This game is zoo tycoon cashing in on a Jurassic Park license for the new film coming out.  Ahwell... I'll still play it

I preordered it (first time I ever preordered anything),and I'm picking it up tomorrow.Since I loved JPOG,I can't wait to play this game too.

A few disappointing things about this game:

 

Most of the buildable space in this game will be used to place down power stations and hatcheries with actual dinosaur enclosures seemingly taking a back seat priority wise, actually placing buildings sometimes seems frustrating due to space and terrain constraints. Pretty much every YouTuber ends up making some kind of industrial estate/site looking island rather than a zoo. NOT enough space.

 

Raptors don't hunt or attack in packs. If 1 dinosaur fights a raptor pack, he'll take them on individually, one after the other. The fighting system itself is strictly 1 vs 1. 

 

Fighting animations are cloned across sub species. Which sometimes results in 2 dinosaurs mirroring animations exactly while squaring off/attacking.

 

Dinosaurs lack ordinary behaviours such as sleeping and from what I've seen their reactions in quite a few scenarios are limited. Herbivores literally walk through each other without any acknowledgment in populated enclosures and socializing between the same species only ever occurs in awkward triangles. Proper large scale herding like we saw in 1 of the trailers, doesn't exist.

Dinosaurs comfort stats are based on a radius around the dinosaur at that time and not the entire enclosure as a whole, which can lead to some ridiculous incidents of a dinosaur being perfectly happy with his enclosure, walking too far off to the edge and suddenly demanding more trees be put in his enclosure, causing him to try and break out suddenly.

 

No decorations for the park and no rocks!!

 

Still, the game looks good to me. There was a lot more negatives to pick out but these are the ones that stuck with me the most. The devs answered questions in a sub reddit basically, they did say they will continue to work on behaviours/features after launch and continue to check player feedback. I think the game could have done with an extra 6 months or so in development.

Sitting on 77 on Opencritic as of now. IGN's review has been the only overwhelming negative one.

 

I'm a huge Jurassic fanboy but might have to wait for a price drop, as I already have games to finish. I don't think it will take too long for this to come down either.

it's a shame really, was full on looking forward to playing this game today but the negative things i've heard have 100% put me off. Hopefully updates resolve the strange design choices and straight up nonsense because i really wanna build a dinosaur zoo.

It's not worth the price IMO, but it is fun enough.

 

I was going to hold off, but then I read a bunch of Xbox user reviews and felt a bit better.  I still would have held off but since it is by Frontier I felt at the very least I'll have a fun park building simulator.

Currently about 15 hours into the game. I am enjoying it but it just feels as if they could have done so much more. The islands are small, the building is awkward at times (terrain obstruction,) I don't know how much replayability there will be after I complete the current islands.

Still, I think it is a good game and with the right post launch support it could be a great one. Hopefully Frontier listen to what the fans are saying because they could turn this into an amazing game.

Yeah think i read how they only had 1 year to work on this game and had to rush it out to release it alongside Fallen Kingdom. Very annoying, i couldn't give a sh*t if the game releases same time as the film, i'd rather a better game.

After playing this game for a while,I gotta say I really like it.It really is a 2010s equivalent of JPOG,I'm enjoying it just as much.I just wish I bought a deluxe version,I really wanna get Styracosaurus, Suchomimus and other dinos (fortunately I can still download the deluxe pack,I'll do it later).

Think i heard that the deluxe dinosaurs will be included in a free update for every one later down the line, so you don't have to buy deluxe edition if you can be patient.
