BooTx
Hey there. I'm trying to get this running on Windows 10 (Haswell i5, GTX 970), and I am having a never ending stream of issues. I was able to solve most of them, but one remains. Namely, the game crashes every time I try to use either SilentPatch or GTA3.WidescreenFix. Of course these are the only two mods I'm interested in. If I have the SilentPatch ASI file in the game directory, it crashes before getting to the main menu (There was a problem with GTA3.exe...). If I delete it and have only the WidescreenFix ASI in the game directory, the game runs beautifully, but then crashes on exit. And it's not even a clean crash which wouldn't be an issue; it's an "Alt-Tab to get to the unhandled exception error message to click off on it, and then wait for two more error messages to come up so you can click off on those" type of crash. If I delete both mods, the game runs fine and exits fine. To say that I've tried reinstalling would be an understatement. I've tried deleting the .set file to no avail. I've tried running in all manner of compatibility modes (with and without administrator privileges!) without success. I have tried 1.0 and 1.1, with and without No-CD patches. At this point I honestly don't even care about using SilentPatch, but it would be really nice to have proper widescreen support. Words? edit - Also, I'm pretty sure 11.5 years is the record for forum lurking. Edited August 17, 2017 by BooTx
guard3
v1.0 is the most supported version, so you'd better stick with that. Have you tried putting them in mss folder? Or using the "scripts" folder that comes with widescreen fix as part of Ultimate Asi Loader? How about injecting the widescreen fix .asi to the exe with the tool made by The_GTA? LaDiDa
No-CD 1.0 (US) exe should work 100% with both mods without crashing on either entering nor exiting the game.

Between using 1.0 No-CD, the ASI injector, and nVIDIA Inspector I was able to get this thing running perfectly. No crashes, perfect widescreen, no disappearing menu text, and it even seems to run with the frame limiter off without any issues (as long as I use the limiter in Inspector instead). At least none of the issues that I remember, like the car not working properly (can't powerslide or go in reverse, car stopping quickly if I take foot off gas). It hasn't played this nicely since I ran it on my old 1 GHz T-Bird, Geforce 3 Ti200 system back in the day. I was still not able to get SilentPatch to work for whatever reason, but I'm going to go ahead and abandon that for now. Thank you very much for the tips guys. guard3
