicle becomes better, faster and easier to deal with. And even the weakest wehicles (Post vans) are buffed to not to be destroyed with a single explosion.

Good to hear at least some people don't support the bullsh*t. GTAO became a waste of time and money.

As far as I'm concerned, you can still all the stuff that I think you'd consider 'classic GTA Online'.

Nobody is stopping you doing Contact Missions, making low levels of earnings, pimping out streetcars, delivering cars to Simeon, Survivals (I am partial to a good Survival tbh)

Nobody is forcing you to do anything other than what you enjoy about GTA. You don't have to get a CEO Office. You don't have to get into the MC or Bunker Stock game.

I personally love that GTA is so versatile you can literally do anything you want in it.

And, again, personally, I really enjoy the new DLCs that come out, and I'm very much looking forward to the Smuggler's Run update!

just saying that for the MC update, whether it takes 1 or 10 explosions those Post Op vans aren't making it anywhere if someone wants them destroyed.

Now-a-days it's more about adding more lethal tools/weapons. I didn't really word that properly, i probably should have said it chronologically.

Time is passing by, so consumer's standarts are passing by too.

Game is aimed for a new players, not the old ones who remember this game as "game about thieves".

Assumptions again. I am a day one player and I am fine with the current state.

Now we are just richer, more successful thieves.

This "suck it up or stop playing" conformist mentality is pretty bad. If we don't like certain aspects of the game, we should speak our opiniom about it, not conform to it. That's how you get creative stagnation.

I've been around since the start, and I am glad it has evolved. I wouldn't like to think we would be here in 2017 still scratting around as common, low-life street criminals working for peanuts for rich NPC characters. How crap would that be?

Both my needs and your needs should be addressed, not only yours.

The only people who like the game as it is are griefers, trolls, whales, conformists and people who don't know any better.

You say griefer, I say destroyer. tit for tat. It is what GTA has been for me since IV MP. You can say it is for those who don't know any better. Implying your opinion matters over mine. It does not.

Could you imagine still owning just a Zion, Sultan or Dominator doing 1k repo jobs for Simeon and picking up keys for Gerald 4 years later

I think that's what some players here would love. Seriously.

Dropping coke off for Gerald (in peace of course, no other players allowed) for $2,000 a job. In fact, there was some guy on here the other day trying to sell his idea of a DLC or private lobby, I don't remember which, where all the players were dressed like peasants and only had a handgun to use. The idea was that everybody had to be a bum and it would be great. Basically, he wanted us all to be noobs again.
