[GTAO] The "Mistake I Made" Thread

After a few beers i purchased the valkyrie thinking it was the savage, i hadn't done the heists so was none of the wiser what it was called

Learned very quickly what a heap of sh*t it was! Flew it straight into a building and never flown it since :r*: take it back il pay you

I still wish R* would let us sell Pegasus stuff. We could use that money to put toward new content and stay loyal to the game forever!

And yes, before people cry, "But, fw3, people used glitched money to buy Pegasus stuff!" I'm well aware.

But it doesn't matter at this point. If you bought a Golden Lux for $10M, then let us sell it off for $100 bucks! What does R* have to lose?

Anyhow, back on topic, another mistake I constantly make is waiting for my vehicle to come - without a weapon in hand.

It leaves me wide open for a mugger attack! See, if you're empty handed, you can't punch a mugger - he mugs you.

However, if you have a weapon in hand, you can actually whack him with the weapon before he mugs you.

And besides, even if he does hit you and you fall, it takes 2.6 hours for your lazy butt to get up off the ground and go after him.

If you don't have a weapon, you have to get one, arm it, and then take aim... and by that point, he's in Liberty City spending your $180 taking Roman bowling.

Option: Just always carry a weapon when you're on foot. The benefits of having having one far outweigh the reasons why not.

What day one or year one hasn't got dodgy funds lol id pay for a pegasus scrap fee gladly just to shift some junk

That stupid tugboat because of how ground breaking it was. The yacht should have been able to do this.

You can walk around a huge map (tugboat) while the other player can drive it at the same time.

Played 30 mins with it and never played with it again.

Prison break Casco grab. Idea is to parachute down from the crane, kill 2 and blow lock without taking on the whole security team. For some reason, I open the chute in time about 20% of time which makes me that bad random no one wants around. I've since learned to prefer taking on the whole security team.

I was doing the vehicle sourcing which the little seoul gang part takes place

After clearing the mobs, i am lazy to call my cargobob so i drove the car back to the warehouse, npcs spawns

I was using the explodsive sniper, hiding behind 1 of the gang's kuruma, never noticed one the the kuruma come too close to my vehicle cargo

BOOM!!! 1 shot, thats it, 28k damage to it

Welp

6 or 7 of us in a lobby, doing IE business, leaving each other alone.

Nice peaceful lobby, all friendly.

I'm running Sightseer in my Buzzard between sales and see a dude go past in a Bob with IE vehicle atached. Two buzzards on his tail coming past Fort Zancudo. They're really close.

Figured I would help a brother out and take the buzzards out.

1 homing missile takes care of one buzzard. He goes down as they go past me. Circle round and get in behind the second Buzzard.

Missile lock.

Easy kill right?

Nope.

Missile lock switches at the last second and flicks to the Bob. Too late. I've hit Fire.

My heart leaps as I see the dude in his Bob go down with his newly acquired IE vehicle in a ball of flames.

Dude was chill about it though. I'd been policing the lobby for a couple hours so he wasn't too pissed off.

I felt so bad though.

But you can be a Somalian pirate in a tug :)

Was doing a supply mission in humane labs, noticed another player outside up to no good. Upon entering my buzzad I heard a few beeps and it was all over. Always check for stickies!

  • 2 weeks later...

Back in 2013, I had 1 million dollars left in my account, already owning everything i wanted. I bought a Titan, spending every dime I had. That's when I went bankrupt

I own a Zancudo hangar, and went inside the control tower to see if there was a soda machine. Four star wanted level that would never let up.

There is also a small concrete building beside one of the hangars at Fort Zancudo, with a grenade at the bottom. Walking into this also triggered a four star wanted level. But I only had to kill one NPC Soldier and make a break for it. The wanted level disappeared surprisingly quick.

My two biggest noob mistakes and complete waste of time were.

#1. Learning about the valuable "rare" spawning cars and flipping them as my main source of income. Although it's fun, making $13k every 45 minutes is not the business.

#2. Setting a goal of owning all three properties at tinsel towers (at the time not fully understanding that these can only be used for personal vehicles). Ended up selling 2 of them when I got my CEO office. To think of how hard I worked for them and how much money I lost only to see them go away in a few weeks... feels bad man.

On PC, in the plane, hitting F instead of the D key which aids in turning. The F key is the bail key, which isn't the best option when you're the pilot in prison break plane setup. Those keys so close together. I purposely maxed out every stat, except flying to avoid these situations, but someone seems to always want to make me the pilot. This issue did help me see so few seem to have the patience I hoped they would have.

Two mistakes I always seem to make is:

1. During the MC supply run where you have to chase down the armored trucks and blow open the back doors to get the supplies. I shoot the driver from my vehicle, get out and throw a sticky bomb, blowing up the back doors ... and also my vehicle I parked right beside it :/

2. Same mission as #1 but I remember to park away from the truck so I don't blow up my vehicle. But forget to not stand in the middle of the road and get run over repeatedly by the NPC's freaking out over the explosion.

Mistake: Shot the tail rotor off a helicopter. Assume is's going to drop down like the rest.

Option: Keep an eye on the dropping wirlybird.

BFCOBYp.gif

Mistake: Got blasted by an NPC in a tank.

Option: Look around more often.

BVxhufc.gif

Mistake: Exploding car sent my delivery trailer rolling into the next zip code.

Option: Don't hip-check cars in tunnels.

I could probably fill this thread of lessons I still haven't learned.

So the other day i was doing an Air Freight steal mission, i get the goods, it's time to land the plane at LSIA. i was using the loaned plane from the update and you know those things don't like to slow down good, so i hit the runway and it bounces and i'm like "okay, the plane's going to slow down between now and when i get it to my hangar enough that it wont be a problem."

It absolutely didnt slow down enough. I crashed the plane into the hangar and destroyed the cargo.

No Use For A Name

I took a different approach to Smuggler's Run. I read the announcement on Facebook of all places and spent the week grinding cars. I read nothing on here or anywhere else about it. Maybe it's because I'm getting old and unhip; maybe it's because I'm burnt out on having every movie and tv show spoiled by constant social media chatter. Whatever the reason, Tuesday morning was awesome. A whole new update that I knew nothing about, and a chance to be genuinely surprised? Count me in.

...my plan immediately backfired. With good surprise comes bad. Ended up purchasing a few planes I didn't like that had horrible reviews, immediately sold them. Whoops. But the worst was the hangar disaster. I initially bought the expensive LSIA one...and got bored 20 minutes later. Too far south, not an ideal location for anything really, there are already garage spawn points nearby, and the area itself is a colossal bore. So I decided to move...after buying everything, including the $1.2m workshop. Bought a Zancudo location, rebought everything, then loaded a bowl and went outside to celebrate my new home.

...my plan immediately backfired. Again. Read up here on the best hangars and saw that the one by the ocean was the consensus choice. f*ck, I bought the wrong one again. Back inside to buy another hangar, and even though I had enough cash if including the trade-in value, Rockstar said I was short and offered to sell me a Shark Card. f*ck that. I was stoned and impatient, so I started calling for a car to sell. Tried the T20, the sell offer was under $1 million. WTF? I guess I bought it on discount. After careful consideration, I decided to sell the Osiris instead....something I said I'd never do again, but again impatience isn't a virtue. After repurchasing everything AGAIN, I was finally content...and kinda rich still! I again retreated to the patio to finish my bowl and thought it'd be a good idea to buy that T20 I'd just sold. So I did...waited for the email from Legendary, went down to my garage to repaint it...why the hell are there two T20's sitting here? F*CK ME SIDEWAYS I BOUGHT THE WRONG CAR.

Went from over $6 million to under $600k in 15 minutes with absolutely nothing to show for it. Less than nothing, actually, because I now have to buy another $2 million car. Oops

Mistake: Not looking at approaching traffic when trying to steal an attacker's vehicle.

Lesson: Look both ways before crossing a road.
