[GTAO] The "Mistake I Made" Thread

Unlike a "Share Your Stories" or B&M thread, this thread serves three important purposes:

1. To share anecdotes, outlining particular mistakes you've made and how & why you made them (remembering the five B's of anecdotes and public restrooms: Be brief, brother, be brief!)

2. To offer alternatives options you should have or could have considered to avoid making that mistake, making it again, or helping keep others from making it.
3. To entertain and delight the GTAO community with your humble lesson, incredible insight, and unparalleled wisdom.

FOR ME, the two most common mistakes I make, in just about every session is not giving myself proper clearance for certain things.

• For example, I launch my Oppressor on a street to go after a player making a delivery, not thinking about the hanging street light I inevitably bash into, sending my bike two miles away, knocking me backwards 500 yards, and allowing the other player to slip away.
Option: get clear of anything that might knock me off, like signs, street lights, pylons, or tree branches.

• Another is lifting off in a helicopter, not realizing that behind me, out of my sight, is a building, which I inevitably whack up against, causing my craft to smoke and choke and die before I even start.
Option: don't rush and take a second to look around before taking off. it would save time and keep me from swearing at my television set.

• Lastly, that dogforsaken ramp with the Issi on it. I hit that stupid Issi every. single. time.
Option: either just stay away from that idiotic ramp or, if you gotta, keep tight to the left. It actually helps! lol!

Well my first mistake was when I first started out I was way too nice and got killed alot because of it.

 

I also have the issue with my oppressor. I always hit bridges, street lamps, walls, signs anything that can be hit I will be smashing into it. I also hit stuff with my heli while taking off, biggest offender for is the street lamp.

I bought a CEO warehouse just before I/E. Granted, it was a small one, but still redundant after the update went live.

I can't think of any major mistakes i made in this game. But only two comes in mind...
My mistake was asking my friend to buy a gold Luxor. And buying lowrider Buccaneer myself.

I already got more than 5 mistake ready in my mind, but i'm going to post them separately to keep things interesting.

First mistake i make regularly and is kind of a bad habit which i can't seem to get rid of, unnecessary wheelies, doesn't matter what i'm doing, if i'm riding a 2-wheeler, i pop up a wheelie and usually run into traffic or over-rev and fall on my @$$.

Option: when doing something important, never use a 2-wheeler or a quad.

These days, my general mistake is logging in and expecting to enjoy the game.

 

After I log in, I have this urge to leave. Another PVP tryhard, another generic bland supercar or adversary mode? No thanks. That's even with a social group that's in GTA. I hang out with them for a little bit, but after maybe 20 minutes I dump out while staying in the party.

 

Then I load up Just Cause 3.

Option: Remove mines, you have mortars, they are too dangerous on a car that explodes with just 1 mine.

I often make the mistake of not slowing down enough when attempting to land aerocraft. I have made some improvements though; I'm pretty sure everyone used to just parachute out ahead of time because it weren't worth the risk! I can be a scary pilot though; I've always felt more comfortable on the roads! I admit that I sometimes get impatient and that can easily lead to a downfall within everything in the game (or life). Like so many others, I have also made the mistake of pissing away ridiculous amounts of money on trying out experimental paint jobs and buying Pegasus vehicles that I've never once used.

I often make the mistake of not slowing down enough when attempting to land aerocraft. I have made some improvements though; I'm pretty sure everyone used to just parachute out ahead of time because it weren't worth the risk! I can be a scary pilot though; I've always felt more comfortable on the roads! I admit that I sometimes get impatient and that can easily lead to a downfall within everything in the game (or life).

It's probably best to be an amateur pilot anyway! There's quite a lot of pressure on designated pilots, especially on CMM runs.

 

My major mistake would have to be the fact I was too poor to buy insurance for a Space Docker PV in the early days of GTAO. It got hectic if you drove one of those around in free roam!

 

Thankfully I scraped up the 125k to purchase insurance after my friend helped me dupe another one.

 

E: Also, another major mistake I made was putting my Entity XF in slot 1 back in 2013. Damn you, slot 1 car deletion glitch.

That made me laugh, only because I can both see it and have done it myself! LOL!!!

 

Another mistake I often make is expecting that a low level who just killed me to be an easy "revenge kill."

Then, when l see (through scope) that he/she is strafe n' roll dancing even before I'm even close to them, I sigh deeply and go in for a time.

 

Option: As soon as I see they're fluent in the art of the strafe n' roll, I should just turn and go the other way. It's just not worth the time or the ammo, anymore. lol!

Another option: Inch as close as you can get, then switch to a fast firing machine gun. Works every time (And it looks majestic)

 

 

As for the biggest mistake:

 

Coming in too fast with the Volatus, so it ends up doing some dope flips..then boooom. Bye helicopter.

 

Option: I could just slow down as much as possible to land...which probably would end up with the same boooom, since it's a Volatus..

They forced me to buy sharkcards with hypno rays emited through public lobbies.

 

Now divorced and haven't seen my kids since October of 2013.

My second biggest mistake was buying the Swift Deluxe as soon as it came out because EXCITEMENT.

 

My third biggest mistake was grinding enough sales to afford the Deluxe Duo.

 

My fourth biggest mistake was buying the most expensive yacht with all the trimmings.

 

My fifth biggest mistake was buying all 5 businesses, and the most expensive ones.

 

My sixth biggest mistake was buying the most expensive cargo warehouses.

 

My mistake was spending a lot of money on crap I don't need or particularly even want anymore.

Mistake: Accidentally having the wrong weapon equipped in the corresponding slot.

 

Option: I now find a safe spot and equip my go-to's before engaging in any sort of combat.
