New Players Have No Chance Now...

I remember starting my second player about 15 months ago, and it was fairly tough, even with my first account loaded with cash and all toys/etc.With all the new and expensive stuff released since then, new players have no chance of becoming legit Barron's like I am ($150mill legit, 1062 global rank etc. Newer players will have to do a lot of missions etc, and since they pay out so little, they'll never be able to move to CEO/VIP//Stunting/biker/Gunrunning stuff, offices, warehouses, clubhouses and garage. I easily dropped $200m on that stuff.

It feels like rock has forced new players to drop literally $300 of shark cards, while they're on sale. They'd hopefully get $30m and that'd be just a small start ahead... thoughts? I think they really need to put base payouts on missions and races at least 50-75% higher?

To be fair, the game has been out for 4 years. If you wanted to play, you'd be playing already.

New players always have a chance. They just need to buy precious Shark Cards.

To be fair, the game has been out for 4 years. If you wanted to play, you'd be playing already.

Also this argument is invalid. Game should be friendly for newbies at any time. It's nothing like "Meh, we already sold 8 million copies for players that can get 5.00 K/D with just a pistol, that's enough".

Some people still might want to buy this game, but can't do that for some reasons.

There's only a handful of things that a player truly needs to enjoy this game. For example, no one really needs all the aircrafts that the game has to offer (a buzzard is enough) & no one really needs all the business properties (an office + a vehicle cargo warehouse + a bunker is enough) so if someone doesn't have the "I need everything" attitude he'll be fine.

Most people don't need everything and they never claim to do, but they would really like to be able buy the stuff they think is fun and/or useful.

I was late to GTAO, as Ive only been playing it for just over 18 months. I started with nothing but now Im about level 350, have all the money making stuff, heaps of cars and toys and a big useless boat. I have not been modded nor have I bought Shark cards. A new player today will go through exactly what I did 18 months ago and build up their empire. I only just bought my boat last week at the same time I bought the Elegy Retro and I'd wanted both for quite some time.

Obviously a new player wont be able to buy all the cool stuff immediately unless they spend real money but they can still play a good game, have fun and earn their prizes just like most of us have. I dont believe anything has changed to prevent them from doing so.

New players have it easy compared it to the OGs. There are lots of ways to make money & making money is a lot easier today. Remember when we grinded our asses off doing The Los Santos Connection & Rooftop Rumble over & over again? Or the early days of the SecuroServ system? All they have to do now is simply have $50,000 to become a VIP. No 4hour limit or a $1M limit.

If they get tired of Adv modes, they can move to something else & keep enjoying the game. Its a huge world for them, they don't care that its a 4-year old game.

A new players just has more things to buy today than when the game originally came out? There is no concern imo.

I have earned $60 million to date and have -

MC club house, fully upgraded coke and meth businesses.

Two houses and a garage

A Super Yacht

Ton of Pegasus vehicles

2 Supercars

7 Motorbikes

Insurgent

Fully Upgraded bunker with all unlocks and all personal weapons upgraded.

So there is stuff I don't have. CEO Business, Apartments with massive garage etc. But you get my point. I have earned $60m and have more stuff than I can use.

One of the reasons why I do my best to unlock the stuff asap so that my friends who have little chance of getting them can try them out.

You're kidding, right? New players have it easier than ever. I played at the original launch on the 360 and then on the second launch on the Xbox One. I remember grinding out contact missions for hours hoping to get enough to buy a damn house. Every day was a struggle. Now? Just load up a double money mission and you'll have a super car before you know it. I started fresh on the PS4 back in July. Had double money on Dawn Raid right at the start, and then double money on Overtime Rumble. Made $10,000,000 without even breaking a sweat.

It's easier than ever.

Oh, please. Getting money as a new player was never easier as it is now, and last two updates successfully killed any reason to actually play the game, since you can skip the poor newbie stage almost entirely. If I remember, VIP status is now available to anyone who has 50k$ on their Maze Bank account, instead of 1 million. That means you can complete the tutorial, sell a car at LSC, do 4-5 contact missions and/or flying school lessons, and begin grinding Sightseer and Headhunter (although the latter may be somewhat difficult without a weapon and proper vehicle).

Optionally you can just play heists, which are way more entertaining than repetitive COE/Biker business jobs.

Are things in GTA Online overpriced these days? Yes, you bet. But you don't need any of them to become rich in the first place. Let's be honest - if you want to make money, heists and I/E warehouse are your ultimate goal for the moment. All these bunkers, biker businesses, freemode events and what not are profitable, but not necessary for you to be successful. They're all additions, and while it's completely subjective to crave them or not, they don't have any impact on new players who just start their GTA Online adventure.

I'm like the huntsman. I've only been playing a couple months but am already at the property cap and have so much stuff that it doesn't get used.

And I'm a super casual player. I have a kid who uses my account but with the amount of ammo he burns thru he only just barely turns a profit for me.

Anyway, I have to say I disagree with the OP.

2017 new players still have an advantage over 2013 new players. At least now you can get all sorts of weapons regardless of rank. No shark card could help you in 2013.

New players to a an almost 4 year old game should not have it easy in any way shape or form.

You join late, that's your problem.

the mk2 weapons and reduced health really would make pvp impossible. isn't lvl 1 health like halved?

... That costs 195.000 and is called Carbonizzare, it's basically a Kuruma against NPCs, but it's kind of open secret even on the forums. And if this newbie can find a returning player friend who can link his account for 10 mins, he's immediately driving off in his brand new Duke o Death.

As a day one player I can't stand this BS how hard it is for a newbies, it's not even remotely true. Yes, there are more expensive toys to buy in comparison with 2013 era, but it's easier:

  1. VIP is limited to 50k now;
  2. More variety in contact missions with better average payouts. Yes, RR and TLSC were more profitable back in the days, but now you're talking about average 13-15 payouts for basically any missions you're doing. Defender, for example, is a good one because Buzzards are provided and it's zero expenses to complete it;
  3. For a 3 mil you can easily purchase a money printing machine aka IE business, that will net you 80k profits for 10-15 mins work. That's a solid buy in for a newbie, but the reward is so lucrative that even vets are still relying on these payouts;
  4. Non level restricted guns are available for anyone, some of them are good enough to be used by vets. Nowadays, for a solid 100k you can equip a rank 5 with assault rifle, solid full auto pistol and a pretty neat shotgun. Maybe even throw in that Marksman rifle too, not sure about the price. Point is, back in 2013 there was no options like that;
  5. Bodyguard jobs. Joining a friendly crew doing ceo stuff may net a newcomer 5,000 every 15 mins and 200RP per minute.

getting late to the party is never fun...

gtao is not a very welcoming game in general, personally i dont recommend anyone to try join the game this late, it simply think it wont be a enjoyable experince unless you already have people that can help you.

Not far off. So at ranks 1 to 20, your GTA Online character's maximum health value is 238, with the Super Light Armour adding 10 armour (total 238 + 10).

At a rank of 100 or more, it's 328 health and an extra 50 for armour (from the Super Heavy Armour).

16x Rooftop rumble playlists, the struggle was real...

Now, I'm pretty confident that anyone that just got the game will probably get a sharkcard bundled with it, and they can set things up with that money, an office and a kuruma.

This is not entirely true, if you are a truly solo player, who won't try to team up for a heist you might have an issue. Me and a friend of my helped two people to get CEO+I/E garage and a biker cocaine business in a week. All we did was the All in order challange and the Loyality bonus which gave them 2 mils + the money from doing the heists. Although they did 2x money adversary modes too, it was fun for them. You can even get your first high end apartment on day one via the flight school. If you don't buy a flashy car with your first 1-2 mil you'll be able to make money easily in the future.

Totally forgot about it, but you're absolutely right! Some bundles are cheap and will cover initial IE setting up costs. Damn, that's even easier. Back in 2013 even cards were unavailable!

Couldn't be more wrong man. I started a new player and just need a couple of hours before I could buy a special carbine, armored car and a heist apartment. The only issue I had was getting kicked from missions as a rank 1 but after that it was smooth sailing. You can even start any mission now without the rank requirement.

Don't forget Day 1 Players also had to struggle to make money, such as selling vehicles of the streets, robbing Liquor stores/vans, and doing missions. Now New Players can do Free-roam Challenges, Heists, Join CEOs, and so on.

New Players will have chance to keep up, believe me I have seen Level 5s with Hydras. At the end of the day, You can choose to grind or take a short cut and buy a shark card. The option is yours. Like shmok mentioned above, you don't need everything, But one thing is for certain you don't get to a (legit) level 300 over night.

I put my steam account level 215, yacht owning, entrepreneur on the shelf and started a new rockstar, non steam account. Yes, another full retail pc copy to add to the PS3 and PS4 copies so I would never buy a shark card. I'm up to level 121 and have a high end apartment. I wasn't aware of the new 50k vip thing so I grinded contacts, built up a mil while purchasing only a Buccaneer. I'm closing in on 5 mil which is what I want my bank to be because why chance holding more than that with the shaky things that always seem to happen. I got the office when it was 50% off and bought the Vagner when it was on sale couple weeks ago. Point is that it's no harder, or easier for me than it was 4 years ago to make the money I need to buy the things I want. Sell a baller, gang peyote, or felon gt, then sightseer, contact, sightseer, contact, contact, contact, sightseer, ect. If I can do Pier Pressure, Gassed Up, Death Metal, Deal Breaker, and Violent Duct without an armored car then I believe most here could as well so don't think you need it. I lived in that Kuruma on my steam account and will get it eventually because it will net me another 500 on contacts by saving on armor purchasing. I'm not sure the ammo price difference between machine pistol and special carbine but it might save money there too so the Kuruma does add money per mission which makes it a logical choice if you grind contacts like me. I just have to find someone to do Fleeca with because I won't purchase a car for 698,000 that I can buy for 525,000 by doing a couple setups and easy finale.

Just started in July after gunrunning came out and am at 114 level. Career earnings around $29 mi and spent 23 mil with 6 mil in the bank. Out of the 29 mil, about 4 mil was shark cards when i started. Foolishly spent over a mil on a Elegy custom fully upgraded as my first purchase (love the car, hate the fact it was my first purchase). Luckily my second major purchase was a CEO office. I admittely have more free time than I'd like right now so that helped.

I was getting killed like crazy in free roam as a low level newb. My first 2 weeks in the game were miserable. Started grinding out double payout adversary modes to get comfortable with the game. I checked my stats and i made about $6 mil from grinding these out. Bought 2 small crate warehouses, a buzzard, and grinded out crates after joining an MC/CEO friendly crew. Crates was slow money to me but leveled me up quickly. Made about $4 mil from crates.

Bought an IE warehouse and some other upgrades (Tempesta, CEO office quarters which i love) and started grinding cars. Love it and it's great money for a newbie. Made $18 mil and counting in 2 weeks and things took off. Got an XA21 and just bought a bunker with staff and equipment upgrades. Have everything set to research to take advantage of the speed boost (probably won't sell guns when there's double IE) and once the bonuses are gone i'll alternate single car gunrunning sales with IE for my income and get to enjoy the game more at a less grindy pace.

At the end of the day, it was hard but not impossible. I'd definitely encourage new players to dive in. If you must buy a shark card or two, use them wisely. the tempation to buy stupid things like a million dollar apartment or nice cars is there, but resist it. Focus on money making. Get a CEO office or an Armored Kuruma which will pay for itself and then some. Be smart and do your research, and most importantly, join a money making crew

Much as in the rea world there is a hierarchy, now in gta online there's a small portion one. Newer players are needed in order for the hierarchy to be complete. They aren't nessasarily meant to be at the top, nor the middle.
